And was dealt with.
I can't see the BBC allowing Neil the leeway to air his personal views without either their tacit approval or subsequent disciplinary actions being instigated as for previous occasions where employees have misused/exploited their priviledged position in similar ways such as Clarkson, Kenny Everett, et al. In such circumstances retribution from the 'Fith Floor' has always been very swift.

although Clarkson was sanctioned when he was deemed to be racist/offensive etc, not when he simply expressed a personal opinion about a new BMW or wind power or etc etc etc
my point is that I suspect Andrew Neil was operating under different rules than say Nick Robinson, the political editor of the BBC - or any BBC news journalist
and as has been said, he did not really say anything "outrageous" he did not imo misused/exploit his position - unless you are a Jihadist
not "you" btw

yes, all points noted

Clarkson was let off being officially disciplined because the racial content wasn't actually broadcast on TV. Surely racism (as expressed by Clarkson) is a personal point of view, although it could also be a general cultural dogma.
Not being privy to BBC contractual negotiations, the possibility that Neil enjoys a certain leeway to express things that his peer journalists do not isn't something I can evaluate, but I suspect that to allow him extra editorial slack in this way would be a dangerous thing in setting precendents that other journos might want to exercise in the future.

and agree - we are guessing really, we don't know what the contracts say for either contactors or 3rd party program makers
anyway it was well said and had obviously hit something in the population as it needed to be said
(and I am not one of Andrew Neil's biggest fans)
