Arguing with myself...

Thats some commute buddy. I work 4 miles from work and use my push bike daily to avoid running my miles up lol

The decision should be made on budget, intended use and miles to be covered.
If you like to modify and want the car as a toy/hobby and you don't do a lot of miles then STI.
If you're after a daily driver that has a decent turn of speed and is still reasonably comfortable to be in, do a reasonable amount of miles then the WRX is the one to go for.
Real world performance wise there really isn't anything in it between a lightly modded WRX and STI, either with the right mods can show the other with the wrong mods a clean pair of heels as there are many ways to skin a cat.
Wrx has longer ratios, softer suspension, smaller faster spooling turbo, so IMO is more suited as a daily.
STI is better suited to being driven hard, with shorter ratios, firm suspension, bigger brakes, stronger engine and box.
STI will cost in the region of £3/4k more than a WRX, so you make your choice and pay your money.
If mpg is of any concern to you the WRX will do 36mpg @70/80mph and average around 28mpg around town.
STI does roughly 8mpg less in both.

Having said that, the all weather, all road ability of the Impreza paid dividends and it's a testament to their design & build quality that I was able to do it without incident in a £2k, 120k (at the beginning) car.
If you are going to be doing regular motorway miles in an Impreza, I can't stress enough the need for a very good stereo install.....

Bristol to Redcar, Tuesday to Thursday every week for a year.....had I known it was going to be a year, I would have got a Lexus LS400 and LPG'd it!
