Different cars for different folks, its easy for spudgun to say the evo is best, he drives a Seat every day
Scooby is a compromised performance car you can use daily.
Evo is a full on performance car.
I'd rather have neither

jon you cheeky s0d
actually, i leave the seat at home these days, the evo is just too much fun to leave at home
you got a bl00dy skyline yet or what? there is quite a few for sale on the gtr board, surely there must be a good 'un there?
my evo will be 380+bhp soon....i will be happy to give you a demo, so it will give you summat to think about should the skyline thing not work out

So wot kind of engineer are you? a ******* Radio Rentals one by the sound of it . Can you please define for those of us less able how you came to deduce that the Impreza has a "better" chassis. I would also like an explanation of how the rotational forces of the engine fail to upset the balance.....balance of what and how? I welcome rational and reasonable argument especially from fellow engineers but please be a little more concise and considered before writing cheques with your mouth that your **** can't cash.
Carl, Skyline are too heavy for what exactly? I know you've probably read that somewhere in your collection of EVO and max power mags but unless you know why it is or for what purpose it is too heavy please be quite. And in any case shouldn't you all be selling your Imprezas and buying a Mini Cooper as it shat on both EVO and Scooby in EVO this month did't it? mines already on order
As for engine note...........I prefer my R34's straight six scream to my Scoobies flat four growl in the same way that I much prefer the exhaust note of a screaming V4 at 15 thousand rpm to a V twin grumble on a bike.

I must admit I love the Scooby sound and thought I'd miss it but the straight six in my skyline sounds just as good (though totally different) if not better when I am 'giving it some'.
I still prefer the sound of a V-Twin over a V4 though Steve.
I dunno where you got the 'too heavy' statement from either. They are only about 150Kg heavier than a bugeye WRX.

That is a very good question and i must confess when I heard the old legacys in the rallys I thought god I have got to get one, because they sound awesome but i think people would buy a subaru because of the simple fact that these cars are great value for money.

Don't get me rong i love V-twins too it's just that at the superbikes when the Dukes are getting twatted they sound a little like a tractor whereas when the 750's come razzing past they wail like a screaming banshee
That does it for me in the old trouser tent deppo.

Thats a lot to give away standard R34 is 180bhp/ton and an MY00 STI is 220bhp/ton a MY00 UK is 177bhp/ton. Okay I hear you cry you can get more horses out of skyline but to get a PTW of 220bhp/ton (just to have the same as a standard STI) you are going to need 336 bhp just to draw even. If say you mod you scoob to 330bhp (giving 262bhp/ton) the skyline is going to need 400bhp to have the same PTW of 262bhp/ton.
Cheers

De-restricted R34s run at least 400bhp, many reaching 500bhp and some as much as 600bhp. (and there's always nutters with 700-800bhp). Who the hell has a std. Skyline ? And you're reading the wrong magazines if you believe Nissans disclosed 276bhp. (To keep within the self-imposed 280bhp limit)
Can't see a Scoob reaching those figures, so I figure the extra 300kg is worth it
And the Scooby doesn't sound that great.. sure.. compared to your run-of-the-mill Fiestas, but try a Skyline with SuperDrager exhaust for a wonderful exhaust note.
Skyline owners don't aspire to be Scooby owners.

It typical Scoobynet style, this has once again turned into a 'my car is better than yours' argument, this wasn't what we were discussing. As anybody who has owned both knows the answer.
I (we) are just trying to clear up some incorrect facts posted about Skylines:
Statements such as "I personally dislike the Skylines looks until u hit v-spec models"
WTF? The V-Spec models look near identical to the non-vspec models, and any differences are very minor (see www.gtr.co.uk).
I am guessing that the people who make comments such as 'skylines are too heavy' have never actually driven one. Do they mean too heavy from a handling point of view or from a power to weight point of view?
As David says, standard GTRs all tend to make around 315/325bhp as standard on the RR, add a filter and exhaust and you are straight away up to about 360bhp, increase the boost a bit and you are running a *reliable* ~400bhp with minimal mods. This is what I class as a standard Skyline, as Nissan intended, they were just detuned for the stupid Jap 280bhp limit thing.
And if you haven't heard a modified GTR on full chat, then I suggest you do. They sound absolutely awesome.

Hear Hear............Browny
BTW Sti owners may well like to take on board the very high transmission losses through the permanent AWD setup of the scoob as well before coming to their very primitive conclusion that you just take into consideration mass and BHP to figure out which car is faster.

Have to say, at ful chat the skyline is one of THE nicest sounding cars there is.
Only noise I prefer is the 355.
The skyline in terms of power is a different kettle of fish, but remember one thing, despite the great electronic handling of the skyline, and its mechanical grip, it still has the extra 300kg to slow down, and to shift around corners.
Regardless of acceleration it can never be as nimble an everyday supercar as an impreza or an evo. You can go further down to exiges (eh david?) or superlights, but I am thinking in terms of creature comforts still.
Talking of creature comforts, one thing which seriously dissapointed me about the skyline was the lack of space.
The car is enormous and I was very aware of its bulk whilst driving it, but more importantly it has a tiny cabin for such a big car, and the boot is useless since the fuel tank is behind the rear seats. You would assume the boot is deep, but is isnt as the underside of the boot is concerned with diffusers for aerodynamic grip.
gish I am getting old. I still love the car!
for me though, up to 100/130mph speed yo get to on track, I would rather have a 350/400bhp impreza or evo.
when driving the skyline it doesnt shrink around you. I have driven biggers cars extensively, but for some reason the skyline doesnt hide its bulk so well.

I do like the skyline and think it a wonderful machine but where can I get one for 25K "brand new" isnt a UK R34 50+K . Can you lop off 4 feet at the back and a foot off the width so it will go in me garage too . I do love these quotes of 700/800 bhp yep but is the car driveable as an everyday motor and how much to get 800 bhp .
I also suggest you read what a posted I didnt say my car is better than your car. I dont even own an STI .It is also widely knwon that the last of the STI were running 300PS not 280 PS . I was merely pointing out that standard for standard an STI has a better power to weight and was picking up the point that skylines are heavy cars something which everyone except skyline owners can see . Okay if you want to modify it fine but you could have an Evo 7 and Type UK STI (2 cars) for the price of a new UK spec Skyline . I make that 540 ish bhp versus standard 276/300/315/325 (whatever pick a figure) etc etc etc bhp
cheers

With the scoob, I can go two days between fill-ups. I refuse to fill up an Evo every day, and the service interval is a PITA.
Skylines are too heavy!

and ultimately the impreza does have a better design and layout in that it is a low SLOW flat four
Sorry, couldn't resist.....
