In the event of a vote to leave

Osbourne would hold an emergency budget with threats of cuts and tax rises.

Within 1 hour, 57 Tory mps signed a letter saying they would vote down the budget

to prejudge it either way is irresponsible imv

What has the EU ever done for us?

Yeah, that's right! When people have short memories or were too young to remember! When we joined the EU, our economy was in tatters, so we joined the EU and they helped us out! British workers fled on mass to the continent, not integrating, not learning the language and taking their jobs - they kept a little here just to keep them in beer and sent the rest home to the wife!

Sound familiar? In the 70's and 80's we were the Poland of the EU! The effect was so huge, they made a TV series about it! Can anyone remember how hard it was to get a builder, plumber or electrician in the UK in the 80's? Unless it was an emergency, you'd be waiting for months as they were all busy in Europe!

Post collapse of the British empire Britain was well and truly up that brown creek. We certainly weren't the 5th largest economy in the world, we weren't even the 5th in Europe! The EU was our paddle, and it was because of the EU that we could pull ourselves out of the brown stuff and to our current place as 5th largest economy in the world and 2nd largest in Europe! Its right that we now give something back and help out the poorer nations in Europe, because one day we might need their help again.

I have corrected your post

We joined the EEC, not the EU, completely different. We were lied as to the ultimate intention of the Euro political elite. I dont think the UK would of joined the EEC if we had known

It seems as EU referendum is gathering pace, the Leave campaign seems to gaining more momentum and support. It doesn't help with what Osborne stated this morning, to call an emergency budget and impose tax rises and cuts in spending on public services. This has been seen as nothing more than a threat to Brexit voters and would punish everyone in the UK. It will only serve to bolster the Brexiteers who will simply dig their heels in. With this in mind I guessing they now feel they would have nothing to lose since taxpayers money will go to the EU in anycase if they remain. Cracks are starting to appear in the Remainer's campaign, the perception is that they are the ones getting more desperate.

How can the 'Euro political elite' (you make it sound like the Illuminati ) force anyone in to a European superstate? (I expect that is what you mean about being lied to on their ultimate aims?)

None of countries with a veto would allow it, even they did, we wouldn't, and if they overrode that, we could simply leave. It's simply never going to happen unless everyone wants it.

And if everyone does want it, what's the problem anyway?

Did you not see what happened when France and Ireland voted NO. They changed the wording slightly told everyone to vote again with virtually the same outcome. It has been a slow creep. There is no way most of the European countries would of accepted an EU superstate if it was proposed in the early days.

Well if the polls are correct, the majority dont

I remember the 70's doldrums were due to the failure of successive governments inability to deal with the powerful unions that wreaked havoc on the UK's economy and productivity with constant strikes, powercuts, blackouts, uncollected refuse etc. It wasn't the EU that stopped this but Thatcher's government paved the road to UK's recovery. Also the unions and their strikers and a generally unproductive workforce shot themselves in the foot and lost public support and eventually lead to the downfall the UK manufacturing and mining industry. If anything, the EU contributed to this downfall with a push to cut carbon emissions and restrict state funding to prevent a competitive advantage for our manufacturing and mining industries against other EU states in the same industry and allowing other companies within the EU to tender for contracts that took over much of UK's businesses and utilities.

I'm not talking about polls, if this country was ruled by referenda, then we would probably have public hanging and all sorts.

We elect politicians to make our decisions for us, as generally (and I accept they are not perfect) they have a better idea of what is good for the nation.

If all the governments wanted it, then why not?

Correct

Most politicians are in it for themselves, on both sides of the argument, very few indeed have stuck to their principles over the years. These politicians generally never become a cabinet or shadow cabinet members but serve their time for their local area.

A multi-millionaire, giving V signs to people's who have had their industry decimated is sure to get a few backs up. I don't think it was even about staying In, more of a "Look at me, I'm Bob Geldoff".

Has he taken in any of those immigrants he said he would re-home in one of his mansions?

Ok, now we all know politicians have a vested interest in furthering their own careers, but that is not to say they don't do anything that is in the interests of the nation. If that were true, then we would be truly buggered by Leave as there would be no one to keep them in check. The "but we can vote them out every 5 years" argument doesn't really stand up if they are all self serving

Leaving the EU will not fix that problem. If that really is your view, then we may as well stay in the EU and get the economic benefits and put up with self serving politicians, no matter who they are!

But quite a good stunt, which will resonate around all the coastline communities where their livelihoods have been affected. Bob Geldoff will be seen as flicking a V sign to them. All about perception/feelings

I haven't been following this EU Referendum stuff for a day and a half or so, so can someone tell me why these politicians decided to make the Thames water muddy? Honestly, it looks so childish to to go around in boats in the river. Not just that Bob, but the lot of them were all bobbing up an down and doughnutting around; like a child's play! When will these politicians grow up?? All of them are stwunt masters, not just the bobbing Bob who just did a random pop.

Who paid for the boats' fuel and rent? Our taxes? Honestly!

Where's Alcazar? We could do with him moaning over the political misuse of the tax payers' money.

An 80's multi-millionaire popstar cruising on a Thames River pleasure cruiser jeering and gesticulating at hard working fishermen who turned up in their own working boats trying to protect their livelihood. Don't think he did himself and the Remain campaign any favours.

Just had a good day out, was on Westminster Bridge, flying the flag. Between myself and two mates we were interviewed by Irish, Kurdistan, Italian and Japanese media.

Caption competition time?

Ineligible millionaire referendum voter indicates his "thoughts" to the working class from his champagne and gin palace ?

Rich luvvies versus trawler-men from a devastated industry.
Bigotty McBigotface (both from Twitter)
"The crowd looked on as Geldof gave the hard working fisherman the two fingered salute whilst they attempted to defend their livelihoods"
If Geldof still doesn't like Mondays, he's going to be really cheesed off next Friday...

UPDATE: Best yet..... Geldof's the first Rat I've ever heard of voting to Remain on a sinking ship…
