So this EU funding is ...development funds? Not sure I follow

Wales also benefits from EU funds through the Common Agricultural Policy, providing around £200m
......
......
Wales also benefits from the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020,........This £957m programme is financed through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development by the EU and Welsh Government.
......
......

in addition to the guaranteed EU funds for Wales, worth over £500m annually, other EU funds totalling over £90bn are also available to Wales

The key point is that it's not the rebate

Wales receives a net benefit from being in the EU. This is as close to "fact" as we can get here.

The fact that EU money has been squandered to an extent which borders on the criminal in Wales is another topic.

The problem is Martin, we do pay a fee (the details, as JT has demonstrated are not really relevant) for our membership of the EU

It is not 350 million, that is a simple lie

But talk of whether it is a rebate or development funds misses the reality of it, in the minds of Brexiters at least

The problem is, they see no benefit of our membership - none!!!!

Maybe the fault of the Remain campaign is the failure to really articulate it

That we get no benefit is just fantasy (but peddled by Farage - read my link on the previous page why this is so relevant)

That could be the tip of a very big iceberg if companies decide to relocate to the single market post Brexit.

You only want to mention the negatives, so for balance go and find out how much inward investment Wales has attracted in the past decade, and how many jobs this has created. A very large part of this will be because of our access to the single market.

When I pointed out that Boris Johnson had peddled this untruth and that actually Wales is a net beneficiary of EU membership she told me that she "didn't want to get bogged down in details". I think this woman is probably a fair representation of the working class 'exit' mentality - people who think their spouse's mate is an expert and that Boris gives a monkies about ordinary folk. The EU isn't perfect, but nothing is. I've yet to hear a convincing argument that would encourage me to switch to leave - all I've heard are soundbites, lies and the pitiful expression of xenophobes and the thick. I don't see you as a xenophobe, Chris, and I know you're not thick, so why would you possibly want to give power Boris and Farage?
You and the worm have stated or insinuated numerous times on this thread that leavers are uneducated and ill-informed. I've found the complete opposite. The few people I know who are voting remain are almost exclusively people I consider not very bright. When I recently broached the notion that right-wing tendencies could be partly the result of loony liberal policies, you and the worm acted like I'd said something ridiculous. Actually, you called me a joker. Well, if you can't see this, maybe the "thick" ones, as you call them, are you and the worm... who interestingly both think we should remain. Oh, and when I ask the remainers I know why they think we should remain, they're unable to construct any sort of convincing argument. No facts, nothing tangible, just a soundbite like 'we're stronger together'.

Next, you question why somebody would want to give power to Farage and Boris, yet you voted for Cameron!! After witnessing his pitiful performances on recent EU debate programmes, are you still pleased with your vote?

Finally, the reason you haven't heard a convincing argument for leaving is because you don't listen, you don't consider any perspective other than your own, and you're blind to reality and how the world works. It seems you're in good company on this thread.

Lol, it is obviously hard to challenge the perception that the Brexiters are simply

"Thick white trash"

And that may sound politically incorrect

But I rest assured, and safe in the knowledge that most Brexiteers celebrate political incorrectness

My new 'friend' tells me that it's the smart who are voting for leave, looks like that's just another bit of Brexit wishful thinking.

Is there actually any proof that the EU gave this grant you mention? After a cursory glance online, the only thing I can find is that the Slovakian government offered tax breaks to Peugeot to relocate there

You could always do your own research... 5 minutes on Google gives you the answer and it's not as undemocratic as everyone says.

The European council is made up of the heads of all the member states. So we elected our representative.
