My blob Wagon PPP does 28mpg average and 36mpg on a run @70/80mph, liveable if you're not doing too many miles, also worth bearing in mind a lot of these modern diesels have some very expensive problems that very quickly wipe out any fuel savings by some considerable margin.

I loved both, I know that's not helpful
Both are straight line cars and not really suited for throwing about due to the weight especially the 5 IMO, got myself into bother on more than one occasion during spirited drives as they accelerate so effortlessly it's easy to be caught out when approaching roundabouts/corners as you are going far quicker than you probably realise.
The torque when mapped is outrageous and addictive so the risk of losing your license is greatly increased
The only come in auto which I didn't like so often thought a 330d mapped manual could be the answer, plus you would save yourself a decent chunk of money as a comparative 335 would command a premium being a 335
Super comfy, well specced and effortlessly ballistic
Miss mine actually

Have the scooby for sprinted drives at the weekend when it's done.

Don't get me wrong will get the itch to remove the DPF and map it up. But will be mostly used as a daily and weekends away etc..

Yep best advice I can give is get the category put on your license because you can only tow a combined weight of 3500kg........ It's a nightmare trying to figure that combination out I kid you not

Except for autos need a live map update, intercoolers are known to fail, later dpf model cars can fill the sump with diesel and put them in limp mode, pinion/crown gear issues on rear diff leaving the car in two wheel drive, stereos/central electronic module can be a bit temperamental, rear boot handle mechanism corrodes over time and leaves access to the boot limited.
Don't get me wrong, I like Volvos, I'm on my forth. But it'll probably be the last.
Wife's business partner has one, had it for the last eight years. I've used it a fair few times. It's had a couple of the faults I've listed above. Great practicality and comfort though.

That looks the bo!!ocks IMO. High mileage but they seem to have started to go for silly money now they are no longer in production. Probably won't lose any money on one of these any more.

Op have you not thought about getting a bigger van like a merc vito but with the 2nd row of seats in, mate of mine has one, full leather and all the toys, ticks quite a few boxes.

Having done both, it's much nicer when you've got somewhere to be out of the weather with plenty of room for all the kit and clobber, I even had a Mazda bongo with the roof bed for a few years, won't set any land speed records but it is a cracking way to travel, and 4x4 too.
