My advice is, the new Scooby's are really hards to sell.

Buy it if:

A) you do not needs to get the cash out the car quick.

b) u can afford to pay 4 engine rebuild

C) u do not mind loosing money on the car.

Cars will always fail, it's just do u have the cash to fix them???

Always, I repeat always listen to wise advice from guys who have been around the block on Snet & seen many tears shed over the years.

Having said that it always boils down to your decision but be prepared to walk away because there always other cars out there that will put a smile rather than a frown on your face.

It's priced correct for the amount of money spent, it's a lovely car just a shame you got rid of the burble.

Yes i agree and at the time i didn't realise that i would loose the burble other wise i would have gone with a different manifold.

I was tempted to get another one fitted but as its for sale it would be a wast of money i think.

To me that reads as "new bearings and gaskets"...and "latest pistons" which suggest replacement pistons of some form (new or used).

These aren't complex engines. And you "can" throw one together on the cheap. BUT you won't be able to mod it for extra power, and it may not last as long if the cause of the original failure hasn't been remedied (as well known on the EJ25).

Because its a hand written invoice doesn't mean its a codger outfit. I mean a engine workshop + oily hands and computers simply do not mix. Anyone can print out a crisp clean invoice via a computer itemising everything in detail and it will be as useless as the said paper its printed on if its falsified.. So I wouldn't question the competency of any work carried out based on the invoice as to me it looks no different to the ones I've seen for rebuilds on 500bhp cossie engines by a reputable builder (the guy just builds engines, he doesn't do offices, computers, paperwork, fancy websites, landlines etc.).

What would make me raise an eyebrow is the cat-D...what happened, how, and whats been fixed. Bear in mind it resale with a cat-d marker will always be lower than a equivalent car that's Hpi clear

Based in that the car HAS to be cheap and you HAVE to have money in the bank for a uprated engine should you wish to keep it for a long time or mod it for more power.

the issue for me would be it's CAT D listed. the engine you can sort but you can't de list the WRITE OFF status.

Yeah, I can only echo this after being sold a cat_d without being told (it wasn't shown on the V5). I bought it as a project to do up, but as then I got wind from a guy in the pub (of all places ) that it was a cat-d repair. I did a Hpi, and yep, it was true. To think I bought it off a family friend

Basically its worth more as parts. So the it became pointless to try and tidy it up (poor quality paintwork).

Still got it...e39 530i M-sport. Rusty as hell (just had to replace the one sill/jacking point). Thing is its mechanically solid, and it drives/handles beautifully, most e39s of the same age drive/handle like boats in comparison.
