Crank walk was known in the early ones, but as Jayallen says 5 onwards were ok.
I'm not too sure what you are trying to get at.
Yes, you can but a ropey 6 for £7k, but £7k will 90% of models on the road. (even a Porsche Boxter or 911, and they have their own issues)
You appear to have some kind of Evo complex that i cannot understand.
I've owned Subaru's for 10 years and have had an Evo for the last two years.... and they are very similar. I wouldn't knock either personally, and would be happy to own either.
There are certain cars i don't like myself, but i've never found the need to join a forum to troll about them. Why you joined the MLR i have no idea.

i have owned 2 and 3 4 and driven 7 and 8
the 8 by far the nicest i dont have an evo complex at all
i quite regular read through the pages of the mlr am i not allowed because i dont own an evo ?
the lad on there local to me will2 bugs the **** out of me it was direct from me to him
why are you so upset?

Evos seem to hold their money very well too.

It certainly does and I love my hatch, prefer it much more than previous versions. The only Evo I would have would be the X, for no reason other than the aesthetics.
I respect that others have different opinions and don't feel the need to trash talk / put down / abuse them when it differs to mine.
