Dispite the fact that most would concider a bunch of fives the 'normal' thing 'anyone' would have done, the fact remains that it was the WRONG thing to do. What he should have done was left it to the plod to sort it out and then gone on to complain about it.

Sure, we all say "yes, it's what I would have done". And you would all have been grabbed by the cops and spending the night in care at the local constabulary. The fact that F2J has not been taken in as well is what really at me... Agree with Astraboy. Self defence is one thing, retaliation another, and he clearly was not defending himself, he through the first punch!!

for a labour government whose policies include "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" and "stamping out the yob culture", they are not setting a good example.

Two jabs should at least be charged with assault as the other man has been. If it was any one of us, do you really think the law would be as lenient? I think not.

I don't like him, but good on him in this instance - there's no reason why anyone should have to put up with that sort of thing. From the footage, it was obviously an instinctive reaction, and a lot of us would probably have reacted in the same way.

Interesting, all this PC condemnation of retaliation here. In threads discussing joy-riders, car thieves, vandals (all of which are assault against property, not person), "string the fvckers up" is sung in unison

Gary.

Mr William Hague has made a classic speech this morning in which he states:

Its not part of his election campaign to go around punching potential voters, and saying that one of the conservative MPs was covered in paint.

end of speech. My comments
So using Labours retailiation techniques, and taking account that paint is a hazardous chemical, he should have what kneecapped the bloke who did it to him!?

The WHOLE point of this argument is that people like Phoney Tony and F2J should act professionally, and in this he did not.

I think a point is being missed here.
The prat who threw the egg carried out a premeditated attack on our country's deputy leader, now whether you like 'Two Jags' or not surely that was a cowardly attack.

While 'two jabs' didn't act professionally, he did react in an understandable way.

My point is that whoever and whatever party the attack was against it was inexcusable - However IMO the retaliation was justified.

I don't like Prescott. I think he sucks c**ks. But let's face it, if his security had been doing their job properly, he shouldn't even have been hit in the first place, he wouldn't have had to retaliate and no one would even be discussing this.

What if that egg had been a knife or a bottle?

However, they weren't doing their job and he did respond. I think it's unfair for us to judge him. It's easy to stand on the sidelines and say this and that. Like when Lennox Lewis got cooted the other week everyone said, "he shouldn't have blah blah blah". But they weren't IN THERE.

It's easy to say what you should and shouldn't do but in the heat of the moment all that goes out the window. People say, I'd have done this and I'd have done that.
That's easy to say WHEN YOUR NOT ON THE SPOT.

How easy is "who wants to be a millionaire" when you're in the comfort of your armchair,
not Sh1tting yourself in front of millions?

I think I'd have leathered the b@stard myself, but I CAN say that because I'm not THERE. In reality I might freeze, run away, you just don't know. Anyone who's ever been in fights (12 years martial arts) knows they don't go to plan in the real world.

MP or not, he shouldn't have to take that kind of **** from anyone. No one should.

IMHO he did what he did, that's it.

It was funny though!!

This is the most amuseing debate for ages, but I think we're making a bit of meal of this....(groan)

Personally I think it's disgusting to end up with that crap stuck to you! If I were the egg I'd be sick.

quote:
Taken from BBC news:

A spokesman for North Wales police said: "Last night there was an orchestrated attempt to disrupt the meeting and stretch the resources of the police."

He said 30 people had gathered near the Little Theatre before Mr Prescott arrived and two convoys of farm vehicles and trucks converged on the town centre.

It only took 30 people (standing with placards) to 'stretch the resources' of the police protecting our deputy leader? In reality there's little that can be done about this type of thing - unless we get Prescott his own bulletproof 'Pope mobile'. Then again, he probably wouldn't fit

I don't think he'll be charged and I don't think he'll resign but given there were rumours that Tony would demote him anyway I think its a dead cert now.

Certainly livened up the campaign a bit - maybe they'll get back to discussing the real issues in a couple of days....

Cool

Jus been reading the new Labour manifesto, it`s all the usual good stuff
however there`s been an addition 2 the bottom it reads " Labour condone all acts of violence (unless a taffy jumps out @ u with armed with a sinister lookin egg, in which case it is totally acceptable 2 deck the fugger, as demonstrated by our man Jabba C`mon ye bastid Prescot)"

Yeah Jabba needs 2 go down 4 this, fat petrol taxin bastid. If it woz me i`d ave told taffy " right ya bastid round the corner now, coz yer 4 a kickin". An got the plods 2 keep every 1 else back whilst softening the gits ribs
Polititions eh they jus don`t know the score

Unhappy

Saw some classic other "eggings" on telly. like John Major getting one in the face as well.

Sorry but F2J should not have responded, as its been said (not on here I dont think) its an occupational hazard for the elected getting "egged".

If there are not happy about that, maybe someone should up the stakes? Go american style I rekon, bang .. bye bye....

Hehehe

Just wondering ... does anyone approve the egg throwing, or are you just saying he should have sued the farmer for all he got, ruin him through legal means, and reposses his tractor ?

Would that have been the "politically correct thing" ? Or would we then cry out that it is unfair for a bigwig to sue a poor farmer ?

For once the man seemed almost human like.

Theo

PS: my respect to all those that would realize in 1 second that it was only an egg, and not something far more dangerous.

PS2: and yes he will probably resign or be demoted for doing what he understandably did, that's the way it goes.
