I done a blob with a 5 speed in about 2.5hrs on a ramp once, i imagine on the floor itll take about 4hrs.
The biggest issue is going to be if its a 6 speed. The boxes are a lot heavier and a lot more hassle to try and lift off the floor to fit.

I opted for the engine out method, easier in my opinion.

Heres one for example, 1st google result - http://www.iwsti.com/forums/diy-mods...emoval-gd.html
If you're not worried about picking up a spanner and played with lego as a kid you'll be fine. Its just a case of unbolting everything thats holding the engine to the car like hoses, brackets, electrical connections etc so its free to come out the bay, installation is just the reverse.
If you havent already, get yourself a decent socket set(s) with 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive socketry and a good selection of accessories like universal joints, extension bars etc etc. A set of ring/open ended spanners, a Torque wrench and various screwdrivers and pliers etc. Most importanly, hire or buy an engine hoist.
There are some things to consider, its not just a case of unbolting everything and throwing it to one side, thats where the guides come in handy. A very important one is remembering to support the gear box with a trolley jack or wood when separating the engine, you dont want the gear box falling down when you pull the engine out!
Theres a few pictures in my link I posted above.
So open the bonnet, guide in one hand, cup of tea in the other and get cracking!
