Hi SJ
Just to wrap this up, can you confirm that your steering boss does not allow the self cancelling indicators to function?

Sorry, I actually bought it from Tegiwa (slightly cheaper, IIRC). But Driftworks sell them, too. So does Nengun, I think.
Be sure to get the correct version for your car...

I don't think you can get the indicators to self cancel with the short NRG from what I have heard, as the clock spring is to long to fit in the unit, I believe the longer/deeper units are required to accept the length of spring, unless others know different.
Does anyone know where I can get the works bell quick release, without ordering from overseas?

Hi SJ,
That's the QRB I am going for, as I have read some bad reports on the NRG one.
I take it the short boss you have is the works bell one?
can you confirm you lose the self cancelling function with the shorter boss?

The NRG is quality so maybe the bad reports that you are reading are for the snide Chinese NRG replicas "ebay special's",as my wife has one and its superb quality rock solid no movement what so ever once fitted, anyway getting back to your original question my one cancels when it wants to it can be a bit temperamental but I guess that's the price you pay when you start changing the road manners of the car from O.E,as you don't really use the indicators around a race track if you get my drift.SJ.

Yes I guess that maybe the case, you have to watch where you buy things from these days, so many knock offs.
so what make is your boss? short works bell?
you must have managed to get the spring in there to get it to work?
even if it's intermediately.

For the record, the HKB boss's self-canceling and horn push works just as OEM - not temperamental one iota.
If you do decide on the HKB, then you need the Airbag OS-224 version (as I also have a v.5 STi, albeit not the Type R).

Thanks for that Joz8968,
I think That's the way I'm going to go, I think there is only 20mm/25mm in it anyway, it can't be that bad reaching the stalks, otherwise everyone would have been on here, saying you cannot reach once you put QRB on there.
And besides even looking on Works bell's own site, I'm not 100% which model Number I need anyway.

Unless you've got short, stubby fingers, I really can't see it being a problem.
In the early days, I ran the Momo boss with a really deep 95mm dished wheel. So getting on for around 7-8 inches in total.... I could still reach the stalks with the whole first knuckles, let alone the very tips.

Ok due to the fact I'm struggling to find the short WB, and from what you have just said, I'm going to get the HKB one, Thanks for your help mate.
Cheers mate

Because my ridiculously small 260mm wheel's rim now obscures the dash indicator lights, I added this handy mod:
...Additional indicator LEDs at the top of the steering column cowling.
They are separate, for both L & R (I just put the hazards on to show them both).
Also, if you look closely, just under the wheel's left hand spoke, you can just make out an additional small red horn-push button on the bottom of the cowling (as the steering wheel doesn't have an integrated central horn-push).

Hi Joz8968,
That looks really neat, great idea.
And thanks for the measurements.
I did end up after a lot of searching, finding the measurements of the Works Bell Boss, and ended up ordering that one, as it was on the same site I found a Works Bell Quick Release Boss, so all good in the end.
