Best get a custom set made from a decent fabricator,

Use a thicker wall if you can't use a better grade of stainless,

 

Busta are you denying RCM use larger nuts and bolts on there up pipe ?

I have worked on cars for a living for 19 years bolts are only replaced if they are stretch bolts or if they have been damaged in any way. I never reuse nylon lock nuts.

When I worked at the Dealership and carried out any warranty repairs, I would have to print off the repair instructions and read them carefully. If they asked for any nuts, bolts,washers to be replaced on the repair instructions, they had to be replaced. If they were not replaced and booked out from the parts department the warranty repair would be rejected and my dealership fined by the manufacturer.

 

I haven't said anything about larger or small nuts, I was simply saying new ones need to be used (if re-fitting for any reason) only due to my experience of them going rusty and getting stuck etc and not as good thread due to rusting (I'm probably talking about the heat treated ones which are genuine items btw).
I don't know if rcm sell or supply different bolts to comment on that

 

Busta I was not having a go at you in any way, I was simply trying to explain that there is difference between the 3 bolt exhaust manifolds.

RCM use larger bolts to stop the up pipe gasket from leaking compared to the other offerings.

How long before your car is back on the road ?

 

I can tell you that the three bolts that joined the up-pipe to the manifold where a challenge to remove, and yes, they are rusted to buggery and will be replaced!

But the studs in the heads are fine, no issues with those and I dont see any reason to replace them at this time.

Also the studs at the top of the up-pipe are in good condition, however the nuts are not and will be replaced when I re-fit the manifold.

The guys as Davis & Snell are pretty sure they can fix the manifold/headers no problem

 

Erm.....when I have some more spare money for a new shortblock lol, I'm not bothering wasting time and refitting the ej207.

 

nice one i spoke to steve today at work he said you had been in, just for reference i have had the £199 quid 2 bolt ebay special on mine for 80.000 miles with wrap sealed with the special spray with no issues

 

If this is true would that not mean that there would be two different gaskets available for the 3 bolt uppipe.

 

Picked them up the other day from Steve, they have done an excellent job. Seems the slip joint had seized up preventing any movement hence the cracking.

They freed it all up and welded the cracks.

They did an excellent job, test fitted them the other day and they fit perfectly to. Just finished re-wrapping the up-pipe and the headers and they will be going back on this weekend if new gaskets arrive in time.

Also, to clear things up, they are GT Spec headers, and the Up-pipe is a Harvey Trick.

GT Spec, RCM, Tomei, Kakumei etc they are all the same thing.
Same product, same factory same, manufacturer markings on them.

 

Apparently some say otherwise. And I dont know the actual truth.

Either way, the receipt I have for these says GT Spec, so I am going with that.

 

Seen it with my own eyes.Ive had several sets over the years. I've had 1 set of TSL headers, 2 sets of RCM headers and currently have a set of Kakumei on my Hawkeye. They were ALL identical with the exact same markings in them. No Internet hearsay here matey

I bought a set of GT spec headers second hand. They were wrapped, I've removed the wrap and I'm going over them with a wire wheel to remove the surface rust. They look like new again really, no cracks. There are a few hard to access areas of on the shorter side I need to finish off with smaller wheels.

My plan was to clean up (remove all surface rust), paint them with exhaust paint and then re wrap them. I know the paint will probably fall off eventually but hopefully it'll stop any trapped moisture getting to the steel so easily.
