I've got my stereo mounted in the genuine satnav dash top enclosure and a tablet mounted in the dash in the original stereo location which connects to a Bluetooth dongle plugged into the ecu diagnostic port. works a treat, get all sorts of gauges and data logging. can't go wrong. also means I get spotify, YouTube, internet etc.

Will need to change the spigot rings as the FSTI uses a 56.1mm ID bore spigot ring and 65mm is too large.
You don't want to run them without the correct spigot size otherwise all the forces are going through the studs which can prematurely fail.

i agree with above the wheel size you mentioned is not a good idea , there is no reason why any subaru 100 pcd wheel will not fit , the standard rims look nice , tyre width you can do apparently a 235/40/18 , i have not as the price starts going up , i’ve kept standard rims with 225/40/18, standard height is 45, coilovers give you more room, on standard suspension there is little clearance for a wider tyre

Another thing to watch out for with Foresters is wind noise coming from the wing mirror gaskets. If a previous owner has pushed against the glass repeatedly to close the doors the gap between rubber and the glass gets bigger letting in the wind when driving at speed.
I have this issue with mine which I am fixing this weekend just over £100 pounds for two new gaskets. I will be updating my build thread with the results.

I had the same problem with mine when I purchased the car over a year and a half ago. I fixed it for free in 5 minutes flat with some big grips. Still no wind noise to date, it's perfect.

50 quid each plus £8 postage.
labour as well if you are not fitting yourself.
Mine are so far gone that replacements are really the only option.

cheers for the above regards the gusset , i ’ve fitted one new one , the other looks a bit worn , on the other half’s car 155k miles and there both fine lol , BPR i saw your post on the tablet and gauges what a great idea , did it cost much ? was it easy to put in and finally the technical stuff was that straight forward ? i always thought the subaru ecu did not give out much detail ?

I went through lots of options of cables etc including designing and making my own adaptors, usb plugs, etc etc to get it all to work with the Foz, all costing a fair bit of time and money. That aside, I know what does and doesn't work very well now!
Basically the FSTI uses one of the very first generation drive by wire ECU's with a very old processor and software platform. As such, it isn't ODB2 compatible like the newer models and you can't simply use a cheap ELM327 Bluetooth adaptor or something along these lines. You have to use something that can communicate in SSM (Subaru specific protocol) and even then you can't get every single field, it's a little frustrating to be honest.
You can buy a KKL usb adaptor cable from fleaBay for around £7 that will connect to the ECU ODB2 port and take data out. You'll also need a USB OTG adaptor cable if you're planning on taking this data into an android tablet. This works, but then you lose the ability to charge the tablet via the same port, trust me I've tried everything. You can use Torque Pro or BTSSM apps, both work great on android
After months of hacking around with adaptors I eventually went for the plunge with a Bluetooth dongle. Only 1 that I know of works with SSM protocol so you can't use any old Bluetooth dongle. I purchased the ODBKEY Bluetooth version. It is the only one I know of that can be re-configured from ODB2 to SSM protocol to work with these cars. It's a bit of a fiddle and took me a while using a Bluetooth enabled laptop to get it re-configured and working. But once done, it's been faultless. Streams data in real time and allowed me to keep the USB port free for charging.
I also downloaded a program called Macro Droid or Mac droid (can't remember) which allows me to set functions so that the thing goes to sleep with ignition/charging off and wakes up when turned on etc to save power and turn screen off. Works great. To get it 100% perfect you may also need to root the android tablet.
So in short, ignoring my development costs and non-functioning versions, I was lucky enough to already have the satnav dash top enclosure installed in my car when I purchased it. So it's cost me the cost of a 2nd hand tablet (£50 ish) and the ODBKEY dongle (£100). Plus a LOT of farting around!
But, it's invaluable. Without this I wouldn't have known my new exhaust was causing my turbo to over boost and wouldn't have been able to monitor my engine every day. My engine would have been toast by now! Fantastic upgrade.
Plus I can use the tablet for spotify, youtube or anything else I want in the car. Great upgrade!!!

BPR , thank you for your write up , it’s very interesting , i’ve been googling already , the mechanics and fitting side of it does not bother me it’s the linking and program stuff side does

The Pcd on the fsti is 100 the golf i think is 112 , there will be lots of places that you can buy wheels from brand new of your choice , or look at other scoobies that are pre 2006?/ not wide body as the pcd was changed around then , the only reason i stuck with original is sleeper nature of car plus the standard alloys from what i’ve heard are made by rays and a one off

it’s totally your choice what you do , but another option is colour change them , mine are now black and look a lot meaner silver looks a bit bland in my opinion , gunmetal grey works well too , there are a lot of different routes to go for wheel options , i would mod the car first , map coilovers , stereo as it wont work well in the uk , exhaust centre delete and back box , then look at wheels , it’s a good all round car and fun to drive as you will find out soon , as mentioned above an exhaust and re map makes a lot of difference and is a good starting point and mpg will improve when you drive it sensibly , i’ve never had an imported car that has had an exhaust and a map done by previous japanese owner which is weird i think it’s down to there version of an mot
