How much further away from home are kids schools nowadays on average? What are the figures? Is it really that much worse than it used to be or are we seeing the past with rose tinted glasses again (like Brexit )

Nope did,nt happen, we spent 5/6 hours clearing snow and gritting, paths, staff car park, parents car park and drop off points to no avail ,
Even with help from NHS sevices who were clearing local doctors surgery
car park.
We did get a well done for our sterling efforts, on our social media page,so at least it should be back to normal come monday...if we get no more snow.
On more sour note, As we all sat drinking coffee and planning for Monday (should) we get more snow!!!.
I happen mention some of your comments on how schools go about their procedures in these conditions and indeed showed them your posts, to say there was an eruption of shock to most of your posts would be an under statement!!!!!.
As these derogatory comments were coming from a Professional serving police officer!.
I would like bring your comments to the attention of a senior officer, so he/she may offer a statement, as to if said comments are expectable.
Would you be willing to sent me the relative details?.
Thank you
in antiicpation.

I doubt very much that there was an 'eruption of shock' somehow - and which comments do you find 'derogatory'?
You have the 'relative details' in front of you if you want to 'bring it to the attention of a senior police officer' but I remind you that this is a public forum designed for topical debate. And in this forum you have accused me of being "OFFENSIVE AND A DISGRACE TO THE PEOPLE YOU SUPPOSABLE SERVE." and that I am a "bad apple". You also make a comment about 'padded cells' which is disrespectful to those suffering mental health issues.
I am merely asking the question why some schools are open and some are shut in the same areas? All the ones in our area are still shut, yet we have had no snow in 48 hours and all the roads are now back to normal - bit slushy in places, but easily accessible. And every other business appears to be open.
If you can not answer - just say so, instead of your childish comments.

Firstly I do not agree with Felix, as with previous topics he has an astute opinion of the world that influences him. Everyone is different but is entitled to a view if kept polite. (Such as no swearing, ranting, hounding, straw men, following round on different threads etc.), and generally speaking a internet discussion will always contain folk with conflicting views who are unwilling to accept another's opinion, that's just the way it is for as long as I have been using the 'net (circa 1998).
HOWEVER, I will BAN anyone that thinks it's ok to use a opinionistic forum post as a means to jepodise somebody's job or personal life, regardless of what that is. It is one of the lowest most petty and despicable acts found on social media next to trolling, blackmailing and grooming.
To reiteritate, if you take a online argument and make it a means to cause harm or inconvenience to a person's life outside of the internet you are not welcome here. I have permanently banned people before when they have took this line of approach.
Put simple; Keep internet stuff on the Internet. Don't like it? Well sounds like the roads are a shambles there too and have only gotten worse since I left! Are people getting worse at driving, too?

It's why our infrastructure is falling apart: Too many people commuting too far to work, school, shops etc. For decades we have built swaths of suburban and country housing with no real amenities, and no expansion of routes to serve greater needs of commuting that these schemes cause (the same applies to amalgamating Hospital A&Es, Schools, Police stations, Fire depots, giant out of town supermarkets etc.). A large chunk of our rail infrastructure was removed on the basis that the roads were a better solution...which was true at a time when the funds were used on road building and expansion.
That ended in the mid 1990's when it was considered that road building promoted more people to use cars and increased pollution. From then on we had road capacity decreased by ceasing or restricting funds on new expansion projects, converting dual carriageways into single, turn slip roads into junctions, remove left turn give-ways at lights, install traffic lights and phasing them to cause more congestion and pollution...pressuring people to move further away where it's "quieter and cleaner" and thereby putting more demand on commuter routes (road and rail ). The same can be said for rail too at a time when more people try and travel via train: For example, they plonk new shopping centre on top of Birmingham's New Street, which cannot cope with more services, utterly useless.
Does anyone have the statistics of those who work in London but live outside? It's not unique to London, for example I've seen a massive expansion in Birmingham's commuter belt..I used to live on the edge of it, now it's expanded far beyond. I'm also meeting folk living near me and commuting to London to work everyday for an office job. Sod that for a living!

As already stated, my wife has a 20 mile trip to work and 20 miles back. On Thursday, she couldn't have got in, since all major raods were closed for the hills. Tyhe minoir roads lead to the major ones and the same hills. that's the Lincoln edge.
ALL FOUR schools in her small town closed that day, same reason.
They reopened friday, yet others in rural Lincs didn't.

And whilst funding on roads was decreased, no where near enough was invested to provide alternate transport and/or more localised amenities. Never forget the Blair era that simultaneously discouraged car use via taxation whilst allowing the building of out of town shopping centres designed to be accessed by car!
You lot up Lincolnshire had both ends of the stick covered in crap as you never got your new roads until the last decade (and finally Lincoln's getting its bypass 90years after it was first planned!!), I remember being consistently stuck in slow traffic following a slow a horsebox on the A46 before it was made into a dual carriageway. We Midlanders are lucky as we had a lot of ours built, but instead we had their capacity reduced and then neglected and bodged past their structure's "end of life" limits (M5 flyovers at West Brom, Spaghetti junction etc.).

Oh aye, make no mistake, I blame both parties, the Tories just treat the North as if it's Manchester/Liverpool and the rest doesn't exist, while Liebour swore blind there was no north-south divide, so did nothing for us.
The Liebour invented the speed kills mantra and scattered speed cameras everywhere, while simultaneously banging on about pollution from cars, (neatly foregetting that from lorries, buses, vans and huge black cabs), so the motorist was labelled a criminal and an eco-terrorist.
Now, if we try and speak out, everyone hates us so nothing is done.
As for Lincoln's bypass, we'll see. Carillion were in charge... And meanwhile the A15 heading north, which would make an EXCELLENT secondary route for the A1 to the Humber Bridge and the south Humbmberside ports, remains an awful 50mph limited congested, dangerous road. It's almost dead straight but has loads of traffic and is known locally as "The Ramper", since it has so many dips that hide oncoming vehicles.
What with trucks and farm vehicles it's a nightmare.
If they dualled it, lorries heading for the Humber could come off the A1 at Newark, and go A46, A15, M180, A15 to hull or Carry on the A180 to the Humber ports. At the moment, most come off the A1 at Doncaster and use the M18 eastbound.

Possibly, but I'll see how it goes on Monday.
But the early morning news on Friday stated that all routes in and around our area (both rural and urban) were all back to normal and there were no road closures.
Not sure why all the schools remained closed though? I can perhaps understand a few staying closed if they had a number of staff with transport issues, but not for all the schools to stay closed.

On the school front there does seem to be an inconsistency between when they shut etc. but then they are all full on nowadays in unison when someone wants to get the kids out to take advantage of a better priced vacation etc. I can see why it might seem to some that some schools are run more lazily than others whether or not it is true (I don't know) - much the same as the outpouring of negativity, by some, towards the police over things that may or may not be true

Plus there's still the problem of where staff are coming from?
Lots of older female staff were second earners for guys earning big money, so lived in little villages. THEY get cut off first.
When I was working, I walked it to work during the 1982 snows. Four miles each way, in snow, is no joke.
One guy couldn't get out of his drive for FOUR days, he lived ten to fifteen miles away along country roads.

So...the school goes soft, in come OFSTED and they fail.
NO way are they gonna risk that.
PS: any outpourings of hate toeards the police are well-deserved and because it IS all true
But hey...they are only obeying orders, same as the heads have to.....

It is comical listening to you lot moan every year, the first sign of winter weather and the country grinds to a halt. I would probably get laughed at and sacked if I told work I couldn't get in because it snowed or is a bit cold.
All you need is a bit of preperation and consideration and you wouldn't have any problems. But it is easier to moan and criticise isn't it.
