Personally I think you'd be nuts to even consider parting 10k+ for an old original Type R. Seem's to me like you are more worried about paintwork and corrosion, which is very understandable but don't forget, a 19/20 year old original engine running sub-300bhp is going to be a bit tired, as will the rest of the drivetrain and suspension too seeing as it appears you are looking for something 'original'.
I've always said a clean classic shell with newage running gear are the cars that should be fetching good money, you have better reliability whilst still retaining the classic body. With that being said I wouldn't rule out finding a relatively good shell / car that needs some work and go from there.

It has a very cheap paint job with external trim hanging off..The skirts don't fit and the rubber gaskets can be pulled out (the passenger skirt doesn't even touch the body work at the front)..The roof rails don't fit and have gap between the plastic and bodywork. The driver's side skirt wasn't prepped prior to painting so you can see a very poor service beneath the paint
The rubber seals are perished and weren't replaced when the respray was done..The bonnet doesn't fit properly..
There is orange peel every where, the boot is dented with cracked paint...The interior, with the exception of the cracked dashboard, is from a newage 4 door..therefore the A pillar and door trim is an appalling fit...The wheels are heavily kerbed.
There is no paperwork for the rebuild and no service history.
Two of the Lamco gauges don't work, it is on cheap tyres...
etc etc etc

it looks amazing in the pictures..that's why i wasted a 350 mile round trip to look at it..
I think the pics must have been taken a few years ago..they are also very obviously photoshopped..the colours are too saturated..Take it from me, it looks NOTHING like that in the flesh..It's tatty...very tatty.

I don't know if there's any paperwork for the FMIC etc..Im assuming that it might have had some other work done because the pipe is big enough to hide in.

Good grief. I paid £21,000 for a brand new STi6 Type R back in 2001. £12,500.00 is a bit optimistic.

visited SVA years ago every 2 door had been painted i asked why i was told all cars they had in stock where original/unpainted they said all cars need some TLC and 99% of the stock have paint before sale as cars get scratched in transit (BS)
the company they use for bodywork must employ Ray Charles

only one solution really - get a non runner and start from scratch - im pretty sure most guys on here have either looked after their cars from the start, paid good money for clean imports/examples, or spent money restoring classics.
i tried to sell mine a few years ago, but looking back it was a sh*t heap. rusty arches, badly fitting panels etc. Knowing that and what people are askin for classic STIs nowadays you'll be hard tasked to find a clean example with no rust or hidden problems that someone will part with for less than 10k.. and if they are.. what are they hiding?
If i was to start again (with what ive spent on my car and its nowhere near most guys on here's standards), id buy a 3 door RA rolling shell and build from the bottom up.
either that or stump up large bills for a ready made one.
good luck
