BBC. They really aren't doing themselves any favours

Seems there is a lot of misinformation out there in the "defund the BBC circles", such as Andy posting earlier in the thread that he can just record and watch later!
I suspect many people who have cancelled are now subsequently breaking the law and risk a criminal prosecution because some bloke on a forum said it was OK and he cancelled years ago!
As for decriminalising non-payment of the license fee (if that bill gets passed), all that means is it is no longer a criminal offence to not pay. In real terms the only difference is non-payment offences will be prosecuted in a civil court rather than a criminal court, but the fines will stay the same. Actually, it may even make it easier to claim against non-payers!

Yes, you can watch on-demand only (excluding BBC i-Player) without a TV license, but the point is many of the people cancelling the license do so without really understanding what they are or are not allowed to watch because they took advice from some right wing idiot on the internet as fact!

I love the BBC and have absolutely no problem with payin the Licence Fee - however their left leaning bias and ultra PC credentials arent doing them any favours with a lot of the Audience.
Even the newly appointed DG of the BBC has recognised that - he was interviewed on the BBC R4 PM Programme last night driving home, he pretty much said they were left leaning, anti brexit - and the R4 Today Programme interviewd someone else at 8.45AM this morning who also said especially in comedy & satirical shows they were Left Leaning, Anti- Brexit, Oxbridge with no impartilality - and the new DG was going to attempt change it.
However oddly I can find no linked stories to either of these Interviews on the BBC news homepage today....

You might have cancelled you license (although I'm not convinced you really have!), but are you honestly sticking to the rules? Given you already admitted to breaking them earlier by watching recorded programs, I suspect not, in which case posting about it on a public forum and encouraging others to cancel their license may not be your smartest move!

So its just , as you see it , some political statement
i doubt you can cancel "whenever you like"
bbc boss likley relented on proms on account old codgers are majority of license holders , and brexit supporters
still think we should be regaining Our Empire

I wouldn’t say they are left biased on a broadcast level. The problem is when they try to be balanced or find a more right of centre viewpoint it’s on the more extreme right of centre or it’s in a condescending manner or selects crackpots to put forward that side, as such its topics sets a narrative. When reality is there is no side most people are centre with a bit of left and bit of right, but the content doesn’t reflect that. It seems more voice is given to SJWs and raging righties.
Not helped when it publishes speculative journalism to support its stories; Just look at the headline or first paragraph if it says “could”, “may” or “if”, that isn’t news it’s speculation! Same goes with loaded words.
This leave me suggest there is an institutional issue whereby the majority employed within are of the same irk, with similar views, backgrounds so cannot properly empathise with any members of the public that may believe differently. So when they try to empathise they get it wrong. That’s not a left/right bias, but a bias within the organisation. Similar to office workers vs. shop floor workers, or public sector vs. private. Those who have only experienced one side cannot properly represent the other.
In effect it’s been a victim of its own intention to be diverse....For example it will employ a non-caucasian, gay (sorry, LGBTQ+) or female in priority to a white middle aged male; Just listen to Radio2 on a Saturday and tell me with a straight face that Alan Carr has a voice for radio (maybe the face, but let’s not get bitchy ). And focusing more on topics of race, gender, climate and underclasses. The average middle working class white dude becomes underrepresented or worse misrepresented even if they are a majority. The only other underrepresented groups probably are the physically and mentally disabled, and that’s not right either.
However oddly I can find no linked stories to either of these Interviews on the BBC news homepage today....
It’s strange how certain stuff gets lost like that. I bet you’ll struggle to find a podcast too! Other papers had no trouble picking up on it. Although it focused on left-wing comedy...maybe true with stand up and HIGNFY etc. But other than that I’m struggling on what other left wing comedy he’s on about. It’s not exactly Love Thy Neighbour (that was ITV).

In the end the BBC have given Nigel Farage and other fringe personas more air time than their following would justify. Often getting invited to political programs far more often than people from parties that have actually be elected to parliament!
People often mistake unbiased reporting as left wing because they are so consumed by right wing biased media.

Yes, most people on the extreme right are extreme; The problem is the BBC is unable to suitably place a slightly-to-the-right (or even slight-left) argument instead selecting the extremes or the overly vocal.
Given folk like Farage or Chris Packham (which I put in the same box of irrational biases) the soap box is not properly representative of the right, nor the left. We just get the extremes and the ridiculousness that ensues.
Unbiased reporting has to to detach itself from this narrowed resource pool. Stop repeatedly using the same extreme individuals to quote or garner opinion from when these individual’s opinions are not reflective of wider society (that does not mean they should be ‘cancelled’ if they do something - just report the activity but don’t quote them).
The other day they quoted an ‘aviation industry leader’ as if he was impartial...no it was ***** Walsh a man eager to cut out the competition in order to make his own company more profitable with history of outspoken and polarising opinions. His views are not necessarily that of others in aviation so ‘BA leader’ is a more accurate description (or just quote his name in the headline instead of burying it a few paragraphs down ).

Can’t see how they could catch anyone intentionally watching live TV unless someone is stupid enough to answer the door and talk to them or have the TV viewable from the front window...Or uses their streaming services without a VPN.
TVLA (outsourced to Capita IIRC) are on par with wheel clampers and car ‘parking charge’ companies. The red letters are frequent, threatening and ‘visits’ generally target the vulnerable/soft targets. Even if you don’t have any receiving equipment (in my case empty property) they will continually barrage you with letters despite writing letters and phone calls to confirm no licence needed, invite a visit to confirm...but still would not visit.
Some good websites/blogs showing the bluff of letters they send...after long enough of threats of courts etc. It stops and goes back to the beginning again! To think licence fee payers pay for this.
If the Beeb was serious about the fee, it’d lock down its streaming service like netflix etc. And it could have encrypted broadcasts decades ago....99% of DVB TVs have a PCMIA slot that will accept a CAM (conditional access module)....there’d be no need for the TVLA bullies in its current form.

Yep, fitted on pretty much every digital TV since DVB first came out, even brand new TVs still have them (just bought a new TV for the Kitchen and it’s still got one), it’s labelled ‘Common Interface’, but it’s actually PCMCIA.
1990’s tech in a 2020 TV that’s never used (well unless you had Setanta/ESPN before BT took it over).
