If you're buying privately and don't know too much mechanics (like myself) definately take someone along who knows their stuff.

If not, I think the AA do a full mechanical check (which includes an HPI), costs about £150 (I think - chap who bought my Clio 16v) had one done, they're very thorough and take about 2 hours). Quite expensive if you decide not to buy the car, but worth it if you avoid a shi**er!

I know of a car which would meet your criteria possibly for sale in Scotland.

I think it's a MY99 silver 4 door, with 29k miles. Well looked after, never thrashed etc.

Hi everyone, I'd like to get one for about £11-12k but I could perhaps stretch towards the £13k mark but would probably only do that if it was mint and had some of the modifcations I'd been looking to make already on it. I've got so many avenues to explore at the moment that my head is spining!!

I've though about that and I think I'll keep it for the time being cause I like it and so that I remember my roots. I noticed Astraboy seems to drive a cosworth so I figure he did the same at some point

madou the Saxo was all mines and I bought it for £10,800 new just 16 months ago. I intend to get a scooby for about £12k so it's a little bit more. The ONLY reason I can buy the scooby is cause the saxo free insurance gave me 6 year ncd after 1 year (had been on parents policy before) so at 23 I can now afford the insurance. The big trouble with vts-scooby transaction is the monumental difference in running costs

Saxo Boy, I have a MY99 Royal Silver UK Turbo for sale with 29K miles. Located in Crieff, and work in Stirling. Mostly driven by my wife with baby in back so it hasn't been thrashed. She always lets it warm up and leaves her running after a run - in fact, she remembers better than I do! We got it from T+C in Perth a year ago. We paid 17k! Full Subaru Service History. Car is standard apart from P1 Anthracite wheels, Magnex S/S backbox (Great sound!), Momo Gear ****. (We forfaited about £1000 discount for these extras.) It is not colour coded and has the Subaru mudflaps all round. Still warrantied until September. Previously it had one owner and we got it at 15K miles. Last service was the 2.5 year service (it has been serviced on time as opposed to mileage).
We have not advertised it yet, and we are looking for £13,500 ono. I am not in a major rush to sell it, so am holding out for a good price. But you are welcome to make us an offer.

By the way, we are selling because we also run an Elise and have started a family, so it's bye-bye Scoob, hello Scenic for us. This is the same car John S mentioned in a previous post.

Same for me on the insurance thing. I got my Saxo at the beginning of 2000 and then when I got the renewal in 2001 I got 6 years. Now have 7 years no claims after siging up for another year this Jan. Means I can actually afford the insurance, or just about anyway. It's still feels a bit odd having Citroen insurance for a Scoob, but at the price, I ain't complaining. Saved me around £500. They are very helpful when you phone them too in my experience.

Is it an accelerated insurance scheme or have you had the Saxo for 6 years??

I had a similar thing about 1 year after buying my Scoob (tender age of 24). I had a company car and nada NCD. I took out insurance for my Golf and had 1 yr NCD, I then bought the Scoob and after 1 year moved insurers. They offered to give me 5yr NCD (even though I'd only had 2yrs NCD before).

When I got my renewal they had two statements - 1. showed by actual no. of years 3, 2. showed the accelerated ncd of 5 years.

A few companies that I called around wouldn't accept the accelerated types and just the physical amount of years that I had my own insurance.

Just something to eatch out for when getting insurance quotes. You don't want to be stuck once you've splashed out on a new Scoob.

I just got my Scooby this month after selling my 106GTI!

First thing you will notice is the amount of petrol it uses, the petrol gauge just seems to drop a bit futher everytime I look at it.

It is well worth it though!!!

Stephan30 have you modified the scooby in any way and how did you get on with insurance? The reason I ask is CI want £950 for a standard UK MY99. I'm 23 and only been properly insured in my own name for 1 year so that is great. However, a full exhaust system and replacement filter puts that up to £1300. Again, steep but probably fair with my age. BUT.....when I told them the car has 17" gold alloys (look like the gold alloys on 30% of scoobies out there) they put it up to £1600!!! How the hell can the risk of the alloys justify a further £300.

I've had the windows tinted and it was free. Haven't declared anything else. They did give me a reduction when I added the other half though.
