Need better tyres Help?

After reading this , "While Pilot Sport 4 replaces the Pilot Sport 3, it’s an improvement on the Pilot Super Sport, not a “new” Pilot Sport 3, in design and technology. In comparative testing in 18" sizes, Pilot Sport 4 outperforms the Pilot Super Sport in 99% of everyday situations, with the added benefit of 10-15% improved wear. The other 1% is on a dry track where the Pilot Super Sport would outperform the Pilot Sport 4 by a couple of tenths of a second around a long track." I am tempted to go for the 4.
They start to go off after a few laps though on the dry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMv64liOqIE
I have a winter set of wheels/tyres so I am looking for a summer tyre that is good on the wet as well as on the dry and with which I can do the occasional track day.

You are confusing the 4 & 4S
The 4 replaces the 3
The 4S replaces the Supersport
You cannot compare the 4 to the SS as the Non S has a basic carcass
The 4S uses the motorsport dirived carcass shared with the Supersports
40secs in
Soo many folk confuse the Non S & assume its a performance tyre. It's not in the same league as the Supersport & full fat 4S when it comes to serious stuff.
Only 18" u can get the 4S in was 235 section.
You hear him talk about how much that carcass improves turn in on the vid u posted. Compared to the Non S.
You can tell the Non S has sloppy sidewalls when u go from one to another.
As an everyday tyre the Non S is better than the Supersports
But as a performance tyre it is nothing like and as your clip shows they quickly overheat & drop off.
Which neither the 4"S" or Supersport do.

Edit; one of the R205 owners recommended going up to 255 40 18, giving a squarer shoulder.

@SmurfyBhoy , the text is misleading though as it talks about the 4 not the 4s "While Pilot Sport 4 replaces the Pilot Sport 3, it’s an improvement on the Pilot Super Sport, not a “new” Pilot Sport 3".
Hence, my understanding is the 4 is a better tyre (in most circumstances) than the PSS and later on it explains the same "Pilot Sport 4 outperforms the Pilot Super Sport in 99% of everyday situations"
From what you say and the video you linked, the PSS is the motorsport based tyre. I've used the PSS before and really liked the steering feel and how grippy they are, they really improved the steering feel of my FSTi which was lacking.
I've e-mailed Michelin whether they will bring a PSS replacement any time soon (wouldn't expect them to reveal this info though).
Personally, I wouldn't want to reduce the sidewall size (by using 235/40/18) as the ride quality would deteriorate; on the other hand though, the steering response would improve and the car would accelerate faster since the overall tyre/wheel diameter would decrease (marginally). I'd expect the 235/40 to weigh less than the 245/40 but then again by a couple of hundred grams, if that.
I am not a fan of going a size bigger either as I believe it will make the car feel less nimble.

The PSS replacement is the 4"S"
That shares the same motorsport carcass and is better in pretty much everyway including dry tracks
If you like the PSS the only tyre comparable would be the full fat Ps4"S"
With the non S you get alot of sidewall flex and less turn in & feel.
Have a look at that clip i posted 40 secs in.
with the new gen Michlens
PS3 became PS4
PSS became PS4 "S"
PS Cup became PS Cup 2

What are the cons of going down to this from 245 40 18 ? I've used PSS for the last 38 000 miles on my specC, and can't fault them; I'll buy a spare set now if they are stopping making them.

PS4S only available in 235/40/18 not 245 or 255. You can still buy PSS in the wider sizes.
Compared with 245 section, 235 will give marginally less dry grip with the same tyre (a 235 PS4S will be more grippy than a 245 of almost any other tyre), and the car will be marginally lower-geared.
