I agree

If you suss out the seller, get an HPI done, check the service history and if you're still doubtful do the AA/RAC check then you can do very well.

If you get any 'bad vibes' about the car or seller then go off your gut feelings and walk away.

Savings are there - as mentioned - £10500 instead of £14k+ in my case.

Apparently there are still a lot of punters out there who do not like the new style Imprezas, a guy I know nearly had his arm ripped off for his old style turbo in part ex for a UK300, the dealer offered him silly money for a part ex, but the mark up by the dealer was still 2.5k and he sold it within 7 days

Unhappy

of subject slightly but I went to my local Subaru garage and the best they would offer me on my (at the time) 6 month old VTS was £6000 now that is a joke!! Cost me nearly double that!! I do agree that Subaru Prices are very much OTT

Angry

I own an Impreza and was toying with the idea of changing (Deep Blue Mica MY00).Extras include, PPP, Prodrive Big Brake Conversion, 18''Prodrive wheels(same as P1 except in silver), Leather seats, armourfended etc only 5,000 miles totally immaculate.
But judging by what people are being offered at the dealerships in part/ex I don't think I will bother.
Rasher.

Rasher - I'll buy it off you in a couple of months.

SaxoBoy - £4800, that is scandalous, you should have put the salesman on the spot and asked why you should ever buy a Citroen again if they depreciate like that. Mind you, you usually get screwed by dealers if doing a straight sell rather than a PX.

Your telling me! That £4.8k offer was 1 month ago and I sold it last night privately for £7550 and if I'd really stuck to my guns might have been able to work another £100 or so out the guy. £7.5 I thought was not bad for a car that depreciates as bad as a VTS considering I paid £10800 for it new 16 months ago with 1 year free insurance which saved me £1500 straight away and has allowed my the option of buying a scooby.

By the fact that the cars havent nosed dived in price with the introduction of the new shape surely that must tell you something. The classic shape won so many accolades and mag group tests it no wonder it a well respected car in the trade. Only the enthuisasts knew about them in the mid nineties and were a closely guarded secret but the word is out and now have a huge reputation and have become a performance yardstick.

The very fact people will pay 16K for an MY00 rather than importing an MY02 for 16K has to say something.

Ive just about to do that - an MY00 DBM for £15k. Admittedly its like new and has less than 5k on the clock but I bought it (rather than a WRX for £17k new) becuase IMHO it incorporates everything I loved when I first saw an Impreza. The WRX is too refined for me - both visually and mechanically.

I agree
Going from my V6 diesel Audi (185bhp) I test drove a used 01 WRX and to be honest it felt no faster once on the move.

I then drove a 99MY and decided to forgive some extra noise and lack of refinement (its not that bad) for the sheer fun it delivers.

Just had a look on the Subaru site, seems there's shed loads of <MY00 cars up for sale
I remember when I bought mine I was ages trying to find the car I wanted, strange thing is that they seem to be the same money for the same year/milage car that I paid for mine last May
