My tinted rear light mod..!!! thoughts
#62
someone did post what they looked like on a black car dont know if this any use..... but it did look good..!!!
You could do them blue, but dont know how this would look, it would probably need to be the same blue as your car for it to look good..
Good luck
Dan

OK I've taken the plunge, went into town and bought a can and given it a bash... still waiting for them to dry properly before taking off the masking tape but already it appears it's gonna look the business .
Pics to follow once it's all done (probably tomorrow cos I'm going out on the **** soon). Cheers for the tip Dan, doubt there's many mods that make such a difference to the looks for £13!

One (rather crappy) pic for now, definitely looks good IMO
Might need to darken them a bit though, can't really tell in the pic but you can still see a bit of orange from some angles if you look closely. The light shines through as good as it did before tinting though.

could you not get the light clusters off the car to do this. cos i carried out this mod on a saxo and it was so much easier with the clusters off.

Probably more hassle from what I've heard. Not difficult to do with the clusters in place, took me 10 mins to mask off both lights plus you'd need to mask off the red part and reverse light part anyway.
Ended up giving it a few more coats because I could still see the orange when the car was parked in the sun. Looks spot-on now, indicator still shows through bright orange as it should but when off it looks like a factory cluster like the STi except darkened instead of clear.
I'll try and get some decent pics tomorrow.

OK finally got a decent pic! Nice and dark looking, can still see a tiny bit of orange when the sun is shining right on the light (you can see it on the left hand light in the pic) but still looks good even so and any darker the indicator probably wouldn't show through properly.
Definitely looks better than the standard orange IMO. Right up there with the clear STi lights!

I deffo agree with Paul.... I reckon it looks excellent, don't know why no-one hasn't manufactured any like that yet....
What rear bumper is that you've got Paul?? Certainly not standard

Cheers mate... dunno what the rear bumper is TBH! I reckon it's a WRC style like that fitted to the 22B (obviously not the exact same since mine is a 4-door without flared arches). It was on the car when I bought it, likewise with the adjustable WRC rear wing.

This so much cheaper for a diff rear look than buying STI lights.
I'm gonna do my front indecators too. are they easy to remove? looks like to much hassel to try an mask round em if your not that confident in your masking ability.

At the time i had not had the car long and couldnt be bothered to work out how to take them out, but know ive had the car a bit i know where your coming from, in that they are easy to take out...
I would still have the mask them off if they where off the car anyway so i thought i would just leave them on....

ScoobyJawa has done this with red Tint and I have to say it looks as good as black, but Imho red looks better than black on a silver car no Offence Dan, You tried red 1st didnt you? Altho I think SoccobyJawa had some orance bulbs to install too.

I noticed from the pics on page one Dan that the red you sprayed on looked very much redder on the overspray on the paper compared to the stuff I used, did use use FoliaTek or some other make?

Def. one for the front - takes about 5 seconds an indicator
The best thing I found for masking the back was to use bin bags and they stick magically to the car Although obviously I masked down the edges too
I used masking tape on the reversing lights and cut around the edge with a craft knife - not a bit was on the clear at the end Very easy
Thanks for the idea Mr Horwich! Makes the car look 1000 times better for £14 (I didn't go ultra-dark, but it still looks )
Pic of the front:
Pic of the back: (not great sorry )
