Vauxhall Chevette ES - on a Y plate...

Lovely light blue - who needs a passenger side wing mirror or sunvisors any way?

The hours spent polishing and porting the heads for minimal gain...

Took it down to Nice once, was blowing the head gasket slightly, so taped up all the air vents except the side vents, pulled them out so they could vent straight out the front window on each side..
Heater on full blast all the way!

Cruised at 75 mph for 8 hours in complete comfort...

848cc mini (1965) was mine. Red with requisite black roof.

It's been stored in my mums garage for 10 years now, have finally bit the bullet and have a bloke coming to pick it up on Saturday. It's getting professionally restored then will be shipped over & sold in the USA.

Cool

A beautiful 895cc VW Polo L, in yellow (or mainly yellow, quite a lot of it was rust-brown or filler-grey). It cost a huge £250 but for 3 years without too many problems. In latter months it needed a push start (yes, every time...) so you had to be careful not to stop for petrol where you couldn't a run-up out of the forecourt!
That was my first car actually owned, but I had long-term borrowed a Yugo 45 before that - another ideal motorway cruiser (it felt like it was going to explode above 65mph).
Also had a wonderful Citroen C5 van (yes, with a mattress classily kept in the back). It looked ****e, but it would easily do 85mph (sometimes down Kensington High St..) and could carry 10 mates at a push (although braking was a bit dodgy with a load like that).

Mine was a 1985 B-reg Lada Estate bought for me by my Dad in 1990 just after I passed my test. It was a 1500cc, 4-speed, knackered valve stem oil seals, did about 25mpg and 500-1000 miles per litre of oil, top speed 112mph indicated on the A1. Best of all it was bright yellow with a brown vinyl roof, and it was called the 'Yellow Peril'. Driving that around I soon discovered who my mates were, those that weren't mates refused to be seen in it. Deal was look after the Lada and he'd buy me a proper car, and so he did 4 months later.

Vauxhall Astra Mk 2 (Reg. 1985) 5 Dr. Hatchback. 0-60 in 11 Seconds - 1.3 Standard Engine - Exhaust louder than my scoob, ICE louder than my scoob, Fixings rattling lounder than my scoob, hit JungleLightSpeed @ 115mph (on a disused airfield) - i would still proberbly have it if it didn't cost £1500 to get through the MoT (welding mainly) and I thought bugger it and got a scoob.

As most of my mates always said, how the hell it never blew up was a mystery my usual driving (Everyday! i would not treat the scoob anywhere near like this) 0-35mph in 1st, 35-60 in 2nd, 60-90 in 3rd, 90+ in 4th!!!! (only 4 gears)

Those engines seemed to love taking abuse

P.S. It never had a rev-counter so I assume I must have been on the limit most of the time.

Beige Mk2 Escort 4 door with 58000 miles on it and about 10 different owners - spray painted all the chrome bits on it matt black to make it look sportier!!!! Fitted loads of RS bits to it plus a rather loud exhaust - Sad but Great fun!!

Finally sold it when the mileage got to around 125000;( and bought a Mexico - the bug had started!

How embarrasing, a Fiat Niki was my first car ( can it be called a car?? ) 0-60 mph, well it was the first car Wheels magazine ever tested that couldnt get to 60 Mph...... I ROTFL every time I think about it but it got me to uni and back for 8 months.... cheap to run too. rumours were it had a staggering 30Kw ( 40 hp )...

MK5 Escort 1.4LX, with shedloads of bass supplied by an 18inch sub - i was mad!! Thraped it to buggery, surprised it lasted 8months, till it met an untimely death into the side of my friend at 60mph down a country lane on a (CORNER)...

He decided it would be a good place to handbrake, with me following !! Ahh well all good fun!!!

Editted to remove shat spelling...

Andy
