Yay or nay??

i know they do. But they also have £10K worth of dampers to control it all, plus the rubber used is very diferent. On a road car, on road tyres it's a backwards step in terms of handling. Oh yeh, they also use magnesium, just a tad lighter than aluminium!

Is there that much handling difference between 17" and 18" wheels??? I know the car can ride a little firmer due to the reduction in sidewall.. but what else??
I know Ive heard Pete Croneys car on 18"s handles pretty damn well....As does mine I believe...

Can't figure out why you would ask anyone else - it is your car and anything like that is subjective. I have the same wheels in gold on my car...

There are two issues with running Bigger wheels on the road. First of all, bigger wheels usually means more weight, more weight is bad for damping and can screw up your wheel rates leading to poor handling on less smooth roads in particular.
The other is tyres, a lower profile tyre offers less mechanical grip on a rough surface. I would say on 90% of UK road surfaces that is going to lose you performance. On track, its a help though.
Like most things car related, there is no right or wrong answer, just shades of grey and a lot is very much based on the aplication you are putting the car to.
Thats why if you look at a rally car, on the gravel they use 15" wheels and 80 profile tyres, yet places like catalunya with very smooth tarmac they run 18" wheels with 30 profile tyres. Incidently the reason they run 18" on rallies is to get the big brakes in, not so much to get tyre performance.
IMHO 17" is a better size on the road, 18" is better on track when you take daily use, comfort and grip as your main criteria.

Yeah but 18 look better, i'm just not a great fan of the standerd wheels. They are starting to pitter in some corners!
I want to take them off and use them for the winter, and a real nice shiney set for summer.
The white ones are lightweight speedlines so shouldnt weight much more than the 17's I have on.
And mike.. gold?? Urghhh.

Crypt, they look damn fine to me. I certainly understand John's arguments, but ultimately it's your dosh that gets laid out, and you gotta do what you think is best.
Post some pics once you get it all sorted!

Crypt,
Just imagine white on white - almost as bad as white on yellow.... Silver would have looked too bland, so I thought that Gold was best for a white car... See - it's all subjective, one man's poison and all that!
LOL

Crypt, I am probably going to go for white rims on my yellow V soon. I would like to do it now but getting a new ECU and that fitted today so can't really afford it..... I too was looking at getting some of them white Speedlines in 18"..... I think white rims will look good on the yellow'un mate..... Go for it!
