Cool

Phil,
I would suggest you learn to read or get some new glasses - how difficult is it for you to spot the MPH beside it? If I flick it to Km/h it shows 300...

Unhappy

Mike,

You should know me better than that. To be honest, I couldn't give a crap what the exact speed was, mathematical equations bore me sh1tless and to be honest, I'd rather be talking pub stuff than sit in a dark room making wheel-size calibations and rev increment multiplications.

I'm annoyed that some have gone out of their way to prove me wrong when all I've done is provided a little light entertainment at no-ones expense.

Does anyone care? Seeing near 180 on my clock was pretty impressive enough for me, but obviously not for some.

Oh, and a because it makes it all OK.

Blowdog,
1st I wasn't sat in a darkened room, I posted at lunchtime in work.
The internet is free then. This is costing me money now.

2nd the single hand on the wheel was a reference to this post of mine (the picture showed 140mph on the clock , taken by the driver, me, but the uploader mustn't work now)
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=19357

I don't carry passengers as they slow you down.

You may notice that when people took the **** out of me/my picture, I didn't get at all upset, (quote'I'm annoyed that someone has gone out of their way etc)unlike yourself, but actually confirmed for them the inaccuraccy of the cars actual speed.

You never stated your car was travelling at any given speed, just that the speedo was indicating a the speed shown. No lie there then. So no need to 'dissprove' you.

The picture is proof of what YOU SAW, no question.

Just like you when you saw 175MPH+, when I saw 140MPH in my XR2, I was chuffed to bits, but was sceptical enough to attempt to calculate/prove wether it was genuine.

I posted my picture for a little light relief also.

For reasons known only to yourselve, you seem to respond to incidents or posts involving myself in less than a friendly way.

I have never tried to antagonise you personally (we were sat next to each other at the drivers briefing on November 4th 2001, I was the 6'3" bloke next to you)or publically on here.

If I go down to Donnington on the 7Th July, I will look you up, and we can have a chat.

You can take the **** out of my driving/looks/lack of wealth/car/etc and I promise not to get upset.

But if I give you some back, please take it it the manner it is intended, and don't be offended.

No smilies, so read this post as its written , not how you think it is written. If I want to offend/belittle anybody they would be in no doubt at all of my viewpoint.

Edited to say,

Mike Rainbird, thats pretty impressive.
For all the sad b*stards out their sat in their darkened rooms, and for your interest Mike, if you do pull 7K in top you will be doing a genuine 190.25213 MPH approx.
But I bet you already knew that.
But a genuine 186MPH is still ok, I suppose.

Mike Costin/Keith Duckworth rule ok.

Cheers MTR

Good old Scoobynet!

Flame someone for saying something, posting a pic or having a laugh!

and apparantly adding a smilie means you can say what you want, and call people what you want!

I think a lot of people need to get out more, and learn a few social skills.

MTR,
Your post is truly confusing. Your attempts to remind yourself to me by your height notwithstanding, pelase indicate instances where I have:

"seemed to respond to incidents or posts involving myself in less than a friendly way."

I haven't posted on this forum in months.

Like I said, what was so wrong in taking the given speedo rating for what it was, as opposed to trying to prove how wrong it was? It's not very sporting and reeks of sour grapes.

Cem,

My comments were just to say, that your speedo reading is right if the calculations that MTR made are correct.

Some people will take anything out of context!

Hope you're keeping well!

Tangent alert.

Please enjoy the full video of the recent trip to Germany.
It's 60MB and needs Quicktime 5 to play. It will be better if you right clicked and select 'Save Target As'.

ID / Cem,
Perhaps I am missing some "history" between Cem and MTR, but I didn't realise that making a factual statement was flaming someone. I didn't see any malice in MTR's post and there was definitely none intended in mine.

I just personally cannot stand any "pub talk" figures that are substantiated in fiction and not fact, as it perpetuates the bollocks that the magazines tend to spout off, which then gets regurgitated by the "**** down the pub" claiming that you can get an extra 100bhp from an exhaust and filter and that his XR2 does 140mph (that is a joke MTR before YOU get offended) !

Some of us like to deal purely in factual occurences to prevent this from happening. Sadly, I am one of those people - perhaps it is the dark room I spend all my days and nights locked away in, only to come out with my brown anorack and clip-board to do some train spotting at weekends!

Chill peeps, I don't think anyone intended to upset anyone else. Incidentally Cem, your Skyline is in the prettiest colour and sounds absolutely gorgeous. If I wasn't so smitten by what you can do to Cossies, I would have one. Trouble is I would end up living in a caravan , as there is just so much you can do to a Skyline and the only limit is how much you want to spend, and I know I would get carried away !

Cems car next to some fast ones at karting last year (where the Cossie boys kicked **** for the second year running)

LOL @ all this...

Cem, as we all know, appears to have a delecate ego

Mate, you post a picture of an indicated 180+ mph. Some one questions the actual speed vs Revs and you post,

Ooh, the voices of doubt

Cem

No one is doubting what your speedo read. Hell,I had an indicated 125 mph from a Rav 4 the other day which was still accelerating. Clearly it wasn't really going this fast.

This BBS is frequented largely by the kind of people who are interested in how fast you were actually going. 160 mph is still pretty impressive.

If it upsets or annoys you that someone worked out the actual speed, I can only conclude you were trying to decieve in the first place and got caught out

Of course if it was just a laugh, then you would have no issue with anyone going "out of their way to prove me wrong when all I've done is provided a little light entertainment at no-ones expense" , not that that actually appears to be the case.

It certainly reads like you got the hump

There's enough bullsh*t on the BBs these days without people getting all precious

The way I see it, is cem in the course of some fun driving saw an indicated 180 mph on his speedo and just wanted to share the delight in what is probably an event that few of us will ever see.

It wasnt a "look how fast I can go, I am better than you" picture, just a wow 180mph on the speedo.

I can see why cem got annoyed by someone bursting his bubble for no reason other than because they like to calculate things and state facts.

In this situation, why not start a thread that says "look, if you do an indicated 180mph in a skyline at 6.5k revs, you are actually doing 167mph".

The fact is Cem's post was not in the vane of someone showing off at how good they are, just someone who was pleased with something they have bougth that they love. With this in mind it didnt need a deflating factual attack to take his fun away.

Cem has shown us his enjoyment for taking photos and telling stories about cars on his website for years. You even saw his video which he put together for the benefit of others, the same motive behind his whole site. No where will you see bragging, or technical knowledge because that is not what he is about. I can understand if MTR didnt know that this was what he is like, but he has admitted to having known cem on the internet for years.

I did think it was funny that mtr must be recognisible by being 6 ft 3 though. 6 ft 3 is practically the average height these days.

Which at 5ft 8 (in the mornings) makes serious below par.

Well said Adam.

Had been trying to put this into words for a little while and your post has covered most of it fairly.

Diablo: As a user of this board I am sure you are entitled to your opinion like everyone else but, as a "moderator" saying "can only conclude you were trying to decieve in the first place and got caught out" I find it a bit dissappointing.
How can we expect people to play nicely together when one of our "guardians" is virtually accusing another user of lying? Aren't you supposed to be setting some sort of example to the rest of us?

I'm not one to get out of my pram normally with threads like these that seem to go sadly sour but this has really bugged me this morning.

Alex.

Last thing this BBS needs is for BLOWDOG to cease posting his imput, videos, pictures etc..

I think the last few posts have really summed up what is happening on scoobynet these day. I am extremely glad that some people who continue to post on this bbs can see this sort of one-up-man-ship is taking place. I for one get extremely angry with people slating other peoples achievments, prides and joys and any other marques that may appear on here, on numerous occasions people post pictures of their cars only to have some mindless person come along and put them down. What do you achieve in doing this? I am also particulary angry at the way this thread has gone as Cem is a friend of mine, he is one of the most enthusiastic car owners out their and he does everything he can to share the enjoyment he gets out of cars with others.

I think what I am trying to say is that some people need to grow up, if someone has a nice car appreciate it and not slate it.

You think that Cem's ego was dented?? ROTFLMAO you are soo wrong, can you not see that it's your ego that has been dented by this pic? No? Exactly my point!!!!

Ok, I've just read this thread all the way through and (for some reason) felt compelled to reply.

I personally know none of you from this board, however I have been visiting Cem's website for some time now. It would appear to me that the original post was put up simply for enjoyment - presumably not to start a in-depth discussion about actual mph/revs/etc.

Surely people can take note of a post and reply without excessive negativity (unless justified). Why resort to "my dad's harder than yours" type responses.

It's surprises me that a forum which I would assume would have a certain level of maturity can degenerate into this sort of pointless banter.

Before I shut up and bugger off again I'll point out that I'm not directing this reponse at anyone in particular, just airing my opinion.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh - see it is being perpetuated, as there are now people that have seen Cem's fantastic video and camera footage and take the reading as gospel... Personally, I think Cem is as sound as a pound, but people please keep it real...

And Cem, more photos please, especially some of the gauges showing some boost / cornering graphs....

POC,
All I can say is Did it go bang? CraigH's did after holding those revs You're an absolute hat-stand! See that red bit, don't go in there in fifth...
