Mike, I don't think Cem (or in fact anyone) is taking the reading to be gospel. They are just appreciating that it is cool to have a performance car with the speedo needle nearly all the way off the clock.
Who cares what the exact speed is in this instance, as it's not a speed trial, it was just a laugh.
If we want exact speeds, then the '10 of the best' day arranged by the 200plus club should offer some pretty accurate figures. Although not for Subarus, as it appears they are too chicken to turn up.

I don't understand, maybe because I don't take life as seriously as you guy's.
I sometimes wonder why I bother on this board. Why post anything on a public bbs if you don't want people's views on it?? What's wrong with people being subjective?
Might I suggest in future you should post pic's or whatever somewhere where people cannot comment on it if you don't like people questioning you? So what someone did a little math?
Sorry, no disrespect intended mr blowdog, but i just don't understand where your coming from.
Oh and a smile

cryptwakl,
i think you have missed the point. along with mike r!
cem posted the picture for fun and to invite comments, he can accept criticism too, but the spirit of the post should was not intended to invoke an argument.
Its like him putting up a post saying, hey everyone, I have just won a holiday to california,
and then a reply like "nice, but shame it wasnt mexico cos its hotter there!"
It simply was not intended to evoke an argument.
Cem is pissed off that people turn everything into a fight. It makes posting tiresome,a nd I can see his point.
personally I wouldnt even bother to post teh piccie in the first place, but that is the difference between our natures. Its the same reason he runs his website, whereas I dont bother sharing the things I appreciate!

Why share news, views, pics, stats or whatever if you don't want peoples input?
I have no doubt cem is a nice carefree sort of bloke who is a pure enthusiast, but i'm sure he likes to wind people up.

Crypt,
Japanese plastic all looks the same to me... So what is the difference, they're both s h i t e ?!
And before all the politicly correct people jump on me, my tongue was firmly in cheek In fact if my arm was twisted enough, I would actually admit that an Evo VI RSX with Ralliart Extreme mods (AP 6-pots front / and twin pots rear, Super-drager exhaust, 18s, Ralliart ECU upgrade (340bhp), HKS filter, Ralliart springs etc) was THE nicest car I have ever driven. The steering was so direct that it felt you could change direction by swilling tea from one side of your mouth to another - that would be the 1.6 turns lock to lock then ! However, you would never hear me admit that in public...

actually I dont think he does liek to wind people up. I think he likes to make people happy.
I like to wind people up so I can see your point of view.
the argument was the "everyone look at this" then the "you are talking bollocks!"
and then for diablo to affectively accuse cem of trying to mislead people. personally I dont think he gave a damn what speed he was doing.
it is futile for me to try to explain it but I will say one last thing.
did you ever just tell someone something in the past, and really not want to discuss, just share it with them?
you know when you just cannot be bothered to converse on a subject, you just want to proclaim your satisfaction with something. i think that is what this was.
I personally hate that type of post and thrive on this side of it, the argument. But it doesnt stop me from knowing when to shut up and let someone enjoy their moment.

I avoided posting on this as I looked at the piccie, grinned, but felt that my reaction then was enough and didn't feel the need to comment (for once )
However, it is just getting silly now, people are posting up crap and if you aren't careful this thread might get closed and that will be a real shame as the initial post that Cem posted up was fine for the forum.
Some of the posts are just unnecessary and ought to stop before it becomes worthy of the muppet show.
Just my 2p
Michelle.

michelle,
there has been nothing in this thread worthy of throwing it in the muppet forum.
plenty of well constructed arguments thats all.
If this thread was locked it would just highlight my thoughts that a little bit of power has gone to "some" moderators heads.
not pointing any fingers of course! (no smilie on this one)

Would just like to point out
At no point am I saying the arguments aren't well constructed nor am I saying that right now they are worthy.
Assume - Silence of the Lambs
might get closed
before it becomes worthy of the muppet show

That was in his real car Carl..the saff...before he forgot that you go round a roundabout and not over them.......But i think the reason was that Bill was giving him a blow job at the time..and unfortunately the roundabout came at the same time as Mike..

All,
I hadn't intended to reply to this thread anymore, but after so much subjective discussion I thought it would be rude not to.
To those that think I was trying to either deceive or to demonstrate a delicate ego, I truly apologise. I had no intention whatsoever in making this thread into what it's become. Truly.
I am genuinely upset by a lot of the comments made about me and can't begin to understand what compelled people to say them when my input on this forum was utterly passive/innocent.
This is the bottom line:
I had my car off the clock and it made me giggle. A lot. As you can see from the video, it was an incredible trip and one I wanted to share with many others. I don't spend £10,000's of pounds on equipment and infinite man hours on maintaining my biggest hobby to demonstrate my delicate ego. I do it because I know it makes many people happy - at least I assume it does based on the 100's of emails I get from www.blowdog.com. The picture was nothing more than what POC's picture was (lol by the way); just a simple "Hey guys, look what I did!"
If you can gain entertainment from this, then I have succeeded. If not, then I will try harder

Carl,
No that was a picture from my old 515.4bhp / 421.5lbft (engine dyno confirmed) Sapphire. The Escort couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding by comparison and would see no more than 170mph flat out (aerodynamics of a house brick and only 436bhp).
This is because the Escort has a baby turbo on it (T3/4) and has totally different power delivery charcteristics. It makes peak power at 6000 (436bhp), it drops to 433bhp at 6500 and to 415bhp at 7000. However, the torque curve is really s h i t e, it makes peak torque at 4000 (419) and by 7000 has backed off to a measly 305lbft , whereas the big T4 made peak power at 7000 and only dropped 1.5 bhp between 7000 and 7500 . It also made peak torque at 5000 (421.5lb ft) and still had 385lbft at 7k! But then it was laggy as **** by comparison to the Escort. It is all swings and roundabouts when it comes to small engines and different size turbos - what you gain on one hand is lost in another.
Coincidentally, the Escort (with 18s and 225 /40s) has near identical gearing to the Skyline R34, as in it is pulling 162ish mph at 6500 as well (0.82 fifth / 3.62 final drive).
Check the post on this forum of "a proper car" to see the new Stack in the Escort.

What a bloody great video. Lovely cars, nice footage, good editing. I'm v. impressed Mr BD. Soundtrack is nifty but the sound of the cars is just awesome.
Hopefully see you around at some event or other soon mate.

Blinding video I'm doing the same thing in a few months in my P1 and are post a vid and pics........... Don’t really care what people think... posted a pic of 160MPH in Monaco and didn’t get any of this sh$te, it was probably 165-170 cos it kept pulling another 700revs up to and past 8000revs.
Have to say I have enjoyed reading the entire thread.
Cem I only live a couple of miles away in NW7 and seen you v. briefly with Adam would look forward to meeting you properly.
All the objective points viewed on this thread are fine and that’s what I thought the BBS was all about.
Anyway BLOWDOG love the motor and your attitude and don't let any of that nonsense bother you!!
