Hi Folks,
The fact that a higly tuned Nova can be faster than the scooby on a 1/4 mile run doesn't surprise me too much. I built a 1.8 litre n/a Nova many years ago based on the origional Nova Blitz built by Gunter Artz in Germany. It was a seriously quick car in a straight line with about 125 bhp ..... Then as Vauxhall brought out the 2 litre Astra so I modded again. Final spec before I binned it was 2 litre 16v with motronic fuel injection running 150 bhp at the wheels (maybe 175 bhp at the flywheel ?) giving 35 mpg average and 0 -60 in 6 seconds without an LSD. This is in a car with a weight of only 750 kg , that's why they go so well ! I had load's of fun building and driving my Nova and things have moved on soo much since I had mine. There's a contractor at work who's spent a huge amount of money on his Nova , steel crank,SBD throttle bodies, etc,etc and he's claiming approx 300 bhp at 9000 r.p.m. .... . And he's just about to fit nitrous !!! I know there's a Nova in my area running Calibra turbo engine + 4x4 transmission so that should in theory be also pretty quick. The thing is , there's plenty of car enthusiusts out there, a lot of them very profficient at modifying their cars ,they're just not always Scooby's. IMHO all credit to anyone who get's good results no matter what they drive, it's what makes life interesting .
Regards,
John
