Our mole trap works by breaking the mole's neck, it's comprised of two sprung loaded jaws which release when the mole walks through it.
The ultrasonic mole repeller really made no difference at all in our garden. We tried it in various places but still the moles persisted.![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

Sorry to hear about the GP.. We used to keep these as kids and had anything up to 25 roaming the back garden.. At that time we had two large dominant males who 'no ****' used to chase the local cats off... They'd puff themselves right out and rattling their teeth would jump up and down and then make little dashes forward.. Kind of admired them for that as it was pure bluff.. Great little animals.. I was bittem by a mole so I know where my sympathies lie!! KILL IT

apparently the shock was the thing that did it, the vet said that the bite from a mole is as powerfull as a rotweiler (on a pro rata basis allowing for the size difference) so they can be quite nasty if they want to.
i always thought they were timid and scared of other animals- like mice?

Sorry to hear about your guinea pig. I had a hamster with the same name - Turbo. ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Moles are vicious little creatures and can serious bite anything that attacks it.
What sort of run do you have? Is it a hutch and triangular run or a self-made one?
The best thing to do would be to either move them into a shed or garage at night or if that is not possible, to wire the bottom of the run with wire - not sure what it is called, but it is not as flimsy as chicken wire. The holes are more rectangular and fairly narrow, as opposed to the hexagonal holes of chicken wire.
Does the guinea pig live in a hutch at night or does it have free reign in the run?

You will always get the idiots on the boards as well as the nice ones, its a pity we can not filter them out, i think they have days of school so get fed up.
I like animals they don't answer back and love you unconditional,
Best of luck with your problem.
Just an idea what about covering the pen with a rain proof cloth and it also hides the animals.

hehe, must be a trend amongst car nuts..
My cat's name.......... Turbo.
(Tho, in my defence of not being totally sad, we had him from the RSPCA, and on the day we went to collect him asked if he had a name, the girl looked through the paperwork and found someone had written "turbo" in the corner on one form, so we called him that. Suits his personality, he's a mad little bugger!)

Sorry to hear that.
We've got two pigs - Branston and Pickle.
Are you going to get another one to keep the one left company?
Steve
PS Our pigs play with our cats - the older cat cleans them!

if your trying to be funny...your not.
and turbo was scared to death- he suffered a number of bites and scratches and the subqequent fluid loss lead to shock.
he was not wimmpy either- its the equivilent of you being attacked by an animal the size of a shetland pony with teeth that are razor sharp.. im sure you wouldnt be so quick to make light of it if you meet something like that![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Hmmm....anyway...
Guinea pigs live with rabbits quite well. How old is DumpValve? If you get him a female rabbit, there will be less competition be be Main Animal. A friend of mine happily keeps GPs and Rabbits together.
Had 17 rabbits at one point...Started with just one called Psycho...was going to get her a friend and call it Alysis, but unfortunately she died of heatstroke that summer.

Whats with the Guinea Pigs ?
I thought that people just got them to get their kids head round the whole death thing as the life span of a Guinea Pig cared for by a six year old is measured in hours, my mates daughter bathed hers in rainwater collecting on her climbing frame and it proved to much for the poor little sod, et voila, little Sally knows all about the Grim Reaper !
My introduction to motality was via a Hamster called frisky but the little F*cker shouldnt of bit me, really he shouldnt.

Mike, are you trying to be a p*** or are you just naturally callous and insensitive? [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]
Lets see you up against a fight trained pit bull and see who is the wimp.
That would be on a par with the size ratio of GP to mole.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Not that in anyway do I agree with having dogs for such macho reasons, but was the only example I could think of at the time.

Sorry to hear about your guinea pig - we had a baby rabbit that sadly died - it stopped eating but there are a hundred and one things that could have caused it to stop eating, such as a shock (apparently hearing a dog bark can sometimes be enough) and we have no idea what it was.
I know how you must feel - we were devastated, but we are bouncing back and will be picking up a pair of bunnies (two sisters) in a few weeks from the Blue Cross.

dsmith,
if you had however, stuck a stick up said dogs *** then you would find it a darn more sight effective than RB170's pulling its legs apart. that does not work RB170. sticking ones thumb up a dogs anus does work. the shock of the action should give you enough time to incapacitate the dog properly. failing that wrap a coat around your arm and entice the dog to bite this - rather than your throat - once it has a grip put the boot into its exposed underside (if it's a male canine - go for the *********
)
anyhow i'm not sure how this relates to poor STi's dilema. i hope you manage to sort this pesky mole out - hopefully it hasn't got a taste for gp's blood

i am fed up with ppl calling my deceased pet wimppy- perhaps if i tell you how he got his name- turbo- you will change your mind.
when we first got him he was called momo, then one day i was watching him from inside the house, a baby bird had fallen from a tree and was hopping around near his run (its about 8ft long) just then a magpie flew down and starting pecking at the little bird- momo charged at the wire between him and the bird and scared the magpie off- the bird came back so he did it again, i dont know i he did it cause he hates magpies or if he was protecting the little bird but either way it was a very brave thing for a pig to do and his turn of speed earnt him a name change!

The thing to do with a dog (trained pitbull or not) that attacks you when you are unarmed or without a scoob/tank to squash it, is to actually stick out your arm (not your strongest arm) and let the mutt stick its teeth into that. May sound a bit stupid, but dogs will attack the thing that is in front of them or your neck! Me? I'd prefer to have a chewed arm than a chewed neck/head/face. Whilst dog is attached to your arm, you then batter ten types out of it with your other hand - hard bashes to the nose are good, eyes gouged, kicks to genitals etc , but don't try to pull your arm away as that will cause more damage than just leaving it there.
Its not something I particularly want to have to put into practice, but if some dog goes for me/family it will get a rude shock.
In fact pitbulls are easier to deal with as they are designed/bred to bite and hold onto what ever it is they're attached to & wear their opponent down until they win. That is why they have such thick necks & neck muscles. They are also incredibly stupid & will not let go whatever damage you inflict on them. Better one on your arm, than your neck...

errr, if people want to make jokes shouldnt they do it on their own thread.
it seems that jumping on this bloke thread and using it as a platform to try out your standup routine is a bit harsh to say the least.
mods,
im sure this animal meant as much to this bloke as many peoples cars and if someone took the pi55 out of someone who'd had a crash and lost their car then they'd be in troub.
perhaps its time to knock this thread on the head?
