If anyone is at Hullavington tomorrow I would be more than happy to show how comprehensively an M3 beats a Scooby.

Still as you know I am more than happy to take your 500bhp fire breathing 22B on with my lowly M3 as long as it is you driving

Question

Droid 42

My points have every bit as much a point as any of the other biased views on here, including yours buddy.

We ran perhaps 300yds nose to tail before the track was clear and then went for it (both of us). I don't think the M3 owner would have been complaining at lunch time if he had been on a slowing down lap, do you?

Anyway, and in the interest of avoiding the my *****'s bigger than yours stuff, ( it is )perhaps the gap at the bottom of the hill could be due to different braking points, but more important here is the fact that the M3 didn't clear off as it is being suggested it should have . The performance is pretty similar and the rest comes down to personal preference. Once again I will say that I would have an M3 if I could afford a £40+++K car, not as a substitute to the P1 but as an additional car. Unlike CraigH I think they do look good, but I agree don't think they are worth £25k (otr) more than my existing fun car. Comparing apples and pears.

PS jjr whatever I'm at Silverstone GP next - an M3 friendly track if ever there was one. I get bored driving up and down runways .

Fat Boy,

Silverstone would be cool but it is a bit boring. Donington would be even more convenient if you are ever up there cos it means when my tyres are knackered I can get home.

Silverstone also rubs salt in the wounds as I was due to go there last week to drive a couple of GT3 race cars and one was involved in a big off recently, so no drive

Agreed, Donington is my favourite track too

At the afore-mentioned Brands GP day had the pleasure of a half hour drive in the Top Cats Racing Porsche Supercup car (hi Charlotte, & come on Rob in the Tuscans) effing superb and not that expensive to buy ( £25k for a 3 year old one, £50k for a good one year old). Maybe I should sell the P1 and get one.

Can you get towbars for M3's

cheers

would love to have a GT3 especially a race one. Ours belonged to some guy we sponsored who agreed to let us try his two cars. **** wrote one off on the first lap and is still rebuilding it !!

As for tow bars for M3's I think not......and even if they did I would sooner die than stick one on........and if I really had to have one, even though I would be dead, it would be for a Caterham R500 (or R300 if I was feeling skint from numerous engine rebuilds)

I don't think it really matters about speed because the M3 came 2nd in EVO COTY to a 290k supercar, beating along its way a TVR, Lambo etc etc

There is a whole lot of dodgy Physics going on here.

Weight- This only affects acceleration IF (and this is the key point) there is enough power to beat the aerodynamic drag. Clearly to beat an amount of drag X will requre amount of power P, regardless of the weight.

Therefore a 20 tonne Scoob with 300bhp will reach a higher top speed than a 1 tonne Scoob with 280bhp, because drag will stop the lighter car from accelerating first.

The 20 tonne Scoob would not reach the same top speed as the 1 tonne Scoob.

I'll give you 3 guesses ...

Ian.

My points have every bit as much a point as any of the other biased views on here, including yours buddy.

That's not entirely fair is it? Your "point" seems to be based on one experience on the track that, with different drivers and a not-so-unbiased view of the result, counts for nothing (no offence).

You don't seem to have paid attention to my own track experiences and come to the simple conclusion that real-life experiences between different drivers don't prove a single thing.

That's why I said that the only way to really determine the relative straight-line performance of two different cars is to look up a range of road test results.

That's my only point and, if there's anything wrong with that, let me know

I wish. The crick in my neck from the M3's acceleration stops me playing golf these days

Interesting thread . . . .

Placed my deposit on the M3 CSL yesterday, though I am sure regret this act of madness. Evo COTY 2003, maybe.

enjoy driving chaps.

Interesting thread...keep it up!

Right, here are *my* experiences and opinions...

Only twice in my entire scooby ownership have I ever met an M3 at the lights...1st it was an old old skool (e26?) M3 - in the rain - he wheel spun like a byach! Not even worth mentioning as he was way back when I'd hit 30mph!

Second time was with an e36, again at the lights, I didn't get a great start, but by the time I was changing up to second I was about a car's length infront - when I'd hit 60 - maybe 2 car lengths infront, but then I slammed my brakes because there was a gatso coming up - he shot past me and I'm not sure if he got flashed (was in daylight).

These are just personal experiences I thought I'd bring to the table.

Looks like a proper d1ck extension which has gotta be good

Craig

Pumped up 3 series etc..

BTW My wife would be horrified if I acquired a dick extension as it's already almost too much for . I am sorry to hear about your problem however

Droid, I care as much about your track experiences as you do about mine.As for magazine figures , the're all different so which one is the empirical one? The cars are pretty similar in performance terms , you like yours, I like mine ( I've even said i liked yours)all the rest of this is Madam Palm and her 5 daughters territory.

jjr bad luck m8

FB

PS how does one get a deposit put down on the CSL? I assume you'd have to be pretty quick with your towel.

Fat Boy,

Some women are more easily pleased, as in your case

Pumped up 3 series - that's about right isn't it? doesn't mean i don't like the look - I actually love the look of them - nice and subtle brawn, rather than the "look at me" Scoob type all mouth no trouser thing

At least I am able to please women and am happy with my trouser department, unlike yourself

All mouth and no trousers?? I'm not the one advertising a vacancy in the love truncheon dept on the net.

If you're not careful Adam will soon be organising a carbon fibre replacement for your missing length. The sort of in-depth hands on approach that he is rightly famous for.

I agree the M3 is nice and Q car ish. I would hate something bright orange, with a big wing on the back, for example .
