P1 V M3 (E46)

Never mind the M3, my neighbour has got an Alpina B3 3.3 - almost exact same as M3, but even more exclusive, cost 40K new but you can pick a 00W with 40k miles for @ £25,000 from a main dealer. If I could afford that then it would be in my garage any day over the Scoob.

I've never seen the point of the B3 3.3 to be quite honest. It's more expensive and less performant than the M3. chrisp would have a fit
Ian.

Thought I'd better stick my two penneth in.
Having raced a new shape M3 in my standard P1, I would say the following :-
Up to 60 the P1 is faster (by about a cars length).
After that the M3 is much faster (beat me to 100 by about 1 1/2 car lengths).
A lot of people would prefer an M3 for the 'I'm in a BM' factor. Personnaly I don't agree with this. I much prefer the real, non pretensious people who have scoobs.
You've also got to bear in mind the fun vs comfort factor.
In my opinion the top two cars for fun, have to be the P1 and the EVO6.
Bearing in mind my P1 in completely un-moded, and I could do a load more to it, I will defintely keep mine (assuming the bank dosen't forclose on me in the meantime).

At the end of the day the M3 is all about class. Something the P1 has not got despite its prodigious performance.
People above a certain stature in society would not be seen as P1 owners. Sorry to say it, but it is true. Same goes for the M3 but at a higher level.

The figures were supplied by you ie 1 second to 100 quicker not a lot is it for the extra
Chris,
My comment was directed at your assumption that the M3 would be slower in the wet. As I said, it's obvious you've never driven one (least of all in the wet).
Re: the discussion about price ... it's irrelevant saying that a 20k second-hand car is better bang-for-the-buck value for money than a brand-new 40k car. I could argue that a 5-year old E36 M3 Evolution for £15k would be preferable to the £20k P1 because it's approximately as fast in a straight line ... but that would be a pointless argument (as was yours).
Ian.

Exactly my point. M3 drivers go for the badge / comfort etc
That's possibly the most prejudiced and generalised statement made in this thread yet. Have you got anything to back up that assumption or do you just practice reverse snobbery for fun?
Ian.

On your first point. I didn't say that. You are confusing me chrisp. Different person.
On the second point. If I did, then I'd be driving a D reg shagged Nova with furry dice and a 16 year slapper in the passenger seat.

Chris (not chrisp)
I was replying to chrisp (and not you). That's why I quoted him in the first line. Perhaps I shouldn't have started the post with "Chris" in case others called Chris thought I was talking to them

Who cares anyway.
You test drive whatever, and pick the whatever you think is the best.
Still, find it funny that BM drivers 'lower' themselves to visit this forum.

Why? I'm sure there are many owners of 10-year-old E30 316's who think it would be raising their game to drive even the oldest Impreza Turbo and therefore love visiting this board. It's also possible that other car enthusiasts, regardless of the "brand" of car they drive, might like visiting car forums in general.
You really do have an unhealthy obsession with badge snobbery don't you
Ian.

I'm sorry, just gotta laugh at these pissing contest threads
As someone has already pointed out, someone will always have something bigger, faster or shinier than you so just go with whatever you can afford. Choosing between two differrent cars? test drive em pick the one you like better, it ain't rocket science. Who really cares what other people think? I don't, you're just really not very important to me
Andrew
Currently STi7 owner, would love an Evo 7, M3, 911, 360, diablo

the battle rages....
I would be very dissapointed if I saw an M3 on track and it didn't show up Subaru's.
But some subaru's are more equal than others, so beware.
