I get a 10l 'plastic' can from your local camping shop. Drill a hole in the top fitted with a rubber grommet to take the feed pipe and drill a small hole (1mm) next to it as a vent.

A couple of strap bolts and there you are - £5 water tank installation. It ain't pretty - it ain't clever - but it does the job fine. I had this on my car for a while until I got my mighty fine custom alloy job - which cost 50 times more than my plastic installation and offers no advantages except to look good!

Oh - and you will need a primer pump in the boot - the cheapest Halfords one are crap. There is a certain one that is very good around £13 - this one has a long input pipe on the nose of the pump and a short output on the side. The advantage of this pump is that even if it fails - water can be drawn through it and so the WI system will still work - if not as well as with the pump working!

It is worth noting, that whatever tank you use, really needs to be baffled, or you'd need to make sure that the water is not allowed to get too low.

If it does get low, and you get surge, first you will lose your WI, but it's also unlikely to recover, unless you re-prime the system.

Of course Mark is right - my mighty fine custom alloy job has lovely connectors, a motorsport filler cap, is superbly baffled, is really shiny - Oh and has a low water warning light.

But in the interim the plastic tank got me going

PS Moe - it was at Halfords - same one Pat and Mark use

Thumbs up

Moe, I want one too so if you sort out what it is 'I'll owe you' (said in a shady Robert Deniro accent!)

Trout, do you have any pictures of your tank, where did you get it made? any pics of the pump you mention or a part number?
