This may seem daft, but why don't we put IM under some pressure?
As Topjimo said "we have the people power" why don't we use it, can you imagine if everyone sent IM a e-mail when they got into work every day! (this is only a example to show you the power you have, in no way do I condone this sort of action)
For too long now we have been sucking up to IM, we buy there car and they give us nothing. They will not even acknollage the SIDC.
I am sorry if that is alittle strong, but reading this tread has really got me mad with them.

LOL at Dave and Carolyn.
The problem with this comes when i want to host or even make a video of track action, or host my photos on the net like i always do. The SIDC owning copyright to that isnt acceptable.
I will of course back anything the SIDC comes up with that would limit IM's underhand work at our meets (even though i drive an Import and IM can kiss my *** anyway), but you have to get the balance right. I am sure Pete will work something out, but the owning of my property wont be acceptable to me or many others i believe.

I'm sure Josh will back me up, but for some events (WSB, F1 etc) then the organisers hold overall copyright to all pictures (film/still) taken by anyone. Just to cover themselves or protect against defanatory photos or so they can chose the nice ones for promotional purposes. Happens all the time & I'm sure people here are unaware of it (small print on tickets).

Just set up a big import company, bypass IM, a little extreme perhaps, but I think IM will take notice!
Like someone mentioned before, it really does make importing more attractive to anyone that's going to put their car on a tarmac loop.
Does that M25 count as a track, it's a kinda loop thing....

I know from experience (wanting to put video up on BAR's website, which I do some work on) F1 teams have to arrange special track tiem (FOCA free iirc, one of the conditions is no other F1 cars being there) with which to taken pictures/video of their own car and own the copyright.

Unlike yourself and the majority of upstanding individuals on this board Dave is undoubtedly the kind of reprobate that would fabricate any plausible deception to indulge his own private pleasures. In this case I would suggest the immediate deployment of a minder to smash any cameras in the vicinity
Laudable as these attempts to protect the guilty may be is there yet any clear indication that trackdays actually invalidate warranty.
A definitive statement from IM would be useful, but I think we accept a positive response is unlikely.
Following the Big (IM) Brother is watching idea could Mondail as underwriters not access the UK insurance database? Thereby getting details of declared mods and possibly even details of trackday cover.

Good point about F1 and WSB... WRC is the same I believe.
They may pay you a royalty if they use the footage, but the ticket says its their copyright.
Events where you don't pay to watch, such as Spain, can't enforce this, but I'm sure it was on the Network Q tickets.
Dave LOL, I didn't mean you, but the irony is instantly apparent
And to all you lot that diss'ed "Dave", have you never been having fun somewhere you shouldn't be?

Subaru garages will always do warranty work on modded cars for the revenue and not tell IM.
Edited to add the sums - crank and bearings take about 20 hours. At retail thats £1120. We get paid 14 * 44.80. ie £627.20.
Also if we where caught, and they do 'pop' in from time to time, we would be in deep doh.
Cheers
David

Sorry for joining late, but I've been away.
I'm sorry Pete, but trying to assume Copyright on any photographs taken at an event, SIDC or otherwise, is simply not workable. If the Premier League couldn't find a way to do it, I don't think the SIDC will fare any better.
Copyright, whilst a potentially confusing minefield, is simple in concept, and AFAIK nobody can simply assume ownership of another's work. In order to stand any chance of working, the SIDC would need to get an appropriate agreement drawn up, and get every person attending to sign. Of course, the crunch comes when someone first tries to challenge it's legality.
I was recently asked by a dealer if I knew who owned a particular vehicle. It transpired they had just received a letter from IM cancelling the warranty, and listed some of the mods, which included revised brakes, suspension, injection, induction,FMI and revised turbo!
Quite frankly, if you do this to your car, you simply can't expect IM to fix what little is left of the original, and banning photos/video is going to do nothing more than pee people off.
