Bugger - an answer for everything.

OK, I'll see your electic sunroof, and raise you ...... a pair of folding mirrors.

Ha! Got you now, O evil agent of Satan (well, GM, but the two are closely related)

You don't see many Audi's kicking around cos they brought just 1,146 into the country between 1979 and 1992.

Whys that? cos they were very expensive handbuilt jobbies. and Audi restricted supply to keep them exclusive.

Here's a question.....

How many Subaru's have won the Pikes Peak Hillclimb twice?

Ha! Beat that Rice Burner boys! (forgetting he drives a Nissan 200

There has been an attitude which could be percieved as snobbery by anyone not a fully paid up member of the brother(and sister)hood...

"Modded novas, bwahahahah". Well, OK, agreed
"Corvette/BMW/Celica GT4/anything - show it a corner and then..."

People like their cars. We, the subaru community, chuck away the rear backbox as a rite of passage into the brother (and sister)hood of scoobydom. I'd like an STI V spoiler for mine... But woe betide anyone who does anything to their nova. How does that work then? Our toys cost more appears to be the obvious answer.

Why do we think our cars are so superior? They're good, and I wouldn't change mine for anything that I could hope to afford...

...But to propose the stock answer of "but show it a corner" about anything to which a scooby is being compared is just a tad cliched and in quite a few cases wrong.

Take a Civic Type-R or, if you will, a Puma. Well down on power, doesn't have the same grunt, but with its lower weight it could probably embarass a lot of us on a corner.

The Impreza isn't a wonderful handing car. Bodyroll in abundance to name but one "trait". The 4WD drivetrain is what appears to allow us to corner at mind-buggering speeds...

I'm as guilty as anyone else of this, but reading some of the recent posts has made me a tad embarassed of my attitude. I'll try to be a bit more accomodating, and not so quick to mock.

Confession time: I had a fiesta which I chose to fit a Kenwood sticker into.

There was a point to this post, but it's a tad rambling. I feel better for it.

Thank you for your attention.

Thumbs up

Chiark,

That's possibly the most sensible thing I've read on ScoobyNet since I first came here.

Good work fella!

Now back to the Muppet Forum....

Its fairly academic though, as we all know bikes are faster than cars...

Cool

and i look down my nose at ALL of you from the seat( leather clad of course)of my 330ci sport
princess will then kick ALL your asses with her r33gtr vspec

seriously though, i love all cars, i even admire nova boys in a way. at least they make an effort. they could trundle along in old corollas, but at least they make an effort with a limited budget/ insurance hassle etc.
still think scoobies are great though

Didn't one of the US mags do an extensive handling test, and find the Impreza handled better than an Elise, 911 and Corvette? Also, I can't speak for the standard turbo but I think the P1 is a wonderful handling car, it hardly rolls at all, corners at very high speeds and begins to slide very smoothly and gradually if you overstep the mark.

In response to chiark,

I worked hard to afford my scoob, therefore without a shadow of a doubt it is the best car in the world as far as i'm concerned

Now, I will rise to the bait every time when someone posts ala ps lewis stylie slaggin' off my pride and joy and telling me how much better some other car is. It's human nature!

No-one likes to be told that there could be a better choice out there, I for one hate it when my boss pulls up in his 996 and tells me about his straight line speed and accelaration, but conversley, he hates the fact that the scoob sounds fantastic whilst idling and doesn't have to be caned to sound fabulous. Each to thier own.

Scoobs Rock and i'll type until my fingers fall off supporting my descision to buy one.

You can talk about faster cars, better handling, cheaper running costs, better looks, better midrange pull etc, etc but you know what?.....I think my car is the dogs and well worth the 5 years of dreaming before i got it.

Nuff Sed

Mikey

To be fair, Chiark's right - I heard it said many times from those with more knowledge than myself. The Scoob is an average handling car with mind boggling levels of grip, which can be mistaken for handling (depending on how you define the term). There is a lot you can do to correct this though.

As for the elitist attitude - pile of cr*p. I've yet to meet more enthusiastic, down-to-earth bunch of people anywhere. Come along to a meet and you will be pleasantly surprised. Substitute the word 'Impreza' with 'Cosworth' and post this on the RS owners club and you'll get very similar responses.

Cheers
Chris

Yup, worked damn hard for mine too. Still work damn hard to afford to keep it running. Wouldn't change it for anything, as I said. Well, a 5 door STI...

I agree that the Subaru community is a great one, I've been to five or six meets up north, Donington, plus the gliding last weekend - where I met up with Chris and a load of others. Damn, we're a nice bunch. Even the non-scooby owners

There isn't an elitist attitude in the flesh, but this BBS recently appears to have taken an elitist stance. For quite a while we've had the "yeah, but show it a corner" argument applied to everything. It's boring, and wrong.

If you were independent and wandered along, what impression would you get?

Agree that I'll defend my choice of car until my fingers bleed - maybe not as extreme as Mikey then . I suppose if someone wanders onto here and says "you're **** and you know you are" then they deserve all they get. But can we have a better argument than "show it a corner"?
