Spookily cross posted with you and answered your weight question without knowing you had asked it.
Adding to my previous posts, you can generate a HUGE amount of front end grip in the dry even on the standard RE040 tyres. As said the car is a LOT quicker than a WRX through bends and with use of the throttle will settle into a neutral or oversteering state rather than understeer city which is what makes it much quicker. In the transition state to when the front diff bites you have to wind off a bit of lock as stated above to let the front end drift back out a bit or the diff can tighten it up too much.
Our daily commute is 14 miles cross country on rural B roads, 95% out in the fields with little other traffic, and at any given point for the same input I would say the STi is 10-15mph faster than our old Leda equipped WRX's.

To clarify the wight question:
STi7 1470kg
MY01 WRX 1385kg
P1 1283kg
MY00< 1235kg for late car.
Weight is the enemy, particularly on track - which is why I am tempted to buy a 2 seater that is only 860kg. You'll have to guess, and no, it isn't any Elise derivative

Surprised at the big weight increase from WRX to STi. The intercooler spray tank must weight something, but what else? Bigger brakes, bigger tyres I suppose, and an extra gear. But these are all small changes, where does the other 50kg come from?
Oh and my other car weighs 492kg......

One thing i can say for certain is the LSD on my UK Sti saved mt bacon last week.
I was coming to the end of a long straight that ends with a 90% right hand corner. Since I know the road quite well and the road was dry I guess I was going into the bend a little too fast for your average Wednesday afternoon shopping trip but nothing too wild.
Anyway, just as I've started braking heavily for the corner a BMW 8 series comes round it in the middle of the road forcing me to stay straight past the turn point. As the alternative was to run straight off the back of the bend the only thing I could do was wait until he'd cleared the corner turn in and floor the throttle. In my previous MY00 it would have been curtains, I'd have been sitting upside down in the ditch at the side of the road, but the Sti suddenly felt like a rear wheel drive, the back stepped out (through a cloud of tyre smoke) pointing me straight down the exit of the corner and whoosh I catapulted off and away.
I'd love to know who actually took possession of my body and drove me round that corner. It definately couldn't have been me as I've been driving front and AWD cars for the last 15 years and the back end not staying put is totally alien to me !!
Needless to say I take that corner a lot more slowly at the moment but I must say that once you get the feel for the back end pushing out through corners (tried it gently a few times) its a lot more fun than the very predicatble non LSD turbos.
Cheers, Ian.
P.S I'd rather go off backwards into a hedge than into it head first !

Sometimes under hard acceleration on a poor road surface it feels like it is torque steering-I wonder if the extra power of the PPP will make this worse? Dave didnt you have this problem when you de catted one of yours?

Yep - when it was spiking to 1.7 bar.....if you had a bit of lock on, and were changing gear, it would almost rip the steering wheel out of your hand Quite entertaining actually
It wasn't actually torque steer, but the front Suretrac diff hunting around for grip - when it hits a bump on one side it almost wheelspins as the diff transfers power from side to side.
You shouldn't get that with the PPP because peak boost is unlikely to be more than 1.4 bar at most

Had mine since Feb 2nd, and still learning how to drive it.
Even though I Tracked it in March at Bedford and went out with an instructor twice(no its not because i'm a crap driver- i hope).
I agree the standard tyres are crap.I ran a MY 98 for 4 years. For most of the time had 17" OZ's with Avon ZZ1's on.which were cheaper than the rest, but very good tyres in wet or dry.
Have recently had De-cat mid section pipe,Prodrive Back Box & air filter fitted & the power now seems to come on lower in the Rev band & is smoother like the MY98.(would love to know the BHP)
It also sounds better than my old S/Sport box - sorry Pete.

I ran our WRX's at either 5/5 or 6/6 on the road. With the extra weight of the STi a setting of 5 may actually be a bit too too soft on the rear, but Pete and Leda will know more about this than me
Did Leda themselves fit it to your STi?
