I'm no clutch expert, but i've been told if you slip the clutch for a long period, ie, very smelly and smokey then it will "polish" the clutch plates. This may account for the jurky feel.

Just drive it carefully for a week or so and see if it get better.

I had my clutch replaced on my MY99 under warrenty and they said that it was only a gearbox out job. My dad had his replaced and it was about £900 including labour and fitting.

My only advise as i've done the same, is to take your foot of the loud pedal for a split second just to let the engine / gearbox catch up with each other, then re-apply the gas......

Update...

Resetting the ECU (i.e. disconnecting the battery for 13hours I was at work today!) has definately helped cure the jerkyness that was so prominient in 1st and 2nd.

Did some flat hunting after work so drove a fair bit and I'm happy to say that the jerkyness has almost gone. Maybe the 'shiny' clutch (post above) is not so shiny?

Biting point seems fine again and I hope to invest money on other things like a big spoiler and gold wheels rather than a new clutch!!

Cheers!

PS - I'm still too ****-scared to drop it in 1st anthing over 1200rpm!

It could be a problem with the clutch dragging (not releasing fully when the clutch pedal is in).. this would make it much more difficult to engage gears.

Cheers,

A.

i have replaced a clutch on a 95 wrx and it is definitely only a gearbox out job and cost about £200 for clutch, pressure plate, release bearing and flywheel bearing , bit of a bug**r to do first time but now i know where to make shortcuts shouldn't be to bad to do again.
p.s you said clutch wear was checked when you had a service what hole/opening was this checked through

webster,

the guy who serviced my car was an ex-rally driver and he took the car for a long drive and from the 'feel' of the car he said that the clutch was only 50-60% of its way through its life - whether this is accurate or not I don't know.

Did you change the clutch yourself?

Where did you but from for so cheap? Min price I got quoted was £350 ish - hopefully I won't need to buy a new one!

Had my clutch done last month £450 driveshats split from g/box and g/box removed. Engine sayed in!
have heard other who got quotes for £350 or
could put AP uprated clutch in for £400 + fitting probably £200 ish
£600 ish total but would take more stick!
Get flywheel checked for runout if out of tolerance will need skimming, extra cost. Don't have to go to subaru dealer

have you noticed if your fluid levels have changed? have you jacked it up and inspected for damage/leeks?
