Puff, True, but I do look and every little helps
Banshi, agree with you on your point too.
Glad someone mentioned L plates another sticker that helps towards cautious driving.

It is often hard enough to find an adult casualty. I refer back to my other post. If the RTA was to have happened while there were leaves on the trees she would probably not have been found until autumn
really? i'd be surprised, most wouldnt....
.and the example is exactly the same. the driver is just asking you to be carefull cause they have a kid- whas wrong with that?
In fact, as has been mentioned, the only extra hazard caused by an infant in a car is if the driver is distracted by the baby. However, in this case the sign should read "Caution - inattentive driver in control".

Oi CrisP - I have a little fishy on my corsa (not on the scoob, the paint would probably flake off with the weight! )...anyway, point is - does it really matter? It's not on your car! Just relax everyone...although most peoples points are good ones, I'll certianly be getting one if I ever havea kid after PG's informed posts
...oh, and the fish is *very* useful in getting offers of help when you break down

FFS some of you ***** need to get out of the ward more, so what if people put stickers on their car. Its their car they can do what they bloody well like with it, please someone explain the harm in it. So many clowns on here now, its like a bloody **** convention. Maybe we should just have roads for single folk with no dogs and DBM 2 Door Subaru's
My gran was right , too many people out there with the 'Its all about me attitude'. BTW I'm still looking for a shark sticker thats got one of those wee Christian fish half way down its guzzler, that would be funny.
Cheers

Jeez. Everyone's getting a bit tetchy, aren't they?
FFS, the fact is, that I'm quite happy if people want to have stickers on their cars. I'm not telling them to stop. However, in the same vein, if I want to feel patronised and angry about those stickers, that is my bloody right.
If the stickers said "Caution - you are a pr*ck", I'm sure many people would be up in arms about how offensive they are. I personally find the 'Baby on Board' signs patronising, offensive and pointless. That's my opinion.
Different things p*ss different people off, and this forum is regularly used to vent our various aggressions.
Deal with it.

The Baby on board stickers are profit for the people who make them, it is optional as to whether or not people buy them.
There may be a bit of an issue when it comes to the hampering of vision in the rear screen, but if people want to put them up, let them put them up
It is not as if the police are going to do anything about them unless they are speeding
I think that the idea of getting officially recognised stickers authorised by the emergency services is fantastic. I think an important feature of them should be that they are removeable, so when the baby is not in the car, you are not misleading the emergency services to think that there is one in there and put them at even more uneccessary risk.
Personally, I would not have one of the hanging down Baby on Board things in the back window , after all, I don't have a "Downs Syndrome person on board" sign when my sister is in the car and she is just as vulnerable as a child to me!!!
Michelle.

Well said, Michelle.
My Jag X-Type has a sensor in the front seat which automatically disables the airbag if there's a child seat there, but enables it if there's nothing (or an adult) in the seat.
Perhaps I should rig it up to an illuminated 'child on board' sign, just in case.

A colleague at work's wife recently wrote his car off. A fly was buzzing around the car annoying her small daughter in the back. Rather than risk being distracted by both her daughter and the fly, she decided to ensure the fly left as soon as possible and attempted to "shoo" it out of the window.
Whilst attmepting this the car ended up on the opposite carriageway with a road sign firmly lodged in the bonnet. (daughter 100% unharmed btw).
I beleive they had a "baby-on-board" sticker which fortunately had alerted other road users to the potential risk of being on the same road as a distracted driver and ensured the only casualty was the car and wifes pride.

Mark, You will see that I agreed with Puff and at no point said they were 'purely' for Emergency services. I personally ( there are no hard and fast rules in training manuals) check the vehicle for any stickers be it 'child onboard,' 'LPG' or the likes (lets face it if you dont know the car has an LPG conversion and it goes boom you may require new knickers !)
As part of any dynamic risk assessment at any incident everything should be used to gain an advantage and give the bigger picture.
As for the empty child seat, yup! a very good indication but thats what all these things are to me INDICATIONS.
One mans hindrance is another mans helper.
Oh by the way, here is the pic you asked for

My sister stares lovingly into her husbands eyes whilst doing 85 on busy dual carriageways. I've had to ask her several times If she'd mind terribly looking straight ahead
Maybe "Woman Driver" stickers should be mandatory - bit like the orange chemical ones
Disclaimer: That was a JOKE

As an addendum, would anyone here think it justifiable or sensible if I had a sticker saying "Wife on board" or "Work Colleague on Board" or "Very good friend on board"? What about "Pet on board"?

i have seen more than once "show cats in transit" I nearly hit the car it was on staring in disbeleif and wondering at such crass pomposity.
why the **** should i even care.
By the way Child on Board stickers although annoying and often irrelevant to the actual occupants seem to have two fundemantal uses
1. i am a crap driver and now i have some one else to blame for being a crap driver
2. look at me now i can park in the baby and toddler spaces at the supermarket
Matt
ps can some one tell me how the hell you type in bold on scoobynet

Hated these stickers from the day I first saw them - its like people with them in the car expect other drivers to treat them with extra respect or something? its never gonna happen is it.
If Nova boy is going to crash into you, its gonna happen regardless and anyway he cant see the sticker from the side or the front so how useful is it really.
Yes I understand the reasoning behind people putting them in - it has been posted already, but that is just what the driver hopes it will achieve? but will it? I doubt it.

Gotta say I take quite offence to being called a ******** just cause I have a kid.
The idea is that *****, don't drive touching your number plate when you have a baby in the car.
Some people go over the top granted, but they have a purpose. Also you don't get any hassle when you park in the parent and child parking bays.

I dont have a blinkered outlook, Im allowed to hate them in the same way I hate Hearsay. All Im saying is that I doubt that many people actually pay attention to them. Maybe Im just too synical, perhaps the drivers in the UK are better than Im aware of.

Camk,
When you say "none of the people who've got these stickers is doing you or anyone any harm", I think you're mistaken. IMHO, a car displaying one of these signs should be grouped together with V*lv* estates, White vans and the majority of women drivers as a road hazards to be aware of... Incidentally, never seen one of these signs in Germany.
Puppypower,
Doesn't the IAM, of which you are a member, discourage the use of anything that might obstruct one's view? Possibly standards have dropped since I joined thirty years ago...

Great thread!
Yes, a Baby on Board sign makes me give the car an even wider berth as there is a fair chance that the driver's concentration is not totally on the road. Seriously, though if it helps the Emergency services prioritise during rescues then it's a good thing. As long as the driver removes it when his kid's not in the car. How many of you do that?
I have sticker too, I have a wee Saltire (St.Andrew's cross for the uneducated) on the boot of my car. Hopefully this gets the message across to other drivers that I am a crazy, claymore-wielding savage pict from the North who's attention may be be disctracted by either the woad warpaint running into my eyes or my roughly-woven kilt getting caught in the handbrake.
Trouble is, if I'm in an accident down here in Surrey, will the Fireman refuse to help me coz I'm a pro-independance red-hair Scot who is about to blow up Windsor Castle???
Nothing like steroetypes, this thread has about 58 already.
