Having discussed it with Pete Croney a while back, i'm pretty sure the bit of Euro legislation - and I think it's tied up in the Block Exemption etc paper - that frees non official IM companies to work on the cars with full warranty still applying has either not come into force yet or been watered down.

But, if this is crap, Pete will tell me
No not crap Dave. The EC let the motor trade carry out restrictive practises, which included saying who could and who couldn't service your car, to maintain its warranty. This was known as regulation 1475-95. The move was to protect the car industry.

This ends 30th September 2002, as the EC has now decided that its the consumer that needs protecting.

The descision was announced on BBC's website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1775384.stm

The background for the descision came from the Autopolis report http://europa.eu.int/comm/competitio...nd_service.pdf

David

I should have added, in this case, you were "miss sold" the insurance policy. They are saying that your car was never eligable for cover.

You are entitled to a full refund on the premium and this may go quite some way towards the cost of the repair.

As Puff said, this warranty is an insurance policy, sold on behalf of Mondial. As such it is governed by the Insurance Ombudsman, who you should contact for further advice.

I know of many people who have had claims rejected by Modial and, as ever, its important to read every single bit of small print before relying on such a policy.
