Mike the thing is Scoobies don't need double the horsepower to kick RS butt (would be nice though ). The fastest car at the end of the day is the one that still goes, a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link etc,etc...
Now I'm LOL

Oh dear Mike,
You're really starting to lose the plot.
You say double the hp - why? With half your power we still do the same 1/4 mile times. Ha ha. Oh, I mean faster 1/4 mile times.
Also, you've forgotten about your dodgy headgaskets?
Death rattles? You're deluding yourself, old man. That's fairly isolated - similar to a reliable RS, maybe?
It's gonna be a Subaru day - RS's won't feature. In fact, even if RS's are on the track, the still won't feature!
And if they do, I'll breathe my BS all over them.

Mike,
I have recently seen a considerable number of Sierras in action on the track, it was a motorsports event of 8 races. Unfortunately the fords were outdone by a number of other makes, but there wernt any scoobies there. There was a stretched sierra there (had 3 doors per side). Anyway I am waffling, just in case you wondered it was last friday at the speedworth track in Ipswich, it was hot rods and bangers, and the fords didnt even do well at that. Thanks for posting those times, it does underline how good a scoob is compared to a cossie (in basic trim). I look forward to more tuners becoming available for the scoob, and they will eventually.
And yes I know you have done loads of mods etc etc, and I am sure yours is as fast as you say (and your times prove it).

To the tune of 'Raindrops'......
Rainbird keeps breaking all his diffs.
His car's very modded but it does not seem that quick...
On the quarter mile...
So...
Scoobies are winning,
Cossies butts we are kicking.
And always will.
Yet still,
They come back for some afters,
What a disaster!
They lose again,
And most of them are towed
Back home.
And Rainbird's still breaking all his diffs..
Errrrm....
Well I was bored!
Stef.

Dear Stef,
You are so very sad (but I must admit to laughing!)
Also, all you Scooby girls, remember mine is 2wd, yours is 4wd - endow a Cossie with similar traction (and a less powerful engine to mine "only" 380bhp) and it does the standing quarter in 11.80s @ 115mph.....
Out on the open road / track, my car (once rolling - which in the real world you spend most of the time moving not stationary), would blow EVERY single one of your cars into the back of beyond.... You have no idea how much faster my car is than a Scooby (apart from the guy in the silver WRX on his way back from a race-meeting at Snetterton on the A11 several months ago - hope he is a member and reading all this!). I let him catch up and then waved to him in the mirror as I left him for dead (with him trying his absolute hardest - well the front of the car was bobbing up and down as he was accelerating hard and changing gear) - and he became a spec in the mirror. When I slowed down to turn off and give him a friendly wave, he wouldn't even look at me - too embarrassed about being beaten by a ten year old car! Mind you, I think his passenger thought it was funny....
Dear Robski,
We are at Scole (near Diss on the A140)tonight ("The Crossways" pub), why don't you come along and meet some fellow petrolheads (I would love a go in YOUR car), and I'm sure we can arrange for you to have a go in a "quick" car! We'll be there from 7.15 onwards.
LOL

Mike,
I doubt I will be able to make it, but maybe (supposed to be studying!!), and as far as getting a go in my car, no way, shes being run-in at the mo, about to go for 1000 mile service! I guess you were talking about straight line dual roads again!?
Still got images of sierras and corners from friday night. Turn wheel, wait, wait, crash.
So I will have to pass on the "fast" car till I have had my therapy. Ta for the offer tho!

Mike,
Yep I'm sure your car would beat a Scooby once rolling but throw in a few bends/bumps/rain and I'm sure you'd be looking for the tow rope to get you out the ditch whilst the Scooby driver was miles down the road...

Mike wouldn't need to look for a tow rope. He must be so used to being recovered he's had a permanent one fitted. Only reliable mod he's got!
Mike
I think we have got an idea how much faster your car is - after all, you've told us all about a hundred times!! (err, but yet to prove it!)

right then, ive had enough of the BS.
If any of you guys want to give up your place to a genuine road spec saphire cossie 2WD at donnington i'll give them all a good thrashing. It is my 20,000 mile a year road car. Ive driven donnington 4 times this year averaging 100 miles per session and have NEVER been passed by a scooby yet. The only car to pass me on road tyres was an EVO 6 RS Sprint, and that was just on superior braking.
Do you feel you can all handle the humiliation of a 9 year old cossie on road tyres blowing you away!!!

Mike,
Are you saying that your car would be faster with less power????
Im going to remove the engine from my scoob then, and replace it with a rather nice reliant kitten engine I have my eye on. I think it chucks out about 15bhp...woohooo...

Dear Robski,
I've heard some lame excuses in my life, but that really takes some beating! Surely you can afford to take one night off (I'll even buy you a drink!).
The idea was for you to take me down some back country roads (no sniggering at the back please!) to show me how a Scooby went, and then I would take you down the same route in my car. That way you could report back to the doubting Thomas's as to the capabilities of a "sorted" Cossie.
Dear Weaver,
Bumps and bends I don't have a problem with, just the rain - and in the new year, THAT won't be a problem either.....
Dear Craig,
Actually, you may joke, but I HAVE invested in a proper tow bar, as we have found a rope is no good for long distances! Won't tell you what our speed record for towing is 'cos I know I'll get a right roasting.....
And get me a place (I will of course pay) on any of your future track days, and we'll see who has the last laugh.....
Dear Nightmare,
What I am saying is that I have now gone past the boundries of traction, so from a standing start the car is "spinning" the power away wastefully, rather than making forward progress. Whereas the last engine was just about right for traction / wheelspin, the extra bhp has now taken me beyond that and the losses from a standing start are greater than the gains.....
Incidentally, you never did tell me what model Lotus Esprit you have (GT3, S4, S4S, V8 etc).....
LOL
Mike

Mike,
At least if we've got helmets on, we won't hear your car go bang!!
As for next year, are you gonna get some driving lessons?
And, you never let on how much your car owes you. Being serious, I'd be interested. Still being serious, I'd be interested in going in yours on a track (as longs as theres no bends or rain!) and as long as you don't emulate the roly poly "thing" in Revs.
And, what'll happen when Steff kicks your *** on the track?

Dear Craig,
What will happen just after Stef kicks my **** on the track is...he'll wake up!
You will be more than welcome to be a passenger in my car and for your information I am a ROSPA "Gold" driver.....
I will definitely be trying to get on one of your track days next year, where I WILL kick Scooby butt!
If I told you how much I'd spent on the car, I know you'd really take the ****. Suffice to say, it is an adequate amount considering the performance per pound that I have gained. Also I can justify it a little by the fact that I have owned the car six years and so the cost can be spread throughout that period! However, lets just say that it gets whatever it needs to be in front of you lot...
LOL

haha - that was an amusing last comment John.. :d
anyway - sorry Mike, its a turbo SE (1992!)
sort of thought about getting a V8, and then found out why people complain about a cramped cockpit. I dont know what differences they actaully made to the interior for the S4, but there is so much less space than in mine. The the new interior appeared - very nice, thought some more, bought a Marcos, then the M250 piccys appeared...and I HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE - so I put a deposit down, and havent upgraded the esprit!
Hey - no-one else cared about that story at all did they??
Saw some cerberas at Top Gear live, trying to do 0-60 times. They all suffered from the 'cant get the power to the floor' problem too.. 0-60 in 6.8 escs. hahahaha

Dear Nightmare,
Have you had a cam-belt change yet! A bit of an "in-joke" there for any Esprit owners... If so, how much did it cost....?!
The S4 is a MUCH better car than the SE (in my totally unbiased opinion of course!) and is "supposed" to have a bigger, better interior (although I haven't been in an SE). The V8 is just a pile of poo - had a demonstrator for the weekend R472 AAH (the car that all the magazines used for the performance figures on). No real power below 5000 revs and then it comes on cam like a normally aspirated car, but hits a severe rev limit at 7000! Doesn't feel like it has ANY turbos, let alone TWO. Did 550 miles and gave it back asking if there was anything wrong with it!? I have got another test day soon at the factory (round the track this time) as apparantly the Sport 350 is better (can't see how losing ONLY 75kg is going to improve it that much though).
So what is the next mod to the Lambo and WHEN are you going to Bruntingthorpe next!?
LOL

Mike,
If you do whatever's needed, keep trying. You've got some way to go. Unless you're talking dreaming! Oh, and home mechanics.
ROSPA Gold? Pah, I've got a Blue Peter badge!
Made a car out of cardboard and sticky backed plastic. Called it the Cossie. Didn't think it'd catch on though....!

Dear Craig,
I was "there" when I stage 1 chipped the car! It's just that I wanted to beat (untuned!) Diablos as well! So I kept going (Speed - its a drug you know!)....
When ANY Scooby comes past me on the road or the track is when I give up and sell the car and buy a Scooby. But as we BOTH know that ain't ever gonna happen - so don't hold your breath (well, no actually DO hold your breath! )!
LOL

Dear Weaver and Craig,
We'll see on the 21st then won't we..... Even my really bad runs were 13.7s (with a non-breaking diff!).
Stef, are you gonna oblige by letting me run against you?
And are the two of you going to be there then, or will you come out with some limp wristed excuses such as "I'm studying!" as well....
LOL
