Burr a suggestion. get in touch with the owners of this site
http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/
to see if they can advise in the testing. They seem to have a good working knowledge of these things. Maybe they'd put the results on their site.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already tested the system with the guy who supplied Scoobynet with the units on the group buy.
I watched his example of how they were fitted to his Vectra, then fitted mine with a view to sorting the problems he had with his....
I got mine right on the second attempt..... almost 100% stealth mode

I'll definetly be there Burr, better to test in crappy weather I suppose, if it still detects & blocks then it's money well spent.
L-M-WRX..it's a long way to come to bring us butties though, have you got a microwave that plugs into the ciggy lighter to warm up again ??
ps. sorry I didn't make Elvington, would have been nice to meet up with a few people.

I've just checked where you are going to do the test and you're about 160 miles away, which means that I'll have to get up, er, rather early.....
I'd love to do a real test but as I've just got back from the seaside I'm very tired, so unfortunately I won't be there
Can we have some pics of your final set up please

So BuRR, from your professional opinion, which one is the best? Its a double whammy for you because if you got caught speeding, you might end up losing your job so I know that you'd pick the best one. Go on, tell us..

Many thanks to BuRR for organising today
Despite not actually having a diffuser, the 300 mile round trip was well worth it!!
It gave me a chance to see up close the different diffuser makes, and the various options on where to place them - it does make a difference. Plus i could test my Bel990i out.
Observations...
Bel990i, mounted towards the bottom of the windscreen, can pick up the laser from from the rear at 20 yards away - but not much more Any further than that and no response. Thus rearward detection is effectively useless
Travelling towards the laser gun, and braking as soon as the Bel990i alarm goes off does no good The speed recorded is your original one, so it is just a reminder of a (possible) ticket to come.
Following a car (normal safe distance etc.) that is actually being targetted, the Bel990i did not detect any laser scatter - even when intentionally trying to catch a reflection on the side of a vehicle.
Take care when mounting a diffuser behind a grill. At least one of the cars had it speed recorded before the jamming took effect. This was probably due to approaching around a slight bend, and the angle would affect the response of the diffuser
Oh, and one final thing - it is very scarey how easy it is for even a complete novice to record the speed of a vehicle 1000 yards away in less that a second. These laser guns are deadly accurate!!
One again, thatks for a great day, and good to meet all the attendees!
Cheers,
mb

Legality has never been tested in the courts. Apart from that the diffusers with 2 modules seemed to work better than the single type.

BEW - don't forget Truvelos, for which neither diffusers or Bels will help
For example, isn't there one on a certain brand new bit of dual-carriageway (sorry, pre-designed accident blackstop) near where we first met (ooh err!)
mb
btw, excellent photos from BuRR - cheers!

Thanks to all the guys that attended.....
Just one thing. This afternoon, I was driving along Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, and saw one of West Yorkshire's "safer roads" speed enforcement vans. NONE of my detectors made as much as a miff......
....so.............. I pulled over, and went over to chat with the guy.
It turns out he was using one of TWO different types of tripod-mounted video-assisted laser guns. This particular type, scarily enough, did not register at all on the Blinder or my Bel550.
I'll try and remember how he explained the two guns....
GUN 1
Pro-laser based
Connected to Hi8 Video camera for video evidence.
Range = 1000 metres and more
advantages (to us): Picked up by Bel550, and repelled by Diffuser units
disadvantages (to us): It will get you before you see it if you don't have a diffuser.
GUN 2
NOT Pro-laser (some other unknown make)
Connected to Hi8 Video camera for video evidence.
Range = 30-50 metres (yes - its short range)
advantages (to us): Need to be quite close before it can get you
disadvantages (to us): Not picked up by detectors.
So how do West Yorks work? I'll try and write it down more or less how it was described to me.
The officer sets a threshhold speed (in today's case 40mph) by means of a small set of buttons on the back of the device. A Hi8 cassette is placed in the attached camcorder. The officer will watch oncoming traffic. When he sees a car he thinks is speeding, he'll press a small button and point the gun at the car. When in range, a reading is taken. If its over 40mph then a mark is made on the video cassette and that driver is off to court by NIP. If less, then it drives by with no further action.
At the moment, West Yorks have their threshold set at 40mph, but may be bringing it down as low as 36!!!!!!
Shunty was going to have a blast out later and see if his picks up anything, but all I can say is "Be on your guard"
Check out West Yorkshire Safety Cameras website for where they're going to be in this area. What he did say, was that they will never be anywhere other than where they've publicised. That's not to say Divisional Traffic won't though.
Hope this all makes sense. Any questions, feel free to ask them in this thread, or email my profile.
