The deletions are not intended to hide anything from anyone, merely to stop scoobynet from blatantly advocating, and advertising it.

I completely support stef's judgement to allow the remaining image to stand as it serves the purpose of the thread without being as offensive as the other were.

I do also think the thread should continue as it's message is valid and an important one.

Best regards

Elondan, if you ever realized how much effort & thinking & rethinking & doubting Simon puts in his decisions, you may loose your fascination for crashed cars, and find a whole new world where things are not black and white.

In other words: you are being unfair to both Simon and the other moderators.

This may look like a flame ... and it is intented to be one.

Why was the thread in Members Gallery asking for pics of crashed cars not enough ?

I don't want to see that ****, and yes I can fully imagine that hitting my finger with a hammer might hurt... don't need any lessons about that anymore.

Even if Simon is putting a lot of thought into his actions, it doesn't mean I have to agree with them,
as for your other comments,
this thread has nothing to do with "Crash pictures", I wanted what happens to scoobs, not people!
I was shocked by the pictures myself, but it made me think of all the times I was speeding in my Scoob, and I thought it would make you guys think about what happens when you speed too.
This thread is published (not by me) in the "Scoobynet" twin in the U.S the "i-club", and overthere nobody objected so I couldn't know it would cause such a reaction here.

Elondan,

Did these pictures of the Ferrari give you answers to your fascination of how cars are built?

Sorry David I disagree (that's what debating's all about isn't it? ).
Showing a mangled wreck of a car would suffice (to me anyway) to get the point of 'Speed Kills' across. I don't think the addition of pictures of body parts serves the cause any more, and is best left to the imagination.
Accidents like this happen every day all over the world, and I have the utmost respect (and amazement) for the people that have to deal with this as part of their everyday life, the police, firefighters, etc.
I consider myself a fairly 'up for anything' kind of guy, but if I want to see pics of real dead human beings I'm sure there are plenty of sick sites out there that would cater for such desire.

What has been done has been done. This is a FREE service that SDB supports and pays for. At the end of the day the link has been removed. None of this has ever been a personal attack on you, and we have been down the same road with somebody else.

Just heed the comments for future posting..........that's all!!!!

Somethings we don't agree with, but hey that's life!!

EVERYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID, HAS BEEN SAID, SO CAN WE CLOSE THIS THREAD NOW PLEASE.

Just went over to the US bbs that David put a link to and read the posts on the accident.
Elondon was right, no objections by that lot, in fact some are making joke comments about it. I was surprised, they must have stronger stomachs over there. I only went in to read the comments. Didn't look for the photos. Definately makes you think about speeding, even from just reading the comments.

I don't think we're in disagreement.

I wasn't advocating the images (see my first sentence). I was merely saying how they affected me.

I disagree with your disagreement .. mangled wrecks aplenty are seen everywhere nowadays and it's all too easy to mentally gloss over the implications of such events - actually seeing it for real is a bucket of the ice cold, so to speak, for those of us who aren't exposed to this for a more somber reason

the only people who should have their eyed glued open and forced to look at such stuff are the joyriders and idiots on the ubiquitous police vid programs - otherwise, yes - best left somewhere more appropriate (if there is such a thing )

I saw the images and was frankly horrified and at the same time moved to realise that at that kind of speed, you have little chance of "walking away". Im probably guilty of thinking that an airbag and side impact bars make me invincible.

However, it was up to you to decide if you wanted to press the link. No one forced it upon us.

I often see various things being censored, and feel strongly that censorship is a bad thing if it related so an important message - in this case that speed kills.

If you didnt want to see the picture, you could click the "back button" and look away.

There was a warning in the thread not to look - so we had a choice - just that most of us are/were curious.

We then feel apalled by the imagery and rather than admit to not taking the warnings seriously we have a go at the poster as if to say "you shouldn't have let me see it in the first place" which is wrong. I and all others clicked the link. No one held a gun to our heads.

I often find that society tries to shield us from "nasty things" that happen in real life. The photo's were no more horrific than i imagine the average Fireman sees in an average week of "road duty".

I agree that people should see this type of thing so they are aware of the dangers of speeding. GP mentions car thieves etc. Seeing the image of what your actions can do is far more powerful than reading about them.

Children read in school about the Holocaust in WW2, but until they see the gruesome "Schindlers List" type visuals they cannot fully appreciate what happened. The same goes for this. I would imagine a police officer showing this to children at schools would, whilst outraging parents, make the impact of the "speed kills" message hit home very hard.

I believe that this whole thread has made a point, people who saw the images wont forget them in a hurry, and people who didnt will gather from peoples reactions how horrific speed related accidents can be.

Its not something i will forget in a hurry.

Found it through I-club. Made me feel physically sick and frightened me.

No problem with being given the URL on this board though - I am over 18 and can and have to deal with my own actions daily and can make my own decisions (but I cant spell because I am an engineer!).

It undoubtedly has an effect on the way you look at your driving skill and style but as always anything other than personal experience has a very short lived effect and you will be back to old ways in no time - unfortunately this is human nature.

I am definately not making light of this crash so don't take what I have said in this way please!

But this forum has no age limit warnings, so you can't expect to have those kinds of links going on.

I haven’t seen the pictures, but what horrifies me is the fact that toddlers get killed at 30mph in town. SLOW DOWN IN TOWN!

150mph crashes are irrelevant. People being struck by lightning probably don’t look too good either.

I totally agree with Jza. I saw the pictures too, before the link was deleted, and they did turn my stomache, but I clicked on the link in the knowledge that could be the case. The pictures, whilst shocking, were not glorifying death or any sort of violence/mutilation. If people find them shocking, then maybe, just maybe, some valuable message has been got across.

It's also out of order to show pictures of a dead person you don't know IMO - how would you like it if a member of your family had a fatal accident then people went round posting pictures of it?

Cool

Stef,

You missed the word "Inappropriate" in your post... it should have been placed just before "Speed Kills".

(Who had always worn closed face helmets when riding motorbikes, even before someone posted up pictures showing how little help an open face would be in a crash. )

Thumbs down

I think there are other sites to visit if you want to see pictures of dead bodies on the internet - lets keep this one car related. Most people can guess what happens when flesh and metal come together at high speed. Any arguement against the dangers of speeding would have to show significantly more reason and eloquence before I'd respect it.

I am glad that the URL has been deleted.

I think I must have been one of the first to see all and was about to send an E mail when my connection to Sweden went down.

This BBL is no place for such pictures.

It must be remembered that the driver and passenger have family and I shudder to think what would happen if they happened to see those pictures.

I do not think it takes much imagination to think what happens in an accident at the speed mentioned.

Just think of the poor family and friends.

Call me a glutton for punishment, but I went and searched on i-chat for the link to these photos, just to see what the fuss was all about.

I thought that I had seen the worst that the internet had to offer, but I came seriously close to throwing up after viewing the last photo.

The first two photos are fine, and server to prove a very valid point, speed can kill.

The last two photos are totally over the top, well done mods, i think its time this thread was closed and deleted.

I don't think I really want my dinner anymore either ...

Moray,

>>how little help an open face would be in a crash

I think I saw a link somewhere ... hmmm, let me look that up

A thought ... come on people, I hope *no one* on this bbs ever drives her/his car and not realize that ugly things can happen if it goes pear shaped ... nothing to do with speed itself - as the other poster said you can make a real mess at 30 MPH.

Further more: the "it will make you think" reasoning is a cop-out. I can think of many pictures from recent or ancient history that would make us "think". I don't think (or hope if you like) that Scoobynet is the most appropriate place for that.

Damned, this all sounds like I'm an old git advocating "censorship" and all that ... ... food for thought really.

glad i never saw them.

I am curious - but theres enough sickening things that i could go and search and find.

I wont though coz frankly life is here to be enjoyed.

Same reason i dont go watching horror movies, and same reason i didnt watch my dog get put down.

choice is a great thing - just wish it would be enforced with smokers, i dont smoke and dont like it being forced upon me.

Certainly makes you realise just how fragile the human body is, and also how important it is to live everyday to its full.

I agree with some here and not with others. I found the link because I know I can take it, and made my own decisions. These sorts of images do usually have an effect on how I drive, though I am a fairly safe (slow) driver these days anyway.

I looked through curiosity and they are bad images, though not the worst I have seen.

I think the appropriate action has been taken on the bbs, and I also feel that my MR2 is quite fast enough for me thankyou.

An accident and death can happen at any speed, but always remember that as the speed increases so can what happens to one self increase in about the square root or cube root.

The only time I have travelled at 150 mph plus has been on the race track, and at times one wonders what might happen if the engine siezes or a tyre blows.

yeah, the (DELETE) link is a good un, or extreme, depends on your point of view
so be warned, some of it aint pretty, so no complaing to me although i have another one if yer interested
c'mon fellas, i aint out to be flamed on this, its just that i'm an adult, most here are, and those that arent probably knew about (DELETE) and such like long before me
most teenagers know the best sites anyway, why do we have to mollycoddle grown ups?
ah well, spose im as politically, socially and morally 'incorrect' as ever

If teenagers already know all the "best" (your choice of word) sites anyway, then anyone wanting these links can ask a teenager, so there's really no need to publish them here.
