Cool

Carolyn,

Dave drives like a wuss eh? LOL

Pete, glad you're still alive & kicking! You have just put your finger on the very crux of this thread, which is the "amazing" marketing strategy of this product, and what it can do to customer demand (not).

My gut feel is that apart from those who really believe in the Prodrive product and organisation, if it wasn't for the warranty issue, most people with money burning a hole in their pockets might have looked at alternative solutions long ago!

If, as you say, its IM/UK Subaru who are resposible for the marketing strategy of this product, I would hope they would re-examine that strategy before a loyal (albeit tied in) customer base gets pretty cheesed off! Certainly if I was Prodrive (I'm not so will be forever poor) I would be unhappy that my good reputation out there in the field was being potentially tarnished by the actions of my product partner.

Someone reminded me the other day that in today's society, the consumer is king (and rightly so).

WB

Damn, I forgot the smileys the first time round!

If it makes Mrs T-S happy to say I drive like a wuss, who am I to disagree? Easier for domestic harmony methinks.....

So the reason Carolyn always lets you drive Dave, must be because she thinks you need the practise?

After reading this and many other posts regarding the ppp pack I think the following:-

Sti 7 ppp pack compromises following:

Remapped ecu
High flow air filter
Turbo/Induction pipework changed
Exhaust changes, Back Box, Cats changed to High Flow Units 1 or poss both (possibly even restrictor removed)

305 bhp 295lbsft torque

How far wrong do you think I am? No far methinks

This adds up to £2000 whoa a lot of money?

My question now is this, if they tinker with all the above surely this gives people more scope to modify their Uk Sti without major warranty issues.

If prodrive/subaru can fit a high flow cat why can't you.

having spoken to many dealers regarding the warranty issue, some seen very laid back, others vertical the reading is that any modification which directly or indirectly causes a fault will invalidate your warranty. Changing the cats won't invalidate your total warranty.

It's interesting

Hawkeye

Ps Dave T-s I admire the resolute attitude you have to keeping information private, I seem to remember someone else doing this a while ago and getting cane'd for it. (cypriot humour and all that)

Cheers Hawkeye

Because you're not Subaru or Prodrive and they won't know the quality/knock on effects of someone they don't know fitting a part they don't the know the details of (and that they haven't tested).

I agree with your point in principle however, I'm sure Scoobysport, Magnex and the many other exhaust manufacturers feel that their products are at least equal to Subaru's.

My point is that if Subaru/prodrive do fit a free flowing cat to the car what reasons are stopping you from fitting a part equal to or greater in quality. None that I can think of.

What I'm saying is it should open the door for far more legitimate modifications of the car.

Cheers Hawkeye

Hawkeye

We don't sell catted systems because we haven't been able to find a cat that...

flows better than standard

AND

works well enough to prevent error code P0420

AND

will do so for 60,000 miles / 3 years

... at a price which people would be prepared to pay.

eg would you pay £600+ for a downpipe?

People who do make catted sections... what warranty do you give?

Question

Hawkeye, was it you that had the "hush hush" black STi7 that was the subject of a long thread a while back?

Twas indeed and i'm enjoying it very much.

Just trying to give constructive points that's all.

Pete
please don't feel I was having a pop at you your exhausts are excellant. I was just wondering why people don't try the high flow cat option to limit the warranty issues. I'm sure someday someone will. Also it seems to me that the answer to your questions of would I pay £600+ for a pipe would be yes if I buy the PPP pack!!

My main point is that choice is something people like and if you have the choice of de-catting your car and invalidating certain parts of the warranty or the ppp pack it weighs heavily towards the PPP however if there was another high flow cat option at least you have a choice

Hawkeye

Also i'm questioning the real need for it, in the real world. It's not as though the STI is slow is it.
Yes it is. Havent you ever driven one?

The only reason i'm considering a PPP for the STI is to improve the <4K response time and not to make the car go faster. It's fast enough already.
It is not "fast enough already". It may be "fast enough for Neil" already though...

If you want better response low down, you wont achieve that with "PPP" stuff

I agree ,the car isn't slow, just needs more torque. With that extra torque there won't be the need to work the gearbox as much, which can be a pain in the butt when trying to make rapid progress on tight country lanes.
Everybody wanted a 6 speed gearbox. They made one. Now use it!

Seriously, if the powerband were broader, you wouldnt need to play with it as much, you are absolutely correct.

Wake up - nobody is forcing you to buy the STi.
Exactly.

Nobody is forcing you to buy the PPP for it either.
EXACTLY!

If you think an EVO7 is better, buy an EVO7...
Are you saying that the Mitsubishi Evolution 7 being more performant than a Subaru Impreza STI is a matter of opinion??

Oh, and the reason you can't get a UK STi with close to 300bhp from the factory is because it wouldn't pass EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval, or the Euro 3/4 emissions regs
Actually, the reason is never BECAUSE, the reason is always THAT

You can. There are lots of examples in strict countries such as Switzerland where tuners such as Digit Power fit high flow cats to Subarus and other cars.

So you are saying that you cant make a high flow cat that wont trigger a fault code in the ECU, that you cant change the values in the ECU as to not trigger that fault code and that your cat couldnt last 3 years? Which company do you work for?
