A public or private gathering of 5 or more people "could" be considered an illegal activitiy IIRC

I'm sure that there have to be reasons but the catchall conspiracy laws would likely cover it

So any congregation of performance cars now warrants this heavy handed police intervention.....
Sorry, I thought we were talking about Novas

Surely the answer would be to lock the car up and walk off. Come back when it's all over and pick up the car.

Carl.. The answer would be.... To demand a top officer ( who can read and write) to put his name on the block. To offer a full and legal explaination to his officers actions. And to take the flack when the complaints roll in. THis is not Russia/china.

the thing is. back in 1994 when youngsters where engaging in demonstrations in central london about the then criminal justice bill - everyone thought it was just swampies and so on causing a fuss.

A few years on, the now Criminal Justice Act is being used against you to make it a criminal offense to commit 'Aggrevated tresspass' with groups of people on the car park and makes it a criminal offence really, giving you very few rights.

The same tactic was used on the crowds of anti-capitalists demonstrating in central london last year and they got penned in at oxford circus for a good 5-6 hours or so.

The UK does have very tight laws. the only solution is to just not meet up like this because the law is totally against you.

This is what happens when an apathetic nation lets these odd laws go through with little challenge. I seem to remember that the CJA was brought in by a tory government. Your right to silence also went down the plug hole round about then as well which effectively means that you have to prove that you are innocent rather than someone prove you are guilty!!!

ah well. at least the pigs are allowed to sleep on beds now.

They could've fooled me. Besides, in Soviet Russia and China, everyone is treated equal despite the lies of western propaganda.

Rapiddescent - IIRC the demonstrators that were held for a few hours in the street did actually cause damage to property. The police action there was more prevention (after the previous year when property was destroyed, momuments defaced and the actions of smilar protects in other countries.

In that case I think their actions were more justified, before you say they were heavy handed: America used water canons and rubber bullets on the demonstrators, Itay one protestor shot dead and series of very serious baton charges, France/Belguim water canons and tear gas were used.

What this thread was originally about was the fact the the Guildford cruise (which happens very frequently) turned into a Police lock down.

THe CJA covers five people in a public place... if it was a private place wouldn't all parties in people's homes be illegal?

Matt

Why should someone's home be different? A subvursive [sp] gathering can happen in a private house & yes that technically makes a private party illegal without prior police approval

Yes you did see POC's old car in guildford last night cos i was driving it!

I dont participate in the cruise - I have like minded friends where we park about 2 miles away in the town centre to keep away from all the trouble, and then go for a drink.

it's a running joke in guildford with the amount of police resources wasted on cruising, taking down number plates, filming etc If i drive my currently very dull company car through the 'cruise area' no one bats an eyelid, no filming, no numberplate taking etc, but as soon as i drive a loud bright yellow evo every single rozzers homes in on it like im a serial killing rapist with 1/2 a ton of semtex in the boot...

Stinks of discrimination to me...

Guildford is quickly becoming a 'no go' zone on a sunday night.

which is no good for me as there are some cracking bars there packed to the rafters with trim

Maybe the police could 'justify' their action by publishing a list of all the offences that they will be taking further?

I can't believe that the police were able to scrape together sufficient man(woman)-power at the weekend (overtime anyone??) for this sort of exercise. Stark comparison with our police numbers in Bishop's Stortford (population of 35,000+) where the police station was recently closed one evening as a result of lack of staff

Priorities please.

We "tried" to have a BBQ on Saturday night down the gower, we openly organised it on a cruiseboard where about 20 people put their names down, when we turned up, every public car park was closed, the local's had been warned of a "max power rally" where 300 cars would turn up, WTF!! If they knew of the BBQ through the board then they should have known there were a small number of people.

The locals were also told the police were concerned about us have a few drinks then driving but surely if they were that concerened they'd be stopping everyone coming out of a big pub when the car park was full!

Trout,

It might happen... one day!

I'll probably have to stop putting things on the car for a while. Then I can save up and go to your favourite website: www.buy-friends.com

i was there last nite was speakin to a member of the surry police who told me they tried this similar heavy handed tatic in fleet with the bikers. The bikers however got on the internet and basicly got every biker club that was prepared to visit fleet to desend on fleet the following month. So what started out as a gathering of 2 to 3 hundred bikers turned into about 15 thousand bikers desending on fleet the following month. Now the meet still goes on the police are still present but they dont do what they did 4 months ago.

I suggest we do something similar to Guilford and then see how they cope.

funlovinanimal2001, the bikers down here did a go-slow day, I suggested this on a local cruise board but we all agreed in the end we'd get even worse publicity

Weston super mare has been worse than this ( a few months ago)

Several people were arrested and had their cars impounded on the last few bank holiday sundays in weston (age old tradition of loads of cars converging on weston on bank holiday).

I went last yr once and got fined for number plate letters being 5mm too short (cop on his knees with a ruler measuring them) and as a result am on the 'cruise nuisance register' set up by avon and somerset constabulary.
Basically- if i am in weston on a bank holiday/ or whenever loads of cars are there- i risk arrest and having my car impounded.

The problem is.....im a dj.....and have to drive into weston for work sometimes...
Am i going to get arrested simply for driving to work?
(you see the problem now and why i am pissed off)

It IS ridiculous- burglars and rapist clearly get to go about their business undisturbed whils this ****e goes on.

DO you guys know why the police are screwing with you guys? Because all you do is complain about it on the net without doing anything about it. They know very well that you guys are too lazy to take direct action hence they're able to discriminate you in any way they like. They make the law as they go along knowing very well that you'll just cry and do nothing about it.

The truth hurts doesn't it?

Aren't you on private property though? Maybe the owners don't want large groups of people hanging around on their property? Just a thought.

So katana what u think we should do then
If you where there and plenty of peps will vouch for this i even pulled the human rights act on them and they just thought i was takin the ****
However i do now ask the question is this an invasion of human rights EG
We where just there enjoying ourselves and this sh*t happens
surely if we get enough cars down there i mean 600 plus maybe they might reconsider doin this to us

how about writing to your MP, just a suggestion, they might ignore it, but they might be looking for some young people votes some time soon.

You never know.

The answer is simple. Every person who was held up in the car park goes to the local police station, and makes a formal complaint. If you can't get to the police shop, write to the chief constable making a formal complaint.

Do not be persuaded to change it from a 'formal complaint'. This will cause huge amounts of manpower to be consumed raising mountains of paperwork, and their statistics will be severely damaged if you you get a couple of hundred complaints.

They will hate you, but you (collectively) can make them suffer...

Colin.
