Somewhere I used to work at a few years ago, a guy there was involved in a road rage incident... this was before all the current/recent heat on road rage and car jacking..

He waved his replica gun out the window which did the trick in the current situation.. but he then got 4years I think it was..
as his reg had been taken down and passed to the Police etc...

Is life (for shooting someone with a real gun) worth not having your car nicked? obviously the risk of injury to yourself or family is something different.

If you have a new shape, you can enable the alarm to auto lock the doors as soon as you turn the ignition. Don't know if this works on Classics.

Of course this would not stop someone breaking the windows to get in if they are seroius.

I can't believe people are seriously contemplating carrying guns. It doesn't matter if they are replica or not, loaded or not. Just having one in your car will get you time. Waving it about will get you serious time. As was mentioned before, you may be biting off more than you can chew. Handguns also require a fair amount of training and practice to shoot effectively. Trying to shoot one whilst driving is a very specialised skill which I doubt 99.9% of the public are capable of anyway.

Don't carry anything even resembling a firearm in your car. Even pointing a hairdryer at another car will get you in serious trouble.

Losing your car and having an increased insurance premium is not worth the hassle and danger associated with firearms.

PS: Just for the record, I'm a Weapons Instructor in the TA and know a fair amount about weapons.

PPS: Salsa-King, glad to hear you got away. Even if they weren't after your car, the way they were driving still justified your desire to put some distance between you and them. I'd have done the same.

Yes, anyone who carries a handgun in the UK should be shot on sight. The police are highly trained so wont do this of course, but if you carry i have no sympathy for you if you get shot.

P.S I am a marksman standard shot with 0.22, 0.303 and 0.275 SLR rifles. I am a good shot with a handgun. I used to train young people to shoot acurately and safely and know how dangerous these weapons are. I repect them 100%, what you are talking about is nonsense Claudius.

I have previously pointed out that a lot of people on here are narrow-minded. But that John thinks people carrying guns should be shot on sight is so, erm, intolerant (what an understatement), that I wont even start an argument about it.

This is a car forum, sorry I mentioned self protection with handguns for people who need one because they cant defend themselves otherwise. I'm truly saddened to hear that your life is at risk because you drive a scooby!

I learnt how to shoot in the Army, but still wouldn't fancy shooting at a moving target from a car window whilst trying to evade some ****wit hell bent on stealing my car.

Me down a shooting range. .22 pistol .357 (or .38 can't remember) Magnum and .45 auto Hit target quite well, but wouldn't like to aim under pressure, would end up missing or killing probably (not necessarily what I was aiming at).....

Guns are fun in controlled conditions, but scary when you realise what they can and do actually do.....

It is illegal in the UK to cary a handgun Cladius. You should be shot if you decide to cary one, there are no grey areas when it comes to this IMHO. I dont see how that is intolerent, there is nothing to be tolerated in that, it's a black and white situation.

A bit off topic but Wurzel's point is interesting. I got to shoot various weapons with the army a few years back (well quite a few actually) and none of us (out of a dozen people) was able to hit a man size target at 25 yds with a 9mm pistol first go with a 15 round clip. And that was standing still! And no, we weren't all crap shots!

Nice to hear that John has been teaching young people to shoot me accurately and safely! lol.

I own several firearms including 12 gauge shotguns and I have missed a wild boar once (a small one, moving really fast), but usually I dont miss but then again, it was kind of dark and I missed it in the sense that I didnt get it right behind the shoulder. A neighbour found a small wild boar with a mark on his chest the next morning and shot it. But this forum is surely not the best place for these hunting stories...

So you are saying that if I walk on the street in the UK and you see that I carry a gun in my holster, you will shoot me? Or that the Police will (with what guns?) or SHOULD? Are you insane?? You cant just shoot someone who carries agun! In that case, you could shoot people who drive a car, driving a car you could use to drive over someone at high speed is just as dangerous as carrying a gun in your holster.

Glad you are ok and got away from the scum. I used to live down Gregory Blvd when I was a student but never had any trouble really. Won't be driving round there anytime soon. Glad you and your neons got home in one piece. They should be strung up.

sorry but i dont want to hijack phils post. If you dont understand my point by now, you never will. Of course i wont shoot anyone, i dont cary a handgun so how could i? The Police are well within their rights to do so though. Being as highly trained as they are, they wont just shoot someone, they will try everything not to, but as soon as you decide to carry a handgun you are a legitimate target.

Handgun use in the UK is on a big spiral upwards, posting your crap isnt helping matters. No one outside armed response units has any right to carry a firearm. If you decide to break this particular law you should be prepared to face the concequences, which could be your death.

I've fired a Beretta in a firing range under very close supervision, years ago.

I still remember how far my arms moved with the recoil and the fact I hit the paper the target was printed on was an achievement.

Five rounds fired and only one clipped the actual target.

Firearms in the real world are not like the firearms in the movies!

I agree with John and everyone else with his point of view on this subject.

Waving around firearms real, fake, blank firing or air gun replica will and should result in the full weight and force of the Police descending on the person.

There was a programme about the ARVs in Manchester, a member of the public spotted a gun in a car. They watched and waited for him to get back in the car and then moved in.

Four machine guns were aimed at the bloke who was very careful to follow the Police's instructions to the letter.

When they searched the car they found gun, a child's cap gun. The Police apologised and explained why they had to react they way they did.

Give him his due the driver managed to talk and say he understood and agreed with their actions, if that had been me I would have been happy to keep control of my bladder!

When in danger we go to "Flight or Fight" for the situation Phil found himself in, flight was definiately the right option.

Get the heck out of there and don't stop until you are sure you are safe!

Phil - Again I am glad you got away from the scum that chased after you without injury or harm. You have my full respect for the way you handled yourself and controlled the situation.
