Mark,

Beastie's brother does this in Perth http://www.scottishaeroclub.org.uk/m...ght/perth.html

You can do fixed-wing stuff in Cumbernauld, but don't know if they do ML flying.

Mark

A few years back when I was working for NatWest, just after we got taken over by RBoS I spent a lot of time in Edinburgh. The boss up there was learning to M/L somewhere local. He had some cracking photographs of the local scenery Get used to the fog though

Fog's the least of Marks worries; how about the rain, wind and 1hr of sunshine (if yer lucky)

One of the lads in my work is going through his PPL at Cumbernauld and he hasn't had much flight-time in the past few months.

Perth's a good bet for lots of interesting stuff, like Hot-Air Ballooning, Skydiving, Microlights, White-Water Rafting, etc..

Fog appears to be far worse in London City, if you ask me - judging by the number of times in the last 6 weeks I've sat at Edinburgh International in blue sky/sun, whilst my flight's been delayed due to fog in London.

Aberfeldy's the place to go white-water rafting though, isn't it?

Lesson are between £60 and £75 per hour and you need 15 dual and 10 solo, as a minimum requirement. Most people will have more than this before passing.

Including your hours, written exams and General Flying Test, you should allow about £2000.

Microlights can be bought for as low as £3000 (the school one I am flying at the moment is worth about £4500 and flies well). New, top of the range aircraft are almost £20,000, with big 4 stroke engines and full instrumentation. The new machines are also pretty fast and will cruise at 80mph+. There is a new Pegasus Quik which will cruise at 100mph, but these are £23k.

Scotland would be a fantastic place to fly

I've been having serious discussions with Pete too

I am VERY tempted to have a go, but just know I would get hooked and it would take up a lot of my time and dent my bank balance......

Dave,
With a fair wind a friend and I will be flying down to Pete's airfield in January, you ought to pop along and come for a fly! You know you want to.

Pete,
Long range forecast is looking reasonably good, light winds. Today and tomorrow better though (bugger). The avmet service says it's 20mph winds here in Worcs and it certainly isn't, not a breath!

I might just do that....as we know, yes I really want to

Was just musing the fact that you would then want to buy your own ML, so then you have maintenance, insurance, storage etc to worry about - just like owning another bloody Impreza

Costs not as bad as you think! 100 hour service (and thats a lot of flying) costs about £200-£300 and I'm insured 3rd party (£500K) for £120 (I think full comp costs around £6-700). Fuel use is no worse than an Impreza, hangerage is about £70 a month but that depends on if you know someone with a strip etc As Pete mentioned a reasonable one can be had for 4K but a 10K budget will buy you an excellent machine. It costs me less to run my 320D (I know you don't want one of them!) AND the microlight than it did my UK300, and thats including commuting an extra 1000 miles a month.

I spoke to Ian and its foggy at your field today, so you can get on with some work knowing that you couldn't fly today anyway. Mind you, its perfect vis here

I'm seeing Ian tomorrow morning. Fancy being late for work?

I'm expecting a mail from Caroline asking us to take Dave up and scare the crap out of him, so he never goes near one again

A couple of 4g wingovers and a 30ft run along the sea wall should do it

It's foggy at the field? I can't believe that, here in Worcester it's a lovely clear day as well. Bloody Sywell..
I leave work at about 2 on Fridays so I have no chance of a late start, gutted...
Oh well hopefully it will hold out for me on Saturday/Sunday let me know how it goes if you make it up, I'll look forward to the Jan delivery trip!

I am sooooo looking forward to doing that sea wall

LOL - it can't be scarier than three laps in your passenger seat round Bedford

Besides, i've island hopped in Trislanders, flown inverted in a Chipmunk trainer, been in Sedberg open cockpit gliders and some other scary stuff so I could probably cope, and Carolyn knows that

Her initial reaction when I said I wanted to give microlighting a try was "what's the point in that"

Debs had similar thoughts, now is going to learn to fly in the new year! You could get matching microlights and registrations!

I was kinda hoping DTS would take it up. The more dosh he spends, the more I get to spend on my next car purchase

It also gets him out of the house every weekend so I can start an illicit affair waheyyy !!!!!!

If I remember correctly I do the same as you (contract PM?) whether or not thats a proper job is up for debate, but yes it will definitely be a weekend jolly, probably toward the end of the month. I think Pete is at my local field today, 3 days in one week, really that isn't fair.

Edited to say: My mistake I think he's coming up Sunday, sorry Pete!
