exactly the same happened to my dad, ended up as my dads fault as they said that he had pulled out onto a main road.. have heard of similar events that have had the same result!! didnt matter that the other driver was on the wrong side of the road or that they were breaking the speed limit....

Ok, bit of an update, i went back to where the accident happened and the road, which is narrower than i first thought, has chevrons (spelling)which as i sort of remember means no overtaking. No cars were moved before the cops arrived so if they do their road traffic report showing that her car was even remotley in the middle of the road it stands to reason that she must have been overtaking something over hazard lines. Spoke to the insurance company about this (Tescos) and they have been really helpful and are now trying to make it 100%her fault as opposed to before when they were plumming for a 50/50.
I also think that the fact there were no skid marks etc shows that no attempt of braking occured so she must have not been paying due care and attention, but apparently this wont hold in court.
Definately gonna carry a camera now it would just make my life so much easier now.

Attu, the police guy who was in charge was a really nice guy and just quietly stated that it looks like her fault but that dosent really mean anything.
As for the damage done to my car everyone couldn't believe it when looking at her car, must be those guys at Subaru building them well. Got a quote on the damage and looking at about £600 so it could be worse.

If the chevrons are surrounded by a broken line then you are allowed to enter that area. If the line is solid then you are not. The chevrons themselves are irrelevant.

Good luck.

Chevrons are the >>>>> or <<<<< seen at sharp bends. Also appear on the motorways as an aid to keeping your distance.

AFAIK the only zig zag lines are those used at zebra/pelican crossings. You haven't mentioned one of these Was there a crossing nearby? This could be vital to your case as overtaking on the approach to a crossing would be viewed very dimly indeed.

Edited to add that yellow zigzag lines are used at schools. Any more info?
