Dan I admit scoobys are v good at what they do but and they are a lovely car but. er cosworth not fast be real. also you can take a cosworth much further than any scooby

182 mph in a 3 door cos
180 in a saff
187 i think in an escort cos

like to see a scoob do that never gonna happen and as for 0-60 or 0-100 the MAD cossies are a match for a scooby not bad for an old ford that hasnt been produced since 1996.......

the Focus Rs im sure will take up the challenge and the modding zetecs isnt hard but traction could be fun

Not comparing like with like. And 310 from a standard sti on 97 ron is not very likely

Its natural competition is either the new (if they bring it to uk) Integra R of the MY01 Scooby. I have no doubt the Focus will, on a dry road or track, be faster than the Subaru in standard form.

Yup, its still a Ford, though, and nothing can get away from that

IMHO it is a good deal better looking than the MY01 Scoob, again in standard form. Pete C's MY01 is looking pretty good though.

If the focus is £23,000, that equals an MY01 plus some worthwhile mods, though, and that may swing it in the Scoobs favour.

Personally, I'm sticking with my 'teg for a while. Almost as quick as my MY99 Scoob through the gears, even more fun and much, much cheaper to run .

I went to the preview day at Gaydon on Sunday 29th June where they showed the first fully kitted out RS with engine ( we didn't hear it running unfortunately). The guy presenting it was Andy Barrett - Fords Medium Car Brand Manager and fully responsible for the RS. The expected launch is now late November/ December 2001. Delayed due to the extensive testing being done on the engine and suspension set up etc.

The official quoted power was 220PS ( around 218bhp??) with I think 230 lb ft torque.

He was asked about the price but said he could not announce it as firstly it had not yet been decided, and secondly, to do so without going through official channels was he said "Price Signalling" which if he released the price, could land Ford with a fine of something like 10% of Gross World Turnover - so any Ford dealer who has been quoted £23k does not yet know for sure what the price will be.

As for tuning, the car has a T25 turbo, which I understand is the biggest draw back to squeezing more power out, but I'll bet it won't be long before it has been replaced for a better turbo and we will see some good power hikes -even if it just goes up to 250-280 bhp, I'm sure that'll be enough in the Focus in FWD format.

I have some pictures of the Focus and it looks a whole lot better than the one that Ford had on display at Motorshow with the windows blacked out - not sure what your link is to post up pictures, but I'll stick them up if any one wants.

Per

PS I drive a MKII RS2000, running twin dellortos, T3 turbo, I/C, low comp pistons, 5 speed box, LSD etc etc - 208 BHP, 261 LB FT torque and on a 30 degree C day at Santa Pod ran a 14.6 qtr mile at 97 mph - not bad for a 22 year old car

Ok guys, I work for the agency who produced the RS brochure, and at that time, it was last October I think, things were not finalised from FMC on spec. Because of motorshows etc, the brochure is meant as a teaser or preview and by no means a full on brochure. And no I don't know exact figures, but around 225bhp is what I've heard. By all accounts it's a stonking FWD car.
