This is difficult. Some people can afford Scoobies with little worries and so compared to other sufferings this is not a big deal.
For those that have made huge sacrifices to get the car of their dreams and get some tosser with no respect for others causing damage must be infuriating.

The trouble is there is NO comeback you can make, the other car can deny it and get away scot free. The police could not care less and you are left with hefty insurance excess and increased premiums bacause of others.

I have now counted 7 'dinks' on my otherwise pristine Terzo. I do not frequent carparks full of housewives and company car owners and in fact take the advice of this forum on parking.

There has been many a time when I have 'in retrospect' wanted to wipe the smarmy smile of the face of the disrespectful s*** who has damaged my car.

I have gone through the THOUGHT process on kicking panels, doors, damaging mirrors and also using a screw driver.

All I can add is that this post has provided me with the joy of seeing the OUTRAGE and SUPPORT of the actions I would have possibly taken.

All I can say is if you had done this is:

(1) Seek retribution alone (definatley no spouse/GF/BF).
(2) Make sure no-ones around.
(3) Do not wait for the owner as their shed is their shed.

oh,

(4) Well done.

Well done!! .... people like the owner of said car obviously have no respect for other peolpes property, you`d have most probably got a mouthful of abuse if you`d have waited around.

Good on ya!!

A scratch would cause no inconvenience, you should have done the tyres (all 4). When I had a banger I couldn't give one for any dents or scratches.

Like you, I am meticulous as to where and how I park my car(MY02 STi Prodrive). I NEVER park next to anything with a baby seat (by the way I have 2 in mine) or any reference to kids and always next to an expensive, what i consider to be a loved motor.

There again, if you neighbour moves away, it's in the lap of the gods who parks next to you in your absence

This is me writing this, so I am ready for the abuse.

Being a single mother for 3 years now, I would like to say that perhaps it's a good idea for everywhere to have proper parent and child parking spaces. And would it not be a good idea for people to get fined for parking in these spaces if they do not have a child on board? I get so mad when I see people parking in them just because they're near the entrance of Sainsburys or whatever.

Same with disabled spaces.......

Some people are so lazy. We need the extra space to get a child in a out. We need to make sure our children's seatbelts are done up properly so we don't have another death on our hands. Surely this is slightly more important than a dink? I would protect my child with my life, so i assume would most parents.

I again am sorry that this happened. When you work all year to pay for your car and house, I can see that damage to it could cause a reaction. I have to pay for the dink in my car that someone thought nothing of doing, but I see that as a fact of life. We can be careful, park wherever we think it is safe, but these things happen.

BTW, being a single mother with a child seat in the back of my car does not mean I am a drain on society and no, I don't have a crappy car either!

I'm sure Ru$$Rip was pretty sure who had dinked his car otherwise he wouldn't have taken revenge, not sure about his response though. I may have wanted to do what he did but I'd be too scared of getting caught

I wonder if those people who say "it's only a car" would be just as calm if I'd kicked a football accidentaly at their car? I could say "oh dear, very sorry" and just walk away leaving them to get a new bonnet, is that OK? Where's the line drawn?

Sure there's bigger Sh*t going down in the world to make all this nonsense, but I don't see everyone selling their cars to help out the starving in Africa.

Ive got a kiddy, a car seat, a scoob, 6 dints on one side and 4 on the other.....

Im not a single parent. Im not ringing dent master because the day after it would have a ding from the BP carpark where the wife leaves it all day.

Oh, and Ive got lots of stone chips and a mark where a piece of wood flew up from the other carriageway and crashed into the offside passenger door...but I didnt handbrake turn it, ram the offender off the road and poke a screwdriver in his eye...

Blame the bad design of car parks in this country, for trying to cram as many people in as possible and therefore make huge amounts of money... Its not QUITE as stupid as the garages in new houses where you cant get your car in, and if you can you cant open either of the doors and have to climb out of the sunroof or even the boot...Do you shoot the builder?

Red face

OK I am back (Clears throat)....

Firstly for all the do-gooders aout there I am a normal, rational and honest sort of guy. Looking back I behaved like Mr Douglas in 'falling down'. I could have waited for the owners to come back but it was 80 degrees and I had a tired baby in the back wanting feeding. IMHO it was the other party committing the criminal damage , they knew exactly what they were doing , the fact that it was a baby seat implies that it was not the kid who could have accidentally swung the door open. This was peformed by a jealous adult who probably also noticed the superior baby seat in my superior car fueling their jealous, selfish and wreckless action.

YES I can PROVE it was them, the car park ticket on the car was timed at 10 mins later than my own. The nature of the car park is long-stay and besides the trajectory of the door mtached perfectly. NO it was not there before the journey commenced because my car has not been parked anywhere other than my own drive before this.

Incidentally I DID check the car park for cameras/witnesses and descretely carved my way along the car with what actually looked like just my finger.

YES I have heard of dentmaster and I have a call in to them right now - so whats 50 quid in the scheme of things , surely if you can affford a brand new Scoob then you can afford the 50 quid to get the dink fixed. Maybe but that it is not the point is it!

I did contemplate double parking but in my experience that normally gets peoples backs up more and would more likely fuel a delberate act of vandalism.

The design of the car is mostly to blame, sure we dont want ugly plastic strips ruining the cars lines however other manufacturers including Audi and BMW have successfully achieved this.

So 2 days on am I sorry or repentful???............

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

I got mine dinked the other day by a back seat passenger of a merc. She didn't realise I was sat in the drivers seat untill she tried to walk off. I went ballistic and made her old man buy some T-cut from the garage to clean it up, so I could check for dents.
The problem is I looked down the side from all angles and could not see a dent, that evening in the dark one showed up.

How gutted am i now that I didn't get her name and address!

I once had this problem with my S3. The funny thing was i parked it on the top floor of a multi storey car park and the whole floor was completely empty. left the car there for one hour and came back to find a landrover parked right by the side of me (i pulled in to parking space he had reversed, driver door to driver door!). When i say right by the side i mean i had to use the passenger door to get in. Checked my door and low and behold a dent. right i thought, continued to flick open lovely Audi key (pen knife action) key'd the whole side of the landrover. ***** to em is what i say this guy must have been a complete ******** no two ways about it. Chose such a stupid way to park on an empty floor. War i what i give these people now!

<posh army voice> TAKE NO PRISONERS I SAY! tally hooooo....

You can't beat 'em...there's no point getting angry or trying....as long as there's been cars there's been this problem. I have an old van (for odd jobs)and always take this to the supermarket now.

Its very satisfying parking next to the people carriers and watching them look uneasy for a change! I don't ever damage their property though I hasten to add, but now have total peace of mind.

Cheers,

Rich

Or while they were getting out the wind caught the door hense your dent? Personally I would have left a note if I'd dented someone elses door - but it might have been an accient!

I agree with Mr Felstead - I have a heap of a Corsa, if someone keyed that I would be as mad as hell, our scoob also has two dings, one from a car park whilst the previous owners owned it and one whilst we own it, am p*ssed off? Yes, I want my car to look perfect, however, I realise the risk I take by driving it on the road and parking in public car parks after all - it's a car, I didn't buy it to sit and look pretty on my drive (although it does ).

Whatever happened you have no right to damage other peoples property - would you like it if you accidently hit (before you say it, accidents happen to everyone) someone's door and came back to find your scoob keyed? IMHO I think it's a childish response, keep a camera in the car and take photo's, speak to the person who did it, they might be helpful, if not, that's life...

Call me a do-gooder if you like! Personally, I think I'm just a respectful person

Have you noticed the irony of ranting about people not respecting our property and then you keying someone elses?

Subaru actually do an accessory for you car, its called "side protection strips" and costs around 55-60 quid
If your so worried about your car getting dints in carparks then i suggest that you go out and purchase said items and have them fitted (have them sprayed in your cars colours aswell if you want ) and thus here by leviate any more fustration.....
Mine have been on my MY00 for 2 years now and im dent free (just doesnt stop those stonechips though )

Just to play devils advocate, astra may not have done it and was actually the second car to park there and not the one that had done the damage...

having no proof of who has done the damage and just venting your anger on the car that happens to be parked next to you is possibly not the best lesson to teach, cos if the astra ever parks up next to another scoob and decides to vent there anger like you did you may have just added to the problem.....

Having a car park ticket 10 mins later is no proof, i've given other parkers my car park ticket when i've parked if theres time left on there, who's to say this wasnt the case here, or How do you know someone didnt pop there for 5 mins to go get a paper and left 2 mins later after dinking your door, the astra driver parked?

I've had a go at people who've got out of there car banging mine while i was still sitting in it or was walking back to it and you'd be amazed at the attitude you get back, can't ever recall a 'sorry' was always given a mouth full of abuse, just makes you wonder how some people are brought up to have so little respect.

On the flip side, i've parked the wifes beemer estate in places to find the white lines so close together that getting the door open, unbuckling our 7 month old and lifting him out (especially if its the car seat that also clips into pram/buggy) is an impossibility. The problem is space is a commodity.
Went into brighton one night, parked on seafront and had some laguna so close to the boot when we came back i couldnt actually open it, so had to get kids in, get car at an angle i could get some room to open the boot without loosing the front of the car

They could be dinking peoples doors for years without ever realising.

Perhaps a little keying would make em think?

I've been sat in the car when some fat b!tch parked right next to me. She throws the door open without giving a ****. BANG!!!

I jumped out and started screaming abuse at her. She just ignored me and walked off. I just got back in the car and parked somewhere else. My car is covered in supermarket scars. It p!sses me off, but so far I've never retaliated.

Just happy to hear that someone has for a change.

My GOD!!!!!

How angry/spiteful/vindictive has the British motorist become?!?!?!?!

I TOTALLY understand the feelings when your prized possession gets dinged, but talk about OTT responses...

Yes, I own a Scoob. It's an OLD one (MY95) - NOT that it matters - it's my prized toy. I love it. How dare anybody say that just because the car hasn't been bought from the showroom that it makes a difference!!!!

Your response makes you as bad as each other. Sorry.

Dan

PS - Put yourself in the other driver's situation. Would you stop to hang around if you had dinged somebody's car?

Whilst not condoning keying (screwing?) the Astra, I do sympathise with your actions. However, did it occur to you that it wasn't their car? Someone could have borrowed it etc. Doesn't condone what they did, but you should have waited for them to get back to at least give them a chance to put things right.

If you really want to just pi$$ the other driver off, always have a ripe banana in the car with you. If you get a dink, smear the banana (peel it first!) over the windscreen. I guarantee they will be seriously pi$$ed off when they get back and you won't have committed criminal damage.

As for all the people who park across 2 spaces many car parks now clamp and/or fine people who do this - and rightly so. If everyone did this you would halve the capacity of the car park.

They could leave a note!!!

I had a woman bang her door into my car when I was sitting in it, I looked at her to see what she did or was going to say. She'd looked embarresed when she realised I was there but still went to walk off

I then asked her if she was going to say sorry, but I got a mouth full of abuse and she just walked off. I then proceeded to review my options for revenge and raised my anger level to DEFCON 3. I decided not to vandalise her car (for fear of getting caught to be honest)but write her a letter and stick it to her windscreen "I've witnessed you damaging my car and I'll be taking this matter to my insurers, who no doubt will be taking to yours shortly. People like you shood take the bus in future".

I didn't take it any further but I hope this made her worried and think the next time.

But I really just wanted to let her tyres down

Nice 1 Floyd,

I'd previously thought about getting some rude & witty pre-printed notes myself for poeple who park ridiculously close.

The key thing though would be to print them on the very sticky thin paper that is a nightmare to remove and sticking a couple over the offenders windows. Much les drastic than damaging the car but still causing annoyance and getting your point across.

Probably get through a couple a week

I must admit that like most here
Car is pride and joy and it has been dinked in a Tescos Car park and I have tried parking in various locations, right at the end of the car park etc
I now take up two car parking places and get two tickets for the privelige of parking there.
It a lot less hassle for me no more dinked doors and if any ones objects well thats fine by me but legally I doing nothing wronG (AFAIK). I have paid the price for taking up two car parking bays

On the subject of revenge.

Once upon a time, many years ago I parked my adored 100cc learner bike in the keyholder only bike park at my uni hall of residence. Some idiot knocked a bike over which knocked my bike over which landed on someones pride and joy and put a small dent in the tank. I stood the bikes up and went and reported the matter to the porters and tried to find out whose bike it was that had got dented. Turned out that his reg number was not registered as a key holder so I could not get in touch, some time later I discovered the owner was visiting someone with a key. I went back to my bike after about 30 minutes the dented bike was gone and I had a f***ing huge dent in my tank.

Was I pissed off - yes (ranting, raving red mist pissed off)
Did I get any recompense - no
Have I ever felt like scratching/denting another vehicle - yes
Have I ever done it - no

If you catch them at it (denting) then ask politely for payment or at least an apology. You may not get either but at least you will have the satisfaction of moral superiority.

The Gospel according to Saint TolTec.

OK so I really want them to try and punch me so I can cause them some serious pain but we all have our fantasies.

Or - get the door protectors and stick the coarsest grade emery paper you can find to them.

Wow long post but cathartic.

So what if you had a kiddy in your car and he put a small dink into a nicer car than yours ( which there are loads ) and you didnt notice and then the owner comes back takes a screw and scratches your car and kicks the door in.

**** happens but you are as bad as the people you complain about

Some interesting replies folks. Even in my blind fury I was mindful of the fact that there was a baby seat in the other persons car so did not want to damage the vehicle to an extent which could possibly cause an accident, i.e smearing things on windscreen or puncturing tyres.

Incidentally someone has advised me to get it teated 'as soon as' due to the naure of the soft metal. Apparently it is easier to treat the fresher it is?
