Does the fact that you cannot get from manchester to the south coast on a full tank not bother you Davy?

Davyboy how many standard and unmodded evos have you seen . They are worse than scoob owners for exhaustts, wheels, chips, induction kits, brakes etc etc

It bothers me more than you can imagine

Just think, I will have to stop an extra time when I go to the Nurburgring again. Life is soooo cruel...........

My main factor for buying the scoob over an Evo4 was that the scoob was a more practical car and i didnt have to sit and look for super unleaded everywhere i go (well i do anyway ) but it suited my needs more than the Evo did and i preferred the scoobs ride and dealer network over the lack of servicing facilities for the evo (except warrender where i would have purchased the 4 from)
The running costs were not a problem (i borrowed all 18k for my scoob and paid it off over 2 years ) and i know for a fact that if something goes wrong with my scoob ive a dealer network to fall back on (before the days when Mitsubishi decided that they would then service jap import cars).
I'd looked hard into buying these cars, the 4 had better standard equiptment over the scoob but i also didnt know how the 4 had been treated before hand, ie had it been run on unleaded instead of super unleaded fuel etc....
Im still quite amazed that i do get the sort of economy out of my scoob that i get due to the fact that on nearly every run out i do ill open her up and long journeys normally mean sitting there at 85-90mph on the motorways and some good pace down country lanes (possably due to the fact that i let the car warm up for 5miles before opening her up a little )

You keep out of it. Thing is for little money, you can get 400bhp out of an Evo and more....

it suited my needs more than the Evo did
There you go.

Not wanting this to get turned into another Scoob/Evo debate, we all know they are both cars.

True, but you do get a better car to begin with. I am not saying sccobs are crap, I own one for gods sake. But the money I have spent on it pi$$es me off, I could and should have bought an Sti or Evo to begin with.

Now I have owned an Impreza I want an Evo.

Surely they are as practical as each other? Both have 4 doors and a big boot for the shopping.

That is what practicality is right?

had an Evo driver come up my **** on the M25 this morning. So desperate to get past me he nearly shunted a VX220 (yuch!) off the road. Muppet!

I'm not sugesting this is common of any or all Evo drivers, but this one can't help the image of any performance car drivers for everyone else on the road at the time. Especially Mr. vx220!!

I do prefer the P1 or 22B though, over the EvoVi and Vii Can't afford the vehicle or the insurance for that level of car just yet. But hey, I'm happy with my Turbo2000
One day...

All peformance car drivers obviously care more about cars than your average fiesta driver so either is great and worthy of respect.

It's like the Arsenal/Tottenham rivalry. What is the point. Under only slightly different circumstances you would have opted for the other side.

It seems most people prefer to wage war against someone who feels virtually the same as you. Take religion(but do not start me on that).

Have you drove all 3? All are totally different IMHO.

Supporting Scoobs or Evos is like supporting Man.Utd or Man.City - the rivalry is enevitable.

Fine line between love and hate etc

If you weren't so similar to us we wouldn't really give a stuff I suppose.

Davy,
at the time i was looking at Evo4's it was before Mitsubishi even considered to offer serivcing to this type of car, ie 1999, it was also the time that the Evo6 was released so having looked at the pro's and con's of ownership i decided to go for the Subaru for security reasons, apart from that it was also more practical for me for servicing, parts, costs etc than trying to source from japan direct for most parts, you have to remember that 99-00 was a bad time for imports as this is when the market fell flat on its ***
The 4 was a great car, it was the breakthrough in the Evo's life, it had the first AYC, uprated engine etc but it was also overlooked by many until the 5 came out and outshone it
If you have ever looked in a 4 you may well understand one of the reasons i never purchased it because if you think that the Subaru is bland inside, you may have to get use to the reddish colour of the 4 cos its definately not the best and its very dark and dreary

The Subie versus Evo situation is extremely serious down here, owners of each not giving the others any respect....Mainly due to the fact the the price of Evo,1,2,3 are very affordable for young guys with sttitudes, as are the early WRX's.
Very big illegal street racing scene where they go at it.

Several Evo's clocking 10 second quarter miles down here and none of the subies can match them. Thats where it stems from, the "Im faster than you" And sadly at the moment the Evo's are the fastest down under....

Scooby/EVO

My first venture into Scooby ownership was with a MY97 Sport, I was looking for something sporty but at the time but could not afford my ideal motor the Turbo, I loved the sound, watched them with envy for years in Rallying and dearly wanted one. After a year and a bit of Sport ownership I realised I needed more power, don’t get the wrong the Sport is a great car but I hungered for more power and a turbo.

The pennies were saved and I now had the funds to go looking for something faster. However this was when the dilema set in, what would I get? Should I go for a standard UK turbo or maybee jump up a step up and go for a WRX or STI?

My options at the time (in 2000) were

* MY98/99 Turbo with low miles
Loads of dealers, so servicing would not be a problem,
Not bad on insurance,
Rumours of piston slap !?!,
Seemed like the logical step up from the Sport.

* STI IV/V Jap Import
More power, loved the looks etc
Servicing, my local Subaru dealers aint interested
Difficulty getting parts,
Rumours of melting pistons, warranty problems

* Mitsi EVO – Jump ship to the dark side, interesting!
Seemed expensive
Local Mitsi garage happy to service, say they do lots
in the area
No reports of engine problems,
Exclusive,
Higher insurance though.

Then one day my mate turned up in an EVO IV, took me for a spin and it just blew me away, I knew at that point that if I got a standard UK turbo (circa 220 BHP) it was not going to be enough to satisfy me, it would end up being a stepping stone to the next level up.

I now set my sights on something with 280-300 BHP to satisfy my hunger for power. After some indepth investigation both on SIDC, Scoobynet, MLR etc I decided to set my sights on an EVO IV or V if I could stretch the budget. A few monthes later I had a mint low mileage yellow V on my drive and have never looked back since!!

I still love the Scoobies though, thats why I attend SIDC trackdays/RR days to spectate. For me the rivalry is just a bit of fun, too many people however take it too seriously

I love both of them

Scoobs just suit me more - a bit more of a stealth car...well, kinda

Always wave to Evo Drivers and havn't failed to get a wave back yet - after all, they're both manic japanesse 4wd machines

Spanpody your EVO does look pretty cool I must admit, will have to try and spawn a run in it off you next time I see it

Sometime when I was a lad I, for whatever reason (I suspect the P1), came to love scoobies more than EVO's. I still think the EVO is a great car and may one day seek to own one but I don't think I'd every love it as much as the scooby.

Davyboy - factor in MPG worse than a Scoob, a diet of SUL only, 4500 mile service intervals and you see that there is more to practical than just the number of doors and a boot.

Personally that's whay I have the Scoob - it does as my every day car and it's also a blast to drive. The more sensible service intervals now mean I don't take thew car into the garage every 5 mins!

I love Evo's - saw some stunning ones at Oulton Park yesterday - Evo5, Evo6, Tommi Mak, couple of 7s and an FQ-300 - I'd have one tomorrow if I could honestly afford to run one as a second car. Until that time...

Chris
