John

Do you mean, that you think your car can produce the same level of cornering force as the exige?

If so, you're kidding yourself..

Or do you mean that you would probably be cornering as fast as David?

Cheers

How could I ever have doubted you!!

Your tyres *are* superb, but I'm not so sure they would be *much* better than the exige's tyres if at all.

But..

car/driver combination is a completely different thing.. and the john/westie combination is pretty formidable (sp?).

Cheers

All very Interesting...

SDB, I meant Stef not the Exige regarding brakes BTW....

An Exige should destroy all of us on the track......especially if they got 340bhp...

What have you done to get this power anyway David.

Cool

Simon,

EVO did the car v bike thing and datalogged the corner speeds of all cars present, I believe the R500 Caterham was way faster than aanything on all corners - the closest Lotus was the 340R which was quicker than the Elise.

Now I know Johns Westie isn't an R500, but it's not that disimilar is it?..........

I'm gonna come up and do you all in the Lupo anyway

Question

quote:
Originally posted by johnfelstead:

Isn't that the posh name for the Horse Club? (Coat on, engine running)

Again, I can vouch for the smoothness of DB's driving. Nowhere near any ragged edge - it seemed effortless breezing past people, such as Blowdog, around donington.

Keep it up, I'm enjoying this thread

My knowledge is as spot on as always then

Still reckon I'll have a good chance in the Lupo - it's a 1.4s - not the weedy one

Simon, you disapoint me. One thing you should know by now is i dont kid myself.

My tyres are much better than the yoko's that are standard on the exige. They produce higher lateral grip and are more progresive so are easier to exploit fully. They are not as good as a slick of the correct compound and construction however.

You of all people should know what i mean by that.

It's all subjective anyway, as you know most people cant get more than 90% of the traction circle maximum from their tyres, others can exploit a higher level and keep the tyre closer to its max available within the g-g circle.

It doesnt matter what downforce you have, the basic rules apply that you gain your speed from how close to the limit you can keep the tyre through its transitions when braking/cornering/accelerating. If you have downforce those limits are higher, the question is, are you skillfull enough to make use of that extra and can you react quickly enough and with enough sensitivity to exploit whats available.

that should explain what i meant. LOL

How do you know this ? I'm not doubting your statement, but I didn't realise you were au fait with the super sticky A039's that were made specifically for the Exige and therefore in a position to comment.

quote:
the question is, are you skillfull enough to make use of that extra and can you react quickly enough and with enough sensitivity to exploit whats available[/quote]

Or.. the question is.. can the car's capabilities be so great that you don't need to be that skillful (relatively) to achieve the same/better lap times than a lesser car that's on the ragged edge ? (and then get even faster as skills develop ..)

I don't deny that pretty much any fool can go round the track faster in my car than me

Average Person is 80kg.
Fuel is dunno, say 10 gallons (my tank was full). (estimated 40kg)

So full Loaded i have 384 BHP per tonne.

You have 450hp dingy??

1050kg+80kg+40kg = 1170kg (1.17 tonnes) 384hp per tonne = 450 for a 1170kg car

Question

Lotus - haha - Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious.

i had an elise for a while that was the worst car i'd ever owned - sure it was great at handling, as long as it was on a dry track, point it along a vaguely damp Derbyshire road and it nearly shat itself. Build quality dreadful, dealers live in the dark ages, brand name worth zilch - hence the business being up for sale recently AGAIN!

Good luck with the Exige - you'll need it.

It's a track day car, and as such I consider it a high maintenance vehicle regardless.

I've had the car on the wet handling circuit at MIRA with Don Palmer for a good 4 hours and had loved every minute.. I just had to drive it like a mid-engine, rear wheel car and not a front engined 4WD.. in fact Don said it was "a well sorted car".

The car's given me zero trouble, unlike my Scooby.

Who cares about brand name when it's ferociously capable on the track ?

Dingy when are you gonna learn.
Your car has a quick UNRELIABLE engine under its bonnet and thats it.
It handles like a sack of **** and you have no way of harnessing all that power.
Oh and it doesnt go round corners.
Come to think of it its only really safe on a rolling road where i`m sure the bull5hit power figures are fantastic.
Keep convincing yourself and your RS mates that it truly is a SUPERCAR.
OH and I think the Skyline will be showing its face again on track soon with ME driving with facked tyres soon and better brakes......I1ll show you then what a propper SUPERCAR go`s like............round bends aswell.

Arron Bird you bore me.... same as yer car.

When you pass me on track i will change my mine, unless getting whooped like last time.

Mine is a MK II which cost 1/6 th of yours, yet its faster...

Brakes in 2 weeks so bends won't be an issue.

God your are a TW@T.

Erm.. the thing is Aaron.. I know you (vaguely) and I know you're a bit of a kidder.. but other people necessarily don't.

Now if I'd not known you, I'd have thought your posting to be really rude (the very thing you're accusing everyone else of)

I guess if we were all nice to other people, they'd be nice back

(I'll got and get my flower power outfit on)

PEACE !

David you do indeed know me but only a bit
The reason this stuff gets my goat up is that all this my car is better than yours is all dependent on the driver.
Lets face it there arnt many cars Mk2 Escorts included that will keep up with your hairdressers car now are there especially round a firkin track but he actually believes he has got it licked???

Arron,

I think the thing is, you are so far up your own backside you can't comprehend anyone elses information, because all you can see is your own ****. (and probably the tip of W9's tongue :eek

I wait in anticipation of your "well the Skyline is a race car for the road, blah blah blah blah"

With regards to the type of posting on here, now that you've found your dummy again I'm sure the quality and intelligence of posts will go thru the roof........

Unless you carry on talking to Steve W9 of course.....

Just like to point out that that is all in jest and I couldn't be 4rsed to use smileys
