Hey, I've never come across anyone called Brendan Hughes before. What's so usual about that?

I think I might have the oldest sign on in scoobynet, its 36 years old!!
yes thats right Guiness records lovers,my mother called me david ben aston, she actually invented my sign on all those years ago!! brilliant if you ask me!
And Im sure if she would have known then she might have called me Cyril Uman Nicholas Thomas instead.

couldn't get my own name - or variants of it because of the number of doppelgangers on this BBS.
so picked out an item of food at random from the cupboard - hey presto! it was a tin of skipjack tuna.
i'd have preferred salad cream but there you go.

To some "Jerome" would be unusual. It also happens to be my first name. All the BBS's I've joined, I've been the only Jerome who's used that as a username. Lack of imagination and a desire to make people more aware of the name Jerome caused me to choose it. Some people are completely baffled that I go though life being called Jerome without resorting to Jerry, Jez, Geronimo or whatever.

chiark,
banksie!!!!!!!! especially his alter ego Menzies!
top, top author, one of my faves. Into cars as well, even better.
As you may or may not know, there is a person on this bbs going by the name of Zero Gravitas, which might mean something to someone

Comes from my past. Ex-Rugby player from Wales - when I moved to London my rugby mates all seemed to move in and crash out on my floor for months b4 finally buggering off and finding somwhere of their own to live. I secretly didn't mind, but expressed horror to my other half " God, I wish they would hurry up and leave..." just b4 nipping down the pub with them and getting completely sideways.
Anyway, once they all moved out we missed our little sessions so we started a 5 aside soccer team as an excuse for socialising. Now most rugby forwards, as we all were, are not pretty enough to be football players ( mind you there is no such thing as a 50:50 ball either) so we had an appropriate name - The Newport Fat Boys- I was captain and hence became known to the others as Fat Boy. To this day all their mobiles etc have that name in their memories which is embarrassing when they leave their mobiles in taxis when pissed, and I get a phone call -" Ere, is that ... Fat Boy? Your bleeding mate left a crate of lager and a half digested etc....."

I had my "work" head on when signing up - if I'd realised it would be my handle forever I would have made more effort...maybe I'll change, and then throw away that coveted "Registered: Feb 2000" and impressive (to me) 300+ posts. Mmmm, maybe not
Chiark - I've read all IMBs SF, and did not spot the relevance! I'm soooo embarrased! Now Ship Names make great usernames, maybe if I ever do change I'll use one of them instead the other names I use - "SteveM" (because it's already gone on here) or "GiveItFish" (because that means nothing to you lot!).

Mines pretty obvious,it all started when I got heavily into the rallying in my teens,I ended up with almost the full Subaru teamwear wardrobe,Jacket,Hat,Brolly,Bag etc......It got to a stage where my (Jealous)m8s just called me '555 Boy'..........He,he,he Happy times.
Never did I think (or they) that a couple of years on I'd have one myself

I was watching this thread develop and wondered when i'd get asked, might of known it would be chairk.
Well here goes, alot of you won't know what i'm on about but hey that's not unusual!
Pick one of these that makes most sense:
I used to be a explorer similer to the great Laura croft (but male) And in the far east i explored some crypt's and the local's named me Cryptwalk.
The Cryptwalk was a hiphop dance that doc Dre and snoop dog did on the up in smoke tour video.
I liked the dance, i liked the name! simple as that.

Wanted to use my nick name "Maddog" but was worried that people might ring work or home asking to speak with maddog & wife/friends would think I was working for MI5/CIA.
Decided to use real name hence boring Mark A
