A mate of mine has a GTI-R done up to about 300bhp. Great little motors and with the few suspension mods he has done to it, it handles much better and is more composed in corners than my Type R. However on a straight my Type R still pulls ahead.
If you can put up with the quirky styling which is not to my taste personally they are great little cars with lots of potential for not much money.

Hi all
theres a lot of scoobs round my way and we all tend to have the odd
race my pulsar is modded to about 290 bhp so some of the races
are close but the best fun is against your wrx type r's

I was going to get either a Sunny GTIR or the 3-door. In the end I plumped for the 3-door as its more fun to drive (I'm a bit of a sideways freak
)
Still like the way it looks though. If I had one I'd get a front mount I/C and take off the bonnet vents to make it a proper Q car.![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif)

I have a GTiR it about 320/340BHP.
I have played with scooby and only one has come close.
It was a 3door type R from hemel. We were comming back from southend.
I think there was a meet there, we went for it all the way round the M25 and left the other Scooby's behind. Good fun,i think the guy's on register.

Appologies for the negative post: But....I hate them!! I personally need power and look in equal measure and the GTI-R can only supply one of these. I can understand why people buy them because of the power per pound thing but as we've been trying to drill into co55ie for the last month that isn't everything

Yeah but the GTI-R is better looking than a Ford Sierra (only just though) plus a GTI-R actually goes round corners without having to spend £2000 on suspension and last but not least it's not a Ford. Still don't like the tea tray spoiler on the GTI-R though
and would agree with Saxo Boy that for me a car has to look at least half way decent.

Raced a GTIr at north weald (in standard 96 WRX), but he lost because he couldnt change gear properly!! - would have beaten me by a second over standing quarter.. He was well miffed afterwards... lol
Just remember.....
Its the WINNING that counts, not the taking part!

I'm not to ar5ed about the whole exclusivity thing as long as what I drive isn't silly common. I was out in the car for a total of about 3.5 hours today and I saw one classic and 2 01 wrx's and a UK 300 which I don't regard as common compaired to the amount of focuses, mondeos, vectras, astras, bmw's, etc that I saw. Didn't see any GTI-R's admittedly.

Mad4it-who are you then as there aren't many 11 sec cars(soon will be)?Is it Danny?
All the talk about gearboxes is true as anyone(including me)who drags there car will find out.I'm having a custom gearset made and hopefully a stronger clutch than my HKS one which slips at only 1.2bar which should improve my times(12.7)by maybe 0.5-1 second.I like scoobys too and as someone said before it was the cost at the time that put me off as I was buying cash(£7k 3 years ago)and imprezas were around £3k more).
They do make good power for relatively low boost-I got 333bhp at only 1.2bar with only mods to engine a FMIC,Mongoose,Blitz filter and a bleed valve.0-60 is low 4secs and 0-100 around 11secs.
BTW-what do Type R's do in each gear and at what revs?

Skiddus - Doh, my secret indentity is revealed.
I have sold the GTiR, to a careful lad in Newcastle. I dont think he will be racing, as he as already done another gearbox.
I do not know the gearing yet on the R, as although we have owned the car for 3 months, we have only done a few miles, as the car has been completely rebuilt.
I do know that the R will hit 60 in second, as it was featured in Banzai magazine last year. (Black R racing against Jason Gants GTiR over the 0 - 60).
Our Type R is pdq, but is restricted by the injectors. I am picking the car up tomorrow, which is setup to run 1.5 bar, with the injectors flat out, and a second setting of 1.3 bar.
We have spent a lot of money on the engine, so keep fingers crossed.
The R feels quicker at 1.3 bar than the GTiR did, and has a lot easier gearing, but will wait until I get the bigger injectors before I start racing it, and seeing what times I can run.

Mad4it-yes I saw that feature.Nice car.Done any TV work lately?![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
I raced you at York last year-5 times.First time I beat you because you slowed down before the end
.Then the other 4 times I got good launches while you took it steady and shot past me as I was hitting 60mph.I've knocked a second offf my time since then but still wouldn't have been good enough
.
Who's going to have low 10sec cars?I know a few people are having stroker kits.

Does anyone know about the special edition GTiR? It was called the Dakar of kilimangiro or summat and it had steel wheels and poverty interior. Presumably so it could be easily ripped out and replace with rally items. I've only ever heard about these and have nevr seen one in a picture or the metal.
anyone shead any light? or is it a myth?
astraboy.

Tis true I know a couple of people that have one.
Stoopid steel wheels, crap interior no power windows air con mirrors sunroof. Crap 1983 datsun cherry seats no sound proofing. They came in ivory. Called Dakar editions.
Also supposed to have a close ratio box but the dude that has one doesn’t reckon they have them.

I thought the Dakar was meant to be a stripped lightweight vesion of the GTI-R and a few other different bits and pieces so it could be easily converted for racing kind of like the Scooby RA. I thought cos of the weight loss they were meant to be slightly quicker too but I may be wrong. One of my mates has one. I will ask him.

They do have the box, but not the back diff.
But the rest is right. The 0-60 is slower as they wont hit 60 in 2 gear. But still faster than a scooby.
And are you out tonight for a rip!
