Trackday car options??
#32
Bought a Caterham 50/50 with a mate earlier this year.
Got a 215bhp 2.0 Vauxhall with 45 webers, full cage, straight cut box, 2 sets of wheels, harnesses, all set up for track days etc for 13k.
Have done 5 track days down and have got through 2 sets of rear yokohamas (60 odd quid each) and half a set of brake pads.
Is quite ridiculously fast - come and ask for a ride at Bedford on the 18th or Bentwaters on the 26th (silver paint and blue cage padding) and prepare to grin

Like many of you guys I started taking my Scooby on the track and have had a great laugh, but now feel I want to take it a stage further without risking (and spending lots on) my every day car !
So, I have been looking at Tigers - they are far cheaper than Caterhams and less also than Westies. They have the options of car engines and bike engines and are very quick. I am test driving tomorrow so will post after I see how they compare.

Cool Thread.
Started doing track-days about 3 years ago in my E34 M5, it used to cost me about a half a set of tyres on a good track-day, (£500) plus an entire set of pads (£££), plus disk wear(£££££), and thats b4 you take it back into the 'stealer'ship, with their sudden intakes of breath, and over-zelous standards for a 3/4 yr old car... every drop of leaked oil, every rusty widget,......
So, what did I do?
sold it, bought a farty-pants Volkswagen 'bora' (They wern't far wrong with the name), and a Caterham super 7 superlight, wth the 1600cc 138 bhp engine.
Laugh my **** off every track day, for a fraction of the cost.
I'd do it again anytime, but maybe go for the caterham blackbird instead, which would have cost another 9k ish.
My (Blue/Carbon) 7 had 29k on the clock, from 1998, cost 14k - no major probs as yet, loads of fun. I've spoken to some 'proffesional' drivers who have all said the Caterham is the best way to go, for a starter car. Its levels of grip never cease to amaze me.
I'll be at Oulton Park on Sat 4th, if you want a taste...

Most expensive cars can be bought fully built:
Tiger B6 (lightweight with motorbike engine) - £12,995 + vat
Tiger R6 (lightweight with Zetec car engine) - £17,495 + vat
These and others are available in various kits too.

Or a little Super 6 for £10k +vat.
The factory build option is basically full kit plus £3k(+vat).
They have a couple of cheap (<£9k) second hand ones listed on the site too....
